The Lexus ISF (2007-2014) was arguably the conservative Japanese brand's first foray into serious performance cars and what an entrance it made.
It offered immense value for money, superb build quality and more importantly, a genuine alternative to the german
mainstays.
But with some nearing a decade old, what gone wrong? Are they still any good? Should you buy one? Check out the full video and let us know what you think in the comments below!

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.
So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.
We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

History says that there is no competition for Lexus when it comes to fit and finish and reliability.
Yeah the Germans aside from porsche need to really step it up
@@aaronrodriguez1410 The Germans used to make bulletproof cars until they realized they could make more money by overcomplicating everything and charging an arm and a leg to fix sensors, actuators and pumps.
@@Trussme96 That had become ANY car maker now not just the Germans. lol
@@glennnichols4220 True. That’s pretty much how it is now. Even with Toyota’s. German car manufacturers started doing it before everyone else though.
@@jessies1509 That I didn't realize. Long gone are the days of the early 90's Japanese unbreakable vehicles. Now they all are junk.
When you want a c63 or an m3 but want it to work you buy an isf 😂
C63 is for drags and highway pulls, M3 is track and overall balance drive feel and ISF is all round perfect daily driver which was born from the idea of both German cars.
Honestly! I own it for that reason and I wanted c63 or m3 e92 lol I’m glad with my choice
@@brask310 track? Have you ever used an e92 m3 on the track with the oem brakes? 😂
You can supercharge these reliably too
I’d rather buy a C63 AMG that breaks down monthly than a reliable ISF. Why? A ton funner! And I mean a ton!!
When watching these "reviewer" type channels, I always look at the person and their personality. Anyone can read off facts and offer their two cents. What I find more important is how said info is delivered. Love your personality. Laid back, yet draws excitement. Funny, relaxed yet professional. Solid work, will be sticking around for sure 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Well Clinton, way to make a bloke that talks about cars feel all warm and fuzzy in the feels! I genuinely cannot thank you enough for your kind words.
It's funny, doing this stuff in front of a camera and launching this channel comes with a pretty hefty amount of "I really hope I'm doing an ok job and hope my personality resonates with people" and reading comments like yours goes an incredibly long way.
Again mate, thank you so so much.
Well said 💯
Great review. Had my 2008 ISF for more than 2 years now. Did 2 track days and ~30' 000km. It has been super reliable and reasonably cheap to run, just the regular maintenance. I was surprised that on highway the fuel economy is not that bad 9 l/100km at around 110km/h. Of course in the city it is more around 20 l/km and during the track day cool 53l /100km :) You were spot on the point that people would be cross shopping this with E90 M3 and C63, that's what I did. I went for ISF because it is actually much rarer car than the others. Before I bought mine I had seen ISF only once in flesh. + it is a sleeper, only car geeks will now what it is, majority will think that that is just an IS250.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting Janis, all excellent points.
C est pour ca que je n ai q une 250 ,cela dit bonne voiture qui a 426600 km sansctrop d embetement si bonne huile ,bougies et vidange bva et pont 50000 km,,,
5:31 OMG that lexus door close sound is my favourite. No body does it like lexus, so satisfying to hear.
I've owned my isf for 5 years and the gearbox is quick enough in manual sport mode for a bit of fun.
Really like the whole basis of this channel reviewing prior model cars. I don't think there are many channels that do likewise.
Oh cheers Anthony, really appreciate the kind words.
This review was the final review I’ve watched and I’m now a owner of a 2010 ISF
That's so great!
broooo im looking for one right now
Only a Toyota v8 can put that type of a smile on a man's face, wish I could own one
I've had my ISF for 18 months now. Am still absolutely in love with it. With a Hayward and Scott exhaust the noise is just incredible. The sound alone is addicting and makes me feel like I never want to get rid of it. A Truly amazing car that, now its wrapped in gloss plum purple.. Gets attention everywhere it goes 🙈
Massive congrats Ashley and thanks for watching and commenting.
do you have an ig
Ahh i miss my 2011 IS-F but had to sell it because of how small the back seat is and I couldnt comfortably fit my daughter inside with her carseat. Supremely reliable, a soundtrack to die for, it will certainly be a future classic. I bought mine from QLD and had Your mechanic Jim do the blue slip on it.
