    The "no respawn" feature sounds interesting on paper, but on the flip side, I get the impression that they've made accidents not really punitive anymore.
    In the first game, crashing into a wall would blow up your pod, and that made the races feel very brutal. In this sequel, even running straight into a wall just slows the ship down. I constantly felt like I was playing a bumper car.

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber Před měsícem +2

      Pretty sure they did that as an anti-frustration measure. EP1 Racer had SUPER complex tracks with lots of tight turns and hazards, but almost no combat aspects what so ever. Revenge added more in-depth combat features to the game, but because you had to contend with opponents actually trying to take you out and you couldn't respawn, they were likely concerned that if your pod exploded as easily on impact with a course element the game would be too unforgiving.
      Keep in mind that while crashing in EP1 Racer was a guaranteed explosion, the game would just simply respawn you with s.

    This was my first ps2 game and i always likes it more than the first game on dreamcast/N64. Mainly because you can switch to the "pro style controls" so that each analoge stick resembles one engine. If you push both sticks forward you accelerate, if you push one forward and pull the other stick back, you are able to take hard turns. Definately a nice control sheme🙂

      Bladed Angel That doesn't necessarily make the idea false. They may have just gotten lazy with young sebulba or something. It's still entirely possible that Sebulba's pod sounds different due to being newer. After all, you can still hear it chugging, but the chug is lighter and faster, almost sounding cleaner and more efficient in a sense, which is what you'd want from a newer model of an old engine template. If they were TRULY lazy, they'd copy the sound file from the first game or make all the pods sound the same.

    tight turns and corners isn't a flaw in this title, there is a reason the power slide mechanic was added which was never used within this footage presented in this review, smacking corners or touching walls do drastically reduced speed as a penalty. progression of your upgraded pod racer is more noticeable nearing the end of the tournament and having a lead is common as in the older title, notable differences is that your looking at a lead of 5-30 seconds instead of +1mins. watto shop getting the chomping block is a SHAME. reason being is probably bc the tracks have been cut in half, in turn less credits earned to upgrade your pod. upgrades can be downgraded at a reduced return to upgrade other mods but its not recommended. Maps are more static is this title and offer no dynamic environment dangers, reason being IMO whomever worked on this title was influence by Star Wars Podracer ARCADE controls, tucked away in the control settings both analog sticks can function like tank controls just like how a real pod racer would operate, which in turn watered down and eliminated the possibility of having Roll, Pitch and Yaw like controls assigned to the Right stick, which does absolutely NOTHING. Being able to knock out other podracers is a nice addition, notably heaver and bigger looking pods do considerately more amount of damage upon impact at the cost of being less mobile and more likely to smack into walls and vice versa with their smaller pod counterparts. End Game unlockable pod racers have a similar feel of speed to the older game which were not mentioned or played in this review, characters such as Sebulba Episode 1, Young Anakin , Watto or better yet Darth Maul and Vader. All in all the game's innovation was crippled by a gimmick

    I don't know if this is just me missing something, but I also found it was unclear exactly what the controls were. I *think* I found the repair button, but there wasn't really any indication if or when I was actually repairing, or how much difference it made. Like, I worked out which button accelerates, and how to turn, but that's really it. I played two tracks, which I won with seemingly way too much ease, and then I switched games. I never really got the feeling that there was much power behind the racers either.

But yeah, you're completely right about the lack of difficulty.

    I heard that they were gonna include three courses from Coruscant and a third track from both Ryloth and Sullust. It’s bummer that they were cut. I don’t hate this game personally, I respect your views and opinions on this game. I think this is a decent enough good Podracing game, especially when special characters like Darth Maul and Watto are racers in that game. I also liked that visuals and models on the pods are overhauled, but I do agree that the Episode 1 Racer feel wasn’t there. And when you listen to the files, I don’t know where you would find them, you can tell they were gonna do a lot more with this game if it had more time in development instead of rushing it to release it on a certain time.

    My vote for disappointing sequel has to go to the Force Unleashed 2. Force Unleashed was fantastic - I had it on the Wii, so it felt better than other consoles imo, because the control for attacking was actually swinging the wiimote around, and using the nunchuck to force push and such. I got FU2 on the Wii as well, but it felt awful and it was just button inputs to attack instead of motion controls, and it felt really watered down. One level is basically a corridor on Dagobah and thats it.

