    I think the sharpie method and pastel gradient method are both equally good. The sharpie method could be used to simulate real life hair growth if- for an example, you dyed your hair and you decided to let it grow rather than touch up. The more harsh line of colors makes it look unintentional which may be a good thing for certain character designs. With the more "seamless" gradient, you could tell it would be made on purpose.
    That's just my thought on it. :)

    The only problem with me is, we don't have any flat irons at my house, because everyone in my house except for me, and my little sister, have really shorthair. And me and my sister don't really straighten our hair, are usually like to keep mine either in braids, or in a short bob style. My sister keeps hers in long hairstyles.

    • @BlackDragoonRose
      @BlackDragoonRose Před 7 lety +4

      I also have super short hair but I was able to find a Revlon hair straightener at a local supermarket for $17. My husband gave me a look but I just said it's for my dolls silly!

    • @BlackDragoonRose
      @BlackDragoonRose Před 7 lety +3

      Oh yes, I was doing that at first too, it works pretty well! I decided to get the straightener though because I did get a slightly silkier weft and I don't have a permanent set-up for my clothing iron and so it's faster to pull out the straightener.

    A third method would be breaking the marker open (or a less destructive but likely more expensive alternative is using copic marker refills) and mixing the ink with isopropyl alcohol (if you're using sharpies you can stick whatever it is that has the ink in it in the alcohol and let it sit for a while) and either spray it on the wefts or dip the ends in the mixture.

    This is a great tutorial! I'd been wondering about other ways of doing ombre style hair, aside from my usual way of using multicolored yarns cut where the two colors start/end. So I'm really glad to see that it can be done with chalk...and without having it wash out! :D
    It hasn't left any stains or anything on your dolls even after doing the wash test, has it??
    Also! Those kitty ears are adorable~ ^-^ Have you tried making other shapes like stars yet? Or making add-on hair parts? o.o I'd like to make a wig with star shaped buns that's done with similar steps that your ponytails wig has...but I'm unsure if I should start with a star cutout out of cardstock paper and wrap the hair around it, or if I should just try to freehand the little buns. Any suggestions?
