Wen I was a teenager me and my mates used to get together and go get stoned, one of our places to go was the local woods which were nicknamed the ghost woods, it had an old wrecked plane in the middle of them, story was the pilot haunts the woods, one night we lit a fire and sat round passing joints, after a while the smoke started blowing in my face, I would get up move to another spot and it would follow me, everyone started laughing cos the smoke was following me. I swear I was so paranoid I thought there was a spirit in the smoke trying to get me lol

Work with a former SOCM (combat medic) who described his deployment as “A camping trip in the desert.” Chillest guy in the world, but as you get to know him you start to realize the magnitude of the shit he’s seen
Never worked with navy seals but worked with SF guys.... US soldiers in 2006 were not allowed to drink. He seems to say it was a regular occurrence, but not sure what he's talking about. If you were caught drinking you were fucked. I was in Afghanistan in 2004... you are not allowed to drink.

Fired at by Kurds while in a Pave low, attacked by a A-10 at our FOB, attacked by an Apache, fired at by a Saudi 50 cal position while returning to front lines... if I wasn't shot at by "friendly fire" while I was in, I might not have been shot at, at all.

unreal you ever catch that video of some army dudes getting jdam dropped right on em? and I don't know whats worse, the friendly fire part or the fact that none of them got a single scratch
We got lit up in early 2003 in OIF by another unit 1km to our flank at night. M2 gunner had us just about dialed in.
Watching .50 cal tracers fly by your face with 4 rounds of FMJ in between is not so fun, especially when they just keep going and it doesn't feel like it will ever end.
I got on my ICOM and started telling our CO to get ahold of that unit and tell them to cease fire. He acted as if I shouldn't be on the net and to stop adding unnecessary traffic to our comms.
British army had more casualties from US aircraft than from enemy fire in Afghanistan, was doing demining ops with an EOD team (was an attached Engineer) and the silly cunt pilot strafed our small convoy, fucking tards.
Welsh Superiority in 2004 in Iraq an ADA Captain sat down at a chow hall table with me. I said “ADA huh Sir? When’s the last time you guys fired a shot in anger?” He looked me straight in the face and dead pan said “Shot down a British Tornado last week.”
Legend has it Shawn was in a sniper hide during the making of this video... 🤫

I wanted to serve so bad going through high school after 9/11 but unfortunately I was unable to serve due to being deaf in one ear. I love listening to all these war stories! I get to experience what I missed out on through y’all when you talk about the things that happened while you were deployed. I’m glad y’all came back home! God bless all the men and women who serve! @@ShawnRyanShow Our chain of command had us wearing eye pro at all times including to and from the showers. Kinda sucked I broke the clear lenses so I rocked my sunglasses at night. I guess it was still a better choice than those giant goggles we wore on our kevlars because I would be making those barkas fall off, then there would be a whole lot of Iraqie children that looks like me.

I was an M1A1 tanker in Habbaniah at that time, MSR Michigan. You ain't kidding about the amount of IEDs at that time. We had Sell team 7 with us, used to take them out in the tanks and drop them off, then do overwatch while they did their thing and pick them back up.

As an ex C.O.P sniper (British Army). The one part I laughed at most was when you said you were bored just sitting watching the road. People in normal lives will never understand the boredom of having to sit in a hide for 4,5,6 or more days. Just looking at the same view. And that isn't with all the rest of the comforts you have to endure while you are there. Shifting in a roll of cling film, while my mate sat next to me, was always fun. Then wrapping the shit up, and putting it in your pack. Great memories!

Dan Rozinek. while in Iraq we Army were working solely with Navy EOD. had MQNY fun missions with them. our package consisted of Army aviation. 25 ID, ODA and Navy EOD.. it was a literal blast!!!

really important for these stories to be told.. not only because they are true and therefore very valuable as lessons to us listeners, but also because the storytellers exorcise ghosts at the same time.. as a child i used to sit at the feet of soldiers and listen to stories very similar to this and their stories were always full of self deprecating humor, the litmus test of the real deal.. thanks for a great story well told.. : )

Hey my unit 9th esb had navy seals as overwatch many times in 2006. Just like you spoke about. Snipers getting tasked out to conventional units. Habinayah area 2006. I was down on the ground on the job site and overwatch above on rooftops. Thank you for you and the other men of the NSW overwatch.
