- I know it's a pretty long title. The word kamikazetokubetsukōgekitai means Kamikaze Special Attack Corps, although the official name of the unit was Tokubetsu Kōgekitai (Special Attack Unit) kamikazetokubetsukōgekitai (meaning divine wind Attack Corps) was the popular name which it was known with.
The person in the picture is Ensign Kiyoshi Ogawa, who flew his aircraft into USS Bunker Hill during a kamikaze mission on 11 May 1945

I have a distant relative who was stationed in Pearl Harbor but was fortunate enough to survive the attack. When I was a teenager, I was privileged to hear a lecture by a kamikaze pilot who miraculously survived. He spoke at length, albeit in a very thick accent, about the measures they took to brainwash him into that willingness to throw away his life. It wasn't filmed and CZcams didn't exist. Thank you for preserving this bit of wartime propaganda. It's so easy to forget that the suicide pilots weren't born to be weapons, they were just made that way.

My great grandfather worked for Japanese Administration during their occupation of Malaya as he believed Malaya would gain independence with the help of Japan. He was later to be hanged at Changi Prison, Singapore after British came back following Japanese defeat. Fortunately, under few circumstances his life was saved. All jokes aside, just for a moment, What was kinda sad was that some of these men weren't willing to Be kamikaze pilots. Some wrote letters the day before they went out. Unfortunately as badass as kamikaze pilots were, they *all* died in vain. The Empire of Japan never won the war.

In vein??? Japan still exists, these heroic men will always be remembered for their heroism and sacrifice, so how was their deaths in vein. Every Japanese admires them and they live in the hearts of Japan.
Japan saved Asia from a much worse fate, communism. A fate my own family members in Russia tried to prevent by fighting the red pigs in the Russian civil war, but they couldn't. Most of Asia is free from the red disease thanks to Japan

I don't support Imperialism but I gotta respect the soldiers dying selflessly for their country... forced or not they still chose to sacrifice their lives for their own motherland so hats off to them
In my newest book, Admiral Ikagi himself suggests using the Kamikaze special attack corps. Hideki Tojo says: "You must be joking!" Ikagi replies with one of my favorite lines that I still can't believe I came up with: "I never joke. The Land of the Rising Sun is danger! We must do something about it!"
Anyone who believes these men died in vain has little understanding of the world.