The laggyness below 4,000rpm used to annoy me, but above that it ripped and sounded great. I opened up the exhaust and had it tuned and power went from 249kw atw to 265kw but to get more than that you need headers which are big $$ and will give you another 15-20kw. The only real issue these have are coolant leaks in the valley plate due to the original sealant failing. This is pretty common now that these cars are getting 10+ years old.
The late 2010+ models are the most desirable, with a proper LSD, updated headlights and dash cluster, as well as different shocks to give a slightly smoother ride.
Some dyno & exhaust vids on my channel if interested.
2011-13 has the LFA style gauge cluster 👍
Is it worth the price people are selling it for now? I'm in canada and people are selling them for about 30-40 thousand Canadian
My 3 year old son would kill me if I got rid of mine. Fortunately I have a 4runner when the whole family needs to roll together. And yeah I'm so glad I was able to get a 2012 for $23k before prices got out of hand.
same here mate. I have 5 year and a 3 and half year old. They will get mad if they see I drove my wife's car to pick them up lol. They mimic the ISF sound in the backseat.Already teaching them to change oil and they love it.@@jth858
They've held their value a bit too well, so their used prices are too close to an RC350. Guess the high mileage says a lot about their true value though. They may not beat the comparable M3 or M4 of the time, but if they'll give double the miles... I'm into it.
idk man i blow m3s out the water fbo with tune
@@lordhelmetbro That's in a staight line, right? The M3 clocked a time of 8 minutes 5 seconds around the Nurburgring whereas the Lexus ISF accomplished it in 8 minutes 15 seconds. That's a 13 second difference. That's HUGE. Straight line the ISF should outperform the M3 since its a few HP and Torque more than the M3. The chassis balance of the M3 is leaps and bounds above the ISF.
planning to buy this one this year. own a benz and x5 and bought already had several trips to a shop. and al.ost every repair cost me over 3,000$. enough for those luxuries. with lexus u can have it all. luxury, power and most of all reliability
Good luck finding one. And if you do, its 25k to 30k depending on milage and well over 40k if it's a 2012 and up. Hoping when the new is500 comes out prices start to drop
But at that point I’d rather have the new is500 after the previous owner ate the depreciation the first 2-3 years. I don’t see a well maintained ISF being less than 20k. They might’ve already bottomed out in market price.
They are definitely going up in value
I paid £12.5k for mine a year ago with 150k on the clock. It’s still in excellent shape with FSH and It still feels tight…I’m keeping it forever…
Don’t hold your breath lol
I own one in SA, well abused but now taking it easy with over 200000kms. Things that go wrong are the valley plate coolant leak that is expensive. Other than that, great car! A xpipe dual system will have stock c63 331kw and the 354kw read your tail lights in SA. Great video, please get that track, we need to see you "taking the dog for a walk"...through the paces :)
Thanks so much for watching and commenting mate. We're determined to get that track, it'll happen! - AK
great video! Love to see the IS F get some love even after all these years!
It's such an awesome car, we loved every second with it.
I just wish the mechanic had at least glanced over the actual problems the car has. Like The Valley plate leak, sticky dash, bad water pump on the first two years and the possible radiator cracks that can develop quite fast.
@@greebuh still its more reliabel than the M3 + C63
@@mez6256 yup, that's a huge reason why I own an isf.
@@greebuh I also thought he might of mentioned the header pipe crack.
I found you guys about a day ago through your GC8 review. I've been binging your vids ever since lol
LOVE the downloadable breakdowns of what to look for when buying these cars. Unreal that no one has done that before. Awesome channel, proud to be here before you guys hit a million subs. 👍
Mate, that’s an incredibly nice comment to read, thank you!
