  • To commemorate the often-overlooked Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Pacific Canada Heritage Centre - Museum of Migration Society invited speakers from diverse backgrounds to share and engage in narratives surrounding anti-racism. Using storytelling as a medium to address the lived realities in which racial discrimination manifests itself, combined with the historical lens of the book 1923: Challenging Racisms Past and Present, this webinar aims to provide an inclusive, informative, and safe space for learning.

Despite some perceiving racism as a thing of the past, no longer applicable in today's world, the reality is that people continue to face significant obstacles due to their race, ethnicity, and cultural background. These challenges extend beyond education, healthcare, and justice sectors, impacting everyday cultural engagement and interactions. Engaging in open dialogue is crucial to fostering mutual understanding and cultivating a more inclusive society. During this panel discussion, speakers will offer critical insights drawn from historical knowledge, personal observations and experiences within Pacific Canada.
This episode of "My Journey, My Roots" is dedicated to the memory of our immediate past director, Ada Con. Ada was an active community member for many years. After her retirement serving as a librarian with the Fraser Valley Regional Library for 35 years, she returned to her family home in Vancouver Chinatown and participated and volunteered in numerous book clubs, organizations and festivals. Her interests included travel, attending theatre, films, historic and cultural events. During her tenure as a Director with PCHC-MoM, she was an all-round volunteer and served at times, as a Membership Committee and a Nominating Committee member and Board Secretary. We will miss you dearly, Ada.
