12:55 Sorin. You miss one thing. You cannot use transistor with the SAME paramaters, because now when you don't have straight/tight/flat floor (solder pads) then the heat of the new transistor will be NOT proper absorb by the board, so the transistor with the same parameters, this time will die quicker, it will be overheating all the time. That is why each time if you have burned tracks/pads - the new transistor will be lifted above the board, so you have to use more powerful one, because then it will be more colder that original one.

Hi Sorin, absolutely incredible. I don’t think its dodgy at all, after all you work without any schematics, and you know exactly where to take the voltage from and where to connect it. Why dodgy, because of a wire? What is a wire, it’s like a track after all, and although you said you will not leave it like this, I think it’s good enough?
I think like 90% of the shop will deem this board as no fix. I want to see any of those calling you dodgy, doing a better job.

It looks like that low temp solder. It’s worth buying decent lead-free solder, not only because it is less toxic, but also because it is stronger. Better than using the cheap "trick" solder stuff. 4% Ag is the good stuff. Ecoloy Stannol 713. Also, if you have to use that low temp solder, dip it in some thinned rosin/alcohol paste

@@Alex-mj7km This is not the case. Animals don’t have a choice. People in other countries don’t have a choice. They are being exploited by more powerful countries via the banking system. You have a choice, but you don’t seem to think that choices affect you. That’s not the case. Why would the universe chose to help someone who makes choices which hurt others? Even directly, choices which exploit others are not beneficial. Look at Donald Trump, his wife won’t even hold his hand. I’ve seen people who live on the streets who have a better relationship.

Sorin, FYI I put my 70w Hakko FX888D on an energy meter and the only time the meter ever read 70w was on the initial startup. Once the iron is on, it just draws what it needs to keep the tip at the set temperature. I would have thought that a more substantial tip could hold the heat better.

Great job bro.. Don't worry about haters. I would rather have a simple bypass and it works compared to throwing it away into the land fields. The board is trashed this is really the only option. Really no different then fixing something in a car that is shorted and would be a expensive repair otherwise.

tip is most likely oxidized.. when it turns really dark it's almost always game over.. need replacement tip. a nice cleaning procedure is important, after every use dip it into brass steel wool cleaner, always tin the tip and keep a small layer of solder on it to seal against oxidization. ofc also avoid really high temperatures.

yes this also works 👍 you can, in some cases, bring the tip back to life. i would just buy a new one, doesn't require that much work. but in a situation when you have to finish a job & can't wait, reviving your tip might be the only option.
