Crows remember peoples faces. So yes...shooing them or feeding them will def make them remember you. Theyre also BORN narcisists. A friend of mine owned a crow, and it would love playing tricks to the owner, clawing at him etc just for fun. Theyre smart. Never underestimate them.
The Crows are not big because they eat human food, they're huge because they're a difference species from the ones in Germany. In Germany the two species present are Carrion Crows & Hooded Crows, basically your typical Crow. In Japan the species is the Jungle/Large-billed Crow which are almost Raven-sized & construct more complex nests (Which can explain their greater intelligence).
I thought they were ravens.
@@russellschaeffler "Crow" & "Raven" don't form a natural group within the genus, the only difference is size.
The rhyme is about magpies not crows. I love both they are so cute
I remember I was walking to school on day in the kansai region
Then a crow flew down and ripped out some of my hair for its nest
This happened to me in Portland Oregon. They're big and mean here too!
@@deborah3250 Why you people fear of Crow. In our Country(India) no one ever care
I once Airbnb'ed in Shibuya, and my apartment was in a tall building in a quiet residential area away from the shopping area, so I had no problem sleeping at night. The only noise problem I had was with the crows in the morning. Their cries were so loud and deep, they sounded like something from a horror movie.
The crows in my country (France) are pretty chill. Like, it's easy to befriend them if you regularly give them food. They also chased and replaced the parakeets that had chased away a lot of other birds around the place where I live (near Vincennes, eastern close suburb of Paris), so the other birds came back! And when I'm on horseback with my group and we cross the path of some crows, it's funny how they keep walking while moving out of the way (like "ok ok, I'll let you pass"), or check us from a branch and it feels like they are counting us?
During an internship in the East of France (Lorraine region), I befriended the two crows who were living in the tree in front of my building.
And yeah. I really like corvids in general. :)
Unruly Crow Corvid parrot wars hehe
Ploppy Ploppy Exactly 😂
The thumbnail image uses the wrong "steal". It says "crows STEEL hangers" instead of "crows Steal hangers"... Just an fyi 🤷🏾♂️
I love crows they’re so smart
Yeah, really smart, sadly often underestimated.
I really love crows and ravens! They're incredibly clever and amazing to watch! I know they cause trouble, but I still like them ^^; it's pretty common to see crows where I live in England, and very occasionally you'll see a raven. Whenever we've been in Tokyo we've only ever seen as many crows as we see in England, and the size is not much different for us I don't think. We've seen couple of ravens in Tokyo- one a few years back in Ueno park trying to get into a giant rubbish bag, and one last year on Rainbow Bridge. I think really they're not all that different from seagulls in the UK as they're scavengers and always steal things and break into rubbish bags!
Whoa, they're like the size of hawks
Crows and magpies in Australia can get super large as well and sure enough they destroy rubbish bins/bags as well.
IVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH MAGPIES. I DONT LIKE CROWS, BUT MAGPIES I WILL FEED IF THEY COME TO ME BUT I HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR CROWS AS I SIMPLY REFUSE TO FEED THEM ANYMORE.
KARASUNO???
Go go lets go lets go Dateko!
Hinata *B E S T B O I*
ROLLER THUNDER.... AGAIN!!
the UK rhyme is actually for magpies not crows but oh well ahaha
those crows are MASSIVE!
Somebody better call the CAWps on them.
They're black after all
Hello from Alaska!.. A nest of hangers, that's so amusing. Thank you for this video. Very interesting. I can see how they're intelligent. Amazing how they adapt to the city
Those strawberries!!! In love!
I misread the title i though the title was why japan hates crowds
me and my girls just returned from tokyo to singapore and the crows there were almost twice as bigh as those in singapore! when we came back the crows here looked like mynahs. we absolutley look the crows in tokyo and would stop to watch them feed...or simple walking on the streets. and when they took flight, they look eagles with heavy flaps to bring them on air. they were just simple adorable and if we live in tokyo, we would definitely feed them to keep them coming to our place.
Very interesting and informative. It seems that the video was filmed near JR Sugamo Station in Tokyo. I wonder if the nest of crows was also filmed there or somewhere else?
Adorable
Ohhh hell yes! Only time I got robbed in Japan was by a big ass crow that went into my bag n stole my onigiri. It couldn't have seen them so it went in the partly opened rucksack, found the food and took off with it
THEY ARE BAD NEWS. FOR ANYONE WHO HAS A PET CROW, THAT MAY BE A DIFFERENT STORY IF ITS BROUGHT UP AS A BABY. BUT NOW I HAVE WITNESSED WHAT WILD CROWS CAN BE LIKE I DONT LIKE THEM.
The English rhyme is about magpies, the ones that glimmer blue/green in the light and often have a white streak. On a side note, are you sure they aren't ravens? Ravens look like bigger versions of crows and travel in pairs like mentioned. Though admittedly they aren't usually seen in cities. Also sorry but typo, "steal". Steel is a compound metal.