Glad you’re digging the vids, it’s great to have you along for the ride
4:18 "I'm forced to do an onlyfans style leg spread" haha
I bought one earlier this month, wasn't planning to but I liked the sound (very reminiscent of the E39 M5) and the 8spd gearbox. Also very sleepy looking, the right size and it's new enough it's got pdc, navigation, Keyless and Bluetooth (phone calls only). Now mine is a 08 so no diff but I don't care, its 99% spotless, 81000km and Pearl white. Love it!
The point of reference by excellence for absolutely all types of vehicles that I have tried to buy and every time the videos have all the pieces of information I'm looking for. Keep up the good work, and let's get these guys to 100k before 2023 for their fantastic work. Hats off to ya'll 🧡
Thanks so much mate!
Dayum truly surprised at the number of subs are on this channel. would have guessed it would have had at least 100k. such a detailed and high-quality video. This channel gonna go big soon if they keep doing these types of videos.
Oh mate thanks so so much man! We're only new at this so hopefully those subscribers keep building. Thanks again man, made our day.
Im looking at getting one of these. This review has been very helpful thanks.
Great channel mate 👍 decent honest review of the ISF. I own a beautiful 2012 with the updated red interior, drl, suspension and LSD. It is for sure a future classic, I can’t see me ever selling it - love the sound, the quality, the styling. There’ll be fancier electric sports sedans in the future, so I’d recommend picking up a peak Japanese NA V8 while you still can and just enjoy the hell out of it.
Oh mate thanks so so much. Thank you for enjoying it and I'm bloody jealous you on one!
I just picked up a 2012 a few weeks ago and still get that same reaction at 9:17 when it open it up! Car is worth every penny.

Nice review and car! Very interesting how the North American IS-F in 2008 had a few different things from other markets.
As for IS-F issues...there are some. The "Valley Plate" leak is semi-common and around a $1700 USD fix.
For IS issues, affecting the IS350 like I have, there is inside tire wear due to non-adjustable camber when lowering and also melting door panels and dash in the older models, but that can all be fixed!
HOW do you fix the door panesl??? I have low milage 08 IS350 and Im afraid to put money into it becuase the door panels are ok now but the dash is stickier than double sided tape above the steering wheel. New door panels are $1300 a peice.... Dash is only $400 but 8 hours labor install... If you got some insight let me know lol
@@tylerlorenzo1759 Lexus has a 10 year recall warranty going on. I just got a brand new dashboard & 4 new door panels on my 2012 IS F
@@XBrandonLeeX765 is the warranty still going??? I heard they aren’t and I want my panels fixed on my F!
@@levilangley8744 The 10 year warranty is based on your vehicle built date. The easiest way to find out, is to call corporate. Give them your vin number & they’ll let you know.

I just love them, I sold my IS350 withed I didn't but now I am over it I am importing a ISF from Japan hope a 2010/12 in black like the 350.

absolute gold video mate! always a good watch :) also the diff in the 2011+ ISF models is a lot less restrictive and likes going sideways and having a bit of fun, as that was a massive consumer base complaint
Always loved these! Great review mate
Thank you!
I will come back to this video on December 2023 when I'm in my ISF
The Best first car in Australia for me😅. I am migrating to Australia and watched all your Vids to find my first car. This is the best one, even IS250 2010 is great in my opinion. Love the size, sporty ride and reliability.
Thank you mate for reviewing. Sometimes I just played your vids and put the phone a way for ads to support your channel. You are actually helping here and deserve our support ❤.

@@ReDriven Hi mate!
What car do you recommend with these features:
under $20k
automatic transmission
auto wipers (hate to change the speed manually😂)
In Iran, I had 2008 2.0L Mazda3 which had auto wipers, sunroof and leather seats and I loved it beyond words. Unfortunately in Australia, 1st gen mazda3 doesn’t have these features.
I am not a fan of the 2nd and 3rd gen (Although the last one is fantastic but beyond my affordability right now. I want to buy the car in cash and have lots of other priorities since I just migrated, therefore, can’t spend more than $20k for the car).
I am keen of Lexus IS250 and also have some secret affection for auto Subaru Impreza 2017 since it has a great amount of safety features, but pretty sure you do not recommend it.
What would you recommend me?
