Crows remember peoples faces. So yes...shooing them or feeding them will def make them remember you. Theyre also BORN narcisists. A friend of mine owned a crow, and it would love playing tricks to the owner, clawing at him etc just for fun. Theyre smart. Never underestimate them.

The Crows are not big because they eat human food, they're huge because they're a difference species from the ones in Germany. In Germany the two species present are Carrion Crows & Hooded Crows, basically your typical Crow. In Japan the species is the Jungle/Large-billed Crow which are almost Raven-sized & construct more complex nests (Which can explain their greater intelligence).

I once Airbnb'ed in Shibuya, and my apartment was in a tall building in a quiet residential area away from the shopping area, so I had no problem sleeping at night. The only noise problem I had was with the crows in the morning. Their cries were so loud and deep, they sounded like something from a horror movie.

The crows in my country (France) are pretty chill. Like, it's easy to befriend them if you regularly give them food. They also chased and replaced the parakeets that had chased away a lot of other birds around the place where I live (near Vincennes, eastern close suburb of Paris), so the other birds came back! And when I'm on horseback with my group and we cross the path of some crows, it's funny how they keep walking while moving out of the way (like "ok ok, I'll let you pass"), or check us from a branch and it feels like they are counting us?
During an internship in the East of France (Lorraine region), I befriended the two crows who were living in the tree in front of my building.
And yeah. I really like corvids in general. :)

I really love crows and ravens! They're incredibly clever and amazing to watch! I know they cause trouble, but I still like them ^^; it's pretty common to see crows where I live in England, and very occasionally you'll see a raven. Whenever we've been in Tokyo we've only ever seen as many crows as we see in England, and the size is not much different for us I don't think. We've seen couple of ravens in Tokyo- one a few years back in Ueno park trying to get into a giant rubbish bag, and one last year on Rainbow Bridge. I think really they're not all that different from seagulls in the UK as they're scavengers and always steal things and break into rubbish bags!

Both ravens and crows are corvids and yes, they're intelligent and they'll remember being mistreated and, according to some research I once saw a video about thereby proving it was true, they'll even remember who mistreated them and attack that particular individual. I wonder if Japan may become even stricter about how garbage can be disposed of, maybe putting it in cans or other containers instead of just plastic bags.
Ok, I just searched a little bit and I found an article that says that in Japan crows will wait for the traffic light to change and put walnuts on the street so that cars running over them will crack the nuts so that the crows can get to the meat. I for one hail our new crow overlords.

just normal crows ,, as kids we would rescue chicks that had fallen from the nest and bring them up as wild semi tame pets in open cages they would leave when they were big enough and wanted to ,, some would even come back to visit (and get fed ) for a couple of years .. i love them, they are super clever animals ( clever enough to come when called ) but they can be a pest when they have no fear of humans .. not because they are actually dangerous ,but because some people are frightened , freak out and drop food when the crows approach them , being clever they learn to mug people for food ...

  • @nairbvel
    @nairbvel Před 6 lety +2

I couldn't tell from the video if those are actually crows or ravens. Although the two are very similar, here in the U.S. (and in Europe) ravens are noticeably larger, have a heavy beak, have a raspy, croaking call, when flying their tail has a wedge or pointed shape while crows are smaller & more lightly built, make the classic (higher pitched, almost nasal) "caw" sound, and when flying their tail is rounded. Also, ravens tend to appear in pairs while crows prefer larger flocks. One more big difference that is not visual is that crows tend to live 7-10 years while ravens often reach the age of 30 -- but both birds are extremely intelligent.

    My Karasu experience
While surfing at Shonan Beach a few years back, I'd left my Black Hawk 3 Day assault backpack on the beach. No worries Japan is a very honest country. But when I returned I saw a murder of Japanese Karasu (because they're very different) had literally taken that backpack down the beach about 20 yards from where I left it. When I came upon them, some 20 or more, to flag them off... I kid you not, that was a mistake. They made it very clear to me they would not be intimidated by me or my actions and that they were very much in control. The largest of the three that engaged me while the others continued to open zippers and snaps on my backpack stood about 20" to 2' all were colored semi gloss black even their mouths except for one place. I don't know why but the three raptors that kept me at bay would, one by one turn up its tail to me to reveal a cherry red asshole (I'm not kidding). I took this as a sign of warning and it was quite unnerving to see that these birds were watching me watch them. Not all instinct and reaction but problem solving and response. Creepy. But after about 5 or so minutes of stare downs and standing ground my ego had had enough and I retrieved my backpack. But let my caution you. As I look back on it now, I didn't just walk through them and take it back. No, they aloud me to have it back.
*extra, I used to cut through this temple on my way to and from work and one day during nesting season I saw them dive bombing and knocked an old lady to the ground as bystanders helped.

The ones in America are big too, I know not to mess with them. They used to torment my poor dog, stealing his food and picking up clumps of his fur (that he'd shed, though I'm pretty sure I saw one dive at him once), most likely for nesting material. The smaller crows live here too, but big ones like that are more common.

En France on voit plutôt des corneilles et pas des corbeaux. Je pense que c'est globalement le cas en Europe.

a japanese friend and i walked in a park in Tokyo and there were Karasu...they were indeed huge. my friend was terrified of them, but i thought they were cool. so, i started making Karasu noises: "アホ! アホ!" "Ah-Hoh! Ah-Hoh!". at first she didn't get why i was squawking until she realized my Karasu noises could be taken as "アホ! - moron!" Once she realized that, she started laughing and squawking, "アホ! アホ!" at the Karasu with me and we spent the rest of the morning chasing after the big-ol' birds calling them morons.
so, yeah. Karasu have a special place in my heart.

I dont understand people that hate on the crows. First we destroy their natural habitat and build houses where they live, then people have the audacity to complain about them?!? It gets me very upset
