  • Mt.kenya is found in the central part of Kenya and is the largest Mountain in Kenya. It was a very significant Mountain and still is for the Agikuyu.
I happened to get a clear view of it while in Nanyuki Kenya and decided to share the video with my viewers.

Not quite, nyaga is the white substance they saw on the mountain not the ostrich. Which means nyaga is Kikuyu word for snow . Kirima Kirinyaga, means mountain with snow .

@@muthonindumia . Yep , that is what my grandfather who fought in second world war told me. Nyaga has two meaning snow or ostrich . Ostriches were not common in Kikuyuland as people think. They were found in lower and dried parts of embu , Kirinyaga kiambu and muranga counties

@@muthonindumia . Ngai mwene nyaga. God owner of the snow.

@@stephenngethe4886 Yup, nyaga equally applies to both snow and ostriches, even though ostriches are predominantly on the drier side of the mountain in Nanyuki and Laikipia. I never knew that ostriches were in Kiambu and Murang'a... I always thought they were found predominantly in savannah grasslands, whereas Kiambu and Murang'a used to be heavily forested.
The issue with we modern day Agikuyu is that we don't understand our thousand-years long history. You have to go all the way back to ancient Egypt/Kemet. The black and white ostrich feathers are a symbol of the Most High's (Ngai Murungu Mwene Nyaga's) divinity and law/judgement. This is why the ancient Egyptian goddess of truth, justice and fairness, Ma'at, is depicted with an ostrich feather on her head. This is where we Agikuyu get our word for ''correct/right'' - ''ma''. We also say, ''maitu - ma-itu'' for ''our mother (of truth), or our mother who bears truth'' as an ode to Ma'at. In the Egyptian judgement scene of Osiris (Utheri - light), the hearts of the departed are weighed against the ostrich feather of Ma'at (nyaga) and those who's hearts are found to be lighter than the feather (i.e. without sin, or having atoned for their life's sins) pass into the afterlife to join their righteous ancestors.
Mt. Kenya/KiriNyaga is what in Judeo-Christianity became Mt. Zion (our Gikuyu word thaayu - peace, hence Jerusalem, the dwelling place of Ngai just as we Mt. Kenya bantus have always known) and Sinai. PaSinai is actually the Maasai word for the mountain, and they have always known it to be holy as well. That whole KiriNyaga and Murang'a area is the historical garden of Eden (Mukurwe wa NyagaThanga).
Back when Egypt was still being ruled by we black Africans, the pharaohs-to-be would make a pilgrimage all the way from Egypt to KiriNyaga to perform a ritual that would imbue them with wisdom to enable them to rule Egypt/Kemet righteously, and this is why Kemet is the longest running civilization/kingdom in world history. Even Europeans will confirm as much.
Our Gikuyu oral history of creation states that Ngai created Gikuyu and Mumbi at the mountain and that Ngai gave Gikuyu (Mukuyu, the biblical descendants of the mighty fig tree) and his descendants (us) the surrounding area as our inheritance. Before Ngai put Gikuyu's soul into a physical body and placed him at the mountain, HE would appear to Gikuyu in the form of an ostrich, hence why the ostrich feather became the symbol of judgement /justice in Kemet and throughout Africa. So other than the snow, this is the deeper symbolism behind the double meaning of ''nyaga''.