This is a great idea for a channel!
I’m on my 2nd “IS” and can’t wait to get a new IS500!! The “lag” in the transmission is good to help preserve the longevity of the drive/tran. Great review!!
You're technically getting the new isF haha just that its named is500 and of course 5.0 v8. Nice.
@@jcpnlz No, the IS500 is not an F product. It does share the same engine, but the rest of the car is not the same.
@NormalMonkey surely you can add the rest of the attachments like suspension, brakes, and fF interior that makes the isF.
@@jcpnlz You would have to start with a new car. IS500 is a regular IS with a large engine and parts added. ISF is a designed and built as a track car from the beginning.
@@jcpnlz Interior wise it does show it's age, but this is simple and fonctional.
The sound system inside is pure magic, the reliability is top notch, engine is great, chassis is great, brake are godly, lateral grip is way more than you think, you can take the corner faster than you tought. but it does have some drawback.
Valley plate (Once in a lifetime) *Very pricey
Bushing (Once or twice in a lifetime) *Cheap
Stock Headers, they always go bad (Pricey but you swap a real race header's instead)
Interior room is small for the size of the ISF.
Exterior wise, if not modded, it looks like a clean normal small luxury car, but nothing crazy.
It's just if you come up close that you notice the big front vents, the bump on the hood and and the big brembo's with slotted rotors.
Having just watched this has made me reach for the keys of my GSF and I'm about to take it for a good blast! 😂
Love the isf, just subscribed!
Great review! I pretty much agree with you on everything. I had an 08, and they got better with every consecutive year. Especially with the 2011+. I do have to say, there are two things that are problematic if you Google them: 1) Valley plate leak. This is a long job and it affects pretty much every UR engine even in the Toyotas. 2) The stock exhaust manifolds crack and make a bad exhaust noise.
About the car not feeling “as wild” as you like: as mentioned, every year they changed programming, the power steering ECU, and suspension (springs F and R, dampers, and rear toe geometry). I think you’d really enjoy a 2010+ with the LSD differential, especially with FBO and 400rwhp. Turn traction off and I’m sure you’d feel on the edge of danger quite a bit while putting the power down well with the LSD.
Yes it's worth it. It's a sleeper for one. People think it's just an IS, but don't know they made a one with V8. I raised many eyebrows in surprise, pulling off with that deep exhaust note. Power and reliability, not many car makers offer that, besides Honda.
And yes, smoking is disgusting
Great review m8
Watched it a lot time ago but just back here to say... Well done! I hope there is a GS F review soon. My gf said this car is too old for her liking.
Would love to see a GSF review. Also another idea.. top 5 Japanese V8’s! It top 5 Japanese performance sedans.
I have a low mileage 2010 ISF and the majority of my driving is highway. I was surprised at how good the fuel economy is in this car if you drive at normal highway speeds.
Love this car 😍, would highly recommend it!! The build quality is superb!!
What mpg?
This car keeps looking better and better. It's aging really well 😎
I remember in early 08 i went to a lexus demo event. They didn’t lets us test drive it just sit inside on a dyno and just experience the gear changes.
Inwent back and bought it as soon it was available. Kept it for 4 some years 40k and 2 kids later this became hard as a daily. Most fun i ever had with a car. 0 issues
Fast forward 2020 bought a new gsf. Same reason as above these cars are a masterpiece i have seen some as high with 200k miles on them the germans cant compare.
I would buy one for sure!
Yes!
Got my 2011 with 88,931 on the clock in 2017 and she's at 198k today. Reliable, powerful, and comfortable.

You don’t have an ISF, you have an is 250 or is 350 f sport. Different car entirely.
Yeah...had to clear that up
Have a 2011 and a 2012 ISF, the newer years have very good changes, Atleast half the problems in this video were solved in the later models. But at the same time the 2008-2010 ISFs had SUCH good engineering Lexus didn’t have to do much.

Thoughts on the IS350 F Sport from the same series as a slightly less crazy 233kw alternative for less that half the price? Thanks
Fantastic car for sure, I could be down for a good one. One question though, what’s a sheet sheet?