Can i keep a crow as a pet here in japan?
Tokyo Crows VS New York Rats, let's see who wins.
Florida Iguanas : Come at me bro
@@oneyedthing India's suburbs elephants and king cobras... What did you say girls ?
There are different crow species (Corvidae). The western jackdaw (about 38 cm big) is most commonly seen here in the Netherlands and so I would assume Germany as well. What you have in the video seems to be the Carrion Crow (about 50 cm).
Crows and ravens are common in New Mexico, but they don't seem to be a big problem. Now, grackles are a different story! Those crafty buggers raid the dog food bowls on my back porch, using the drinking water to soften it first. Plus, they have some pretty creepy yellow eyes.
I was gonna say the same thing. Grackles are so annoying. When it's nesting season they dive bomb everybody that gets within 50 feet of their tree.
@@Bones12x2 THATS TERRIBLE. IT DOESNT SURPRISE ME. I HATE THEM FOR THEIR HORRIBLE NOISE. ONE IN PARTICULAR COMES HERE AND HOUNDED ME WITH ITS NOISE SINGING OUT FOR FOOD. I CHASE IT AWAY BUT IT KEEPS COMING BACK AND IT ANNOYS ME LIKE HELL.
Sounds like a challenge. So it is illegal for a tourist to fight a crow in Japan or what
I threw a punch at one that buzzed by my head, but it was more comical than anything.
Sounds like a good episode of Russell Crowe fighting a Crow.
Any guy named Russell will do, really.
The best part is they are both Crows xD
"Mah gawd, King! It's Sheryl Crow from behind, and she's got a steel chair!"
there was one video on youtube where a crow swooped down and took a candy from a Japanese kid. kid started crying. I can't find that anymore.
On the east coast we have alot of Canadian geese(think that's what they are) that seem to exclusively poop on sidewalks for some reason. Besides that we have it pretty easy with birds
Kind of look like they are ravens rather than crows. The ones we had where I lived previously were not aggressive towards people. I kind of wonder if there is something people are doing to them in Tokyo that is making them aggressive, because crows and ravens are capable of remembering how they have been treated and are known to retaliate for being treated poorly.
Or maybe en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large-billed_crow
I think they are Carrion Crows actually.
Both ravens and crows are corvids and yes, they're intelligent and they'll remember being mistreated and, according to some research I once saw a video about thereby proving it was true, they'll even remember who mistreated them and attack that particular individual. I wonder if Japan may become even stricter about how garbage can be disposed of, maybe putting it in cans or other containers instead of just plastic bags.
Ok, I just searched a little bit and I found an article that says that in Japan crows will wait for the traffic light to change and put walnuts on the street so that cars running over them will crack the nuts so that the crows can get to the meat. I for one hail our new crow overlords.
Ms10000123, I've seen them called Jungle Crows too. Is that the same thing?
just normal crows ,, as kids we would rescue chicks that had fallen from the nest and bring them up as wild semi tame pets in open cages they would leave when they were big enough and wanted to ,, some would even come back to visit (and get fed ) for a couple of years .. i love them, they are super clever animals ( clever enough to come when called ) but they can be a pest when they have no fear of humans .. not because they are actually dangerous ,but because some people are frightened , freak out and drop food when the crows approach them , being clever they learn to mug people for food ...
I couldn't tell from the video if those are actually crows or ravens. Although the two are very similar, here in the U.S. (and in Europe) ravens are noticeably larger, have a heavy beak, have a raspy, croaking call, when flying their tail has a wedge or pointed shape while crows are smaller & more lightly built, make the classic (higher pitched, almost nasal) "caw" sound, and when flying their tail is rounded. Also, ravens tend to appear in pairs while crows prefer larger flocks. One more big difference that is not visual is that crows tend to live 7-10 years while ravens often reach the age of 30 -- but both birds are extremely intelligent.
The ones i saw in tokyo have a ruffled mane and a black beak. I didnt see any flocks while i was there, but my hometown has flocks of crows.
I just came from a raven-crow comparison video.
These crows (jungle crows) are not ravens. They cannot soar in the sky. That was the first thing I noticed in the comparison video.
Yes, these guys hang out in flocks, not pairs.
Crows stole my friend's dinner. (We live in different parts of Hokkaido).
And a crow followed me down the road because it thought I was going to take away its garbage dinner and I was also carrying pancakes wrapped inside of plastic and I think it wanted to try and get it but I kept yelling at it and it stayed away so I was lucky.
YOU WERE LUCKY. THERE IS ONE CROW HERE THAT HOUNDED ME EVERY DAY MAKING A LOT OF NOISE IT DOESNT MATTER HOW MUCH I YELL AT IT AND CHASE IT AWAY. IT STILL COMES BACK HERE. THIS MORNING IT WOKE ME UP WITH ITS NOISE AROUND 5 AM. IVE HAD A GUT FULL OF THIS CROW. NOTHING KEEPS IT AWAY. I WISH IT WOULD DROP DEAD. PPL AROUND HERE LIKE CROWS AND FEED THEM. I JUST WANT IT TO LEAVE ME ALONE BUT IT WONT.