      I remember it! But I was a kid then... it was Abyss. I think it was Race 4-2 on selection, and the favorite pilot there was Bozzie Baranta. You had to choose the upper route and be careful to not falling to the lower route. What was actually funny about it: if you stayed on that route, the IA wouldn't take it, or would quickly fall up the corners while trying to do so. But if you weren't close enough to keep an eye on them, they'd sure as hell take it and surpass you! So, the IA kept that route in secret for me many times until I found out what was happening. Awesome times!!

    they don't want you to race. they want you to fight. so the rubber-banding is nuts. you're way ahead while boosting, and then another racer just teleports and "sticks" to you. Once you notice that speed doesn't matter, you start to wonder why you're even playing.

    @SmackyTheB3AR Před 4 měsíci +1

    This was the second game I ever got for my PS2, and even my 12-year-old self with very low standards found it disappointing. It lacked the ludicrous sense of speed that the first one had, along with the sense of danger. You could crash into something at high speed or grind a wall all the way through a turn, and just bounce off and hold repair. The races felt less like navigating a jet-powered death machine at high speed and more like playing bumper cars with your 8 year old cousin. And you HAD to play aggressively if you wanted to max the paycheck so you could get fully upgraded.
    In addition, a large number of the podracers from the previous game did NOT return, including many from the original Boonta Eve race, namely: Elan Mak, Ebe Endocott, Boles Roor, & Ark Roose. Ratts Tyrell and Neva Kee did not return, but they were technically dead, so this makes a bit more sense (but so was Wan Sandage, and he came back for this sequel...). NONE of the Episode 1 Racer pods that were not featured in the movie returned, which was disappointing (Bullseye Navior, Slide Paramita, Fud Sang, Toy Dampner, Bozzie Baranta, Cy Yunga, or Jinn Reeso).
    Graphics looked nice for the time, and some of the new pods were cool, but that was about it. Given how popular the original game still is to this day, they really could have made something great but bungled it hard.

    Felt the rogue squadon sequels were progressively more underwhelming. Rogue leader was a visual upgrade but worse from a game play standpoint. There were less missions of lower quality. There was no sense skill progression where skills are developed and tested over the course of the missions. Most missions are designed with only one ship in mind which reduces replayability and experimentation. The missions were overly dark, turret are hard to distinguish and hit, and the targeting computer which compensates for the visual problems activity counts against your gold medal rank teaching you not to use it. The x-wing is surprisingly a poor dog fighter as it's firing spread is wider than the tie fighter's silhouette. A lot of ties have annoying ai where they scatter if you shoot the wrong one in a squad or activity crash into you. Rebel strike is essentially the same game as rogue leader but with half the missions being bad 3rd person shooters, or walker/speeder bike missions. The flight sim missions you do get are very lacking and arguably weaker than the last game. The only really redeemable part of rebel strike is the re-creation of rogue leader as a multi player and the other multi player modes.

      Wouldn’t it be so sick to get a third one though?! A modern pod racer game in frostbite or UE5 is pretty damned close to the top of my “please, just once before I die” list.

    Late to the party, but Fighting Force 2 has got to be the worst sequel I've ever experienced by a country mile. They aren't even the same genre of game.

    The first was more fun when you did the RRDUAL cheat and used two N64 controllers.
    What Racer Revenge did better was to incorporate the DualShock sticks as a default scheme.

    I can't explane why but i think it also looks bad... the first game looked and felt way better somehow.

      It's that sense of speed! The first game felt so much quicker, this one feels not only slower, but clumsier too.

      @@NoMooreMercyTVYes! The speed was off!
      I also think that more "sharpness" in old games is not always better... the first game looked more realistic somehow...
      GTA SA looked better on ps2 as on pc because the washed out look felt more "real" somehow lol

    most disappointing video game sequel?
    Dragon Age 2 was such a huge downgrade in every aspect compared to the first. It was just a rushed game. The first one is a 9/10 in my book, maybe 10/10. The second is like a 4/10.
    Also, Supreme Commander 2. The first game was a grandiose RTS with an emphasis on macro-management. For the sequel, they committed to making the game more playable/accessible to those playing on console, with a controller. How? By Dumbing down everything. Subsequently, the franchise and the devs went under.

      DAO was in development for 6 years while DA2 was development for 1 so i heavily disagree that DA2 is a bad game

    My man…you can’t create a diss track on this game and be riding around as anakin. The point of the game is to unlock new vehicles, which becomes harder each time (most KO’s, best lap time, best race time). If the furthest unlock youve got is Sebulba, you’ve effectively completed the tutorial level, and have completed maybe 20% of the actual game. Consider learning the game and giving it a further chance-what you’ll find is as engaging and in some ways better that Episode 1 Racer.

      I also didn't like KH3, I had just played through most of the games, at least the ones in the collection, and it didn't click for me like some of the others. Idunno, maybe I was just burned out on the series.