Hahahahaha it's like a cheat sheet but pronounced correctly!
Would love to know what you think of the Honda Accord V6 6-speed Manual. I have seen some videos in the states showing them outracing V8/V6 mustangs, Infiniti G37’s, Hyundai Genesis coupe V6’s, and generally being a hoot
Awesome idea. I'll try to hunt one down.
Crazy how much they are still worth. Great car
they are actually pretty expensive - 140k Km for ca 30k € :O meanwhile Lexus IS 220d costs 4 - 8 k €
Yup, I love it. It is a shame Lexus never made what we call in the UK an "Estate"
version like the BMW Touring, I reckon it would have sold very well!
Great review, you missed the Valley Plate issue, which seems to occur with just about all ISF's (just a matter of time) and slightly less common (cracked headers). The Valley Plate leak is result of improper gasket material being used in original engine assembly which doesn't interact well with "pink/Super Long Life Toyota anti-freeze...The "slow" engine/throttle response is not an issue with IS 350, which responds much quicker...But it's not an ISF, and has V-6, with over 100 less hp...I think only 86 ISF's were sold in USA in 2014.
Cheers Dennis and apologies on missing out on that. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
@@ReDriven The valley plate gasket isn't so much an issue but more a cost of ownership, it's not unique to the ISF but to all 2UR-GSE engines. The ISF, RCF, GSF, LC500 and the upcoming IS500 all need it changing with age. Also the throttle response is designed to feel like a turbo, the ISF was the first car the Supra team made after being transferred to Lexus and they wanted to make the throttle feel like a stock MK4.
I have a 2012 IS350 X and throttle response is pretty much instant, still I would love an ISF or even a 2013 2is with Bluetooth audio LOL...
Just fell in love again
I love the IS F, I really want one, however... I also really like my L10 GS450h so... Maybe a late model year 2010-2014 would be a good idea but they are so outrageously rare to come up on the market and still like 10k€ more expensive than the GS.
And the GS is bloody brilliant! - AK
Wheels are on the wrong side
They are marked on the inside of the rims.
Correct fitment helps to pump air out through the rim when rotating forward.
I like the styling of this car alot. Im glad they are not bubbly looking.
I bought a later model RC F and granted the 7 year gap between this and my car is large. I (assume) it's the same gearbox and get about 7.3L on the freeway if i'm being a good driver and 13L around the street having a bit of fun ?
Sweet ride!
Valley plate issue is the only main service issue it has, interior wise sticky dash and door cards. Suspension wise upgrade your LCA Bushings and your good!
This!!!
Oh man. I’m not even looking for another car but your personality keeps me watching, and laughing.
Ah Joseph thanks so much mate. You're bloody amazing for my ego! - AK
Love the air max 90 flex.. xx
Cheers bro!
could you guys please make a review on the 2006 to 2012 Is250s??
I've been interested in getting one by selling my Corolla, but I wanna be sure I'm not making a dumb purchase.
Totally missed the Valley Plate Issue and the exhaust tips falling off 😅
The only thing I would add, is the valley plate leaking which is pretty common.
I dont really like carbon trim parts on any car, preferring black, body colour, or something else... but then for some reason do quite like that odd light carbon fiber center panel.. and Id love an ISF. I have a 20 year old IS300 SC wagon and with the addition of a wireless android/carplay head unit its great. Wish theyd dont an ISF wagon!
I dont care what anyone says, bouncing off the limiter in one of these is intoxicating.Perfection.
The Newer Bumper and Grill bolts straight on, makes it appear 10 Years Younger.
I wish I could have an ISF! I’m happy with me 2is IS350 :)
I have a 2012 IS-F and the v8 growl at 3800 rpm never gets old. It's a good reliable car for street use and track. The maintenance is a breeze. It's a great car. The 2010+ years added a mechanical LSD. The 2011 introduced the led day time headlights, center tach gauges, and updated suspension. The 2012 offered red interior, the wider wheels and more suspension refinements.
Lucky guy 👍🏼
yes i have an ISF 2010 and absolutely love it. Its my weekend driver, picked it up with only 50K km on the clock and 14 months later now has 54K km lol. Can be a great investment to have
I will sub and drop a like just for those rear seat cup holders star wars impersonation 😂
I thought only my 05 camry v6 had a slow gear box.. atleast its rock solid tho!
Yep, buying one. Superb engine dynamics that will last. Will supercharge in the future.
Christ, the car looks amazing, even in 2004. Has a timeless design, Lexus always nails it ❤.
Could you please do a video on the 2007 or 2008 subaru liberty gt sti ?
When I worked at Toyota my boss bought one in 2010 pearl white. He threw me the keys and let me take it home for the weekend. I was totally addicted to the induction noise it made when over 4000rpm. I did hundreds of days in it all over the place including through the reefton spur and the Melbourne CBD. It still averaged 14L per 100km despite driving it like it was stolen. Awesome car. Wish I could afford one.
For me the ISF from years 2008 through 2014 Is worth it, Not only for it's reliability, or it being a Toyota brand mainly because it was the first Performance sedan Lexus conceived to compete against the BMW 5 series. Although the M5 is the highest and most fastest bimmer with the twin turbos V8 or the later models V10 motor. The Lexus ISF can only meet it in a race.
For those with deeper pockets and plenty $$$ They can Mod their ISF to have over 500BHP With aftermarket supercharger or Turbos. This will alter the ISF with additional dashboard guages or gutting out it's interior for weight reduction.
I own a 2012 ISF that has 2 mods air intake, and PPE headers with aftermarket exhaust system. Enough to sound mean and feel/hear the NA V8. I enjoy my car's comfort and looks. Every now and then or most of the time when I go for a drive it never fails some haters (jealous) people would want to race, even in heavy traffic 🤦♂️ which Guam has a lot of. Or on the opposite side of the roadway they like to rev up and make me hear their cars turbo blow off valve like really!!!.
I've had my ISF since year 2016 only issue I had was the valley plate leak. Other than that the car runs and performs as it always did since I had it.
Compare to the newer dated IS500 F-Sport Performance only thing I noticed is the na v8 wider hood and quad real exhaust system. The ISFs are the 1st Lexus sedan V8 performance cars and soon will be gems like the MK Supra and JDM sports cars. It's a matter of time....
The ISF is a competitor to the BMW M3, not the M5 😂. The GSF is competitor to the M5
Isf a future classic 😊
The funny thing is, the IS500 FSP which is the trim level just below it has an updated version of this engine and transmission, but still has the same problems as far performance, but on the opposite ends of the gear ratio. Here’s what I mean: from 0-60 mph the IS500 does this “oh.. you floored it? Uhhh.. ok gimme a minute.” But from around 40/50mph+, that thing is more like “LETS FCKING GOOOO!!”
Really good video but you should have mentioned the valley plate leak it was a really big deal in 2008-2010 models
All models 08-14 same motor on every motor and sealant
Apologies Isaac, we slipped up on that but we have added it to our cheat sheet.
I would really like to swap my IS250 for an ISF, that would be my car til the end!
It’ll happen for you soon mate. Just sold my is350 to get an F in sonic blue
Lol I love ur channel, let the monster v8 warm up for at least 5-10 minutes and drive it in sport-manual mode. The response is more instantaneous. however in regular mode it’s drives my Toyota Camry. 😂 .
Cheers so much mate. Yeah we made sure it was warm and it was in Sport mode the entire video. I should have mentioned that, apologies. - AK
Sorry I’m late, I’m looking for a 2011 isf and found one in my price range (about 23k USD) and it seems like a good deal but it has 179k miles on it.. I heard Lexus makes really reliable cars but I need a professional opinion on if it will be worth it as a DD or not. Thanks in advance :))
Brave mate..I wouldn't touch anything over 60k miles tbh.
Valley plate leak, cracked manifold, cracked radiator, caster bushes, tie rod, propeller shaft bearing. Especially higher km ones. But good news these things are a cheaper to fix when compared to euro competitors. Also note factory brake pads produce alot of dust.