Sebastian or Itachi?😂😂
Shoyou-sensei! ;D
PentragonCosplay oooo I like it👏😂
Crows are huge in Scotland .
Now that I think about it I live near a lot of wasteful grocery stores and also restaurants and we have HUGE crows in Florida. And they will stain cars with their droppings all day long! It's crazy 🤣😿
IM GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE BEING HARASSED BY A CROW. THEY ARE NOT NICE BIRDS.
Crows never forget!!!
Crows are like raptors from Jurassic Park. Not even joking.
LMAO
TRUE, WELL EXPLAINED.
Crows in Tokyo seriously are freaking huge. And loud. If you go to Yoyogi park, they're all over the place.
NOT GOOD AT ALL. I CANT STAND THEIR NOISE.
always depending if it is a crow or a raven, but i feel the ones in japan aren't actually that much bigger than the ones we got here
Nice episode..
And....
Eric Draven or Bouya Harumichi ??
That rhyme is used for magpies (the black and white corvids) and not crows 😊
Magpies are a species of crows, so yeah, it's used for crows.
It all depends on the birds prevalent in the area and what humans do with their leftover food and garbage, but there's always at least one type of bird that gets addicted to human junk in urban areas. In my area it's seagulls that behave like this, although just during summer.
Oh yes, the quintessential Japanese crow. Calls you an idiot (アホー) and steals your shinies. The first time I saw them, in Ueno, their size was incredible. I dub them the Black Japanese Flying Chickens because they're around the size of a small hen.
The One For Sorrow poem is about Magpies not Crows:

My Karasu experience
While surfing at Shonan Beach a few years back, I'd left my Black Hawk 3 Day assault backpack on the beach. No worries Japan is a very honest country. But when I returned I saw a murder of Japanese Karasu (because they're very different) had literally taken that backpack down the beach about 20 yards from where I left it. When I came upon them, some 20 or more, to flag them off... I kid you not, that was a mistake. They made it very clear to me they would not be intimidated by me or my actions and that they were very much in control. The largest of the three that engaged me while the others continued to open zippers and snaps on my backpack stood about 20" to 2' all were colored semi gloss black even their mouths except for one place. I don't know why but the three raptors that kept me at bay would, one by one turn up its tail to me to reveal a cherry red asshole (I'm not kidding). I took this as a sign of warning and it was quite unnerving to see that these birds were watching me watch them. Not all instinct and reaction but problem solving and response. Creepy. But after about 5 or so minutes of stare downs and standing ground my ego had had enough and I retrieved my backpack. But let my caution you. As I look back on it now, I didn't just walk through them and take it back. No, they aloud me to have it back.
*extra, I used to cut through this temple on my way to and from work and one day during nesting season I saw them dive bombing and knocked an old lady to the ground as bystanders helped.
The ones in America are big too, I know not to mess with them. They used to torment my poor dog, stealing his food and picking up clumps of his fur (that he'd shed, though I'm pretty sure I saw one dive at him once), most likely for nesting material. The smaller crows live here too, but big ones like that are more common.
Pretty sure the nursery rhyme is about magpies, not ravens, but hey, nice of you to recite! In Greece, we have both ravens and crows, and we tell them apart from size and colour. They are considered tk be skilled thieves, and messengers of the God of the Underworld, Pluto. Generally not a good sight to see. Hefty ones you got there, though!
What crows are in Japan, is what Seagulls are in my country (netherlands)
Desdtroying garbage bags, stealing food from farmers markets etc.
Huge, bothersome, sometimes steal food from your hands when you're eating, poop everywhere.
They look pretty but are really annoying.
Also ich wohne in Berlin (germany) und ich muss sagen an einigen stellen hier und da wo ich wohne sind die Rabben schon genauso groß und habe auch eine ähnliche haltung XD
That crow in the nest was so cute owo
Who else got immediately reminded of the Miike Movie "Crow Zero" ?
Crow in my country. They don't steal hanger
Crows stole my food! I just had gone out of konbini, put one banana bread on my bike (package still unonpened) and went back just to trow away the package of my other sandwich. It was like one minute!
I turn back to my bike just to see these two crows flying away with poor banana bread. Never been that sad.
I once witnessed a crow snag a bag of potato chips from a kid. LMAO
Steal*?
I'm a custodian at an elementary school in California. Crows aren't big or aggressive here but they are smart enough to know what they might find in a garbage bag. Occasionally I'll replace a classroom garbage can, toss the full bag into my cart outside, go back in to vacuum, and when I come back out the bag will have a large hole in it with garbage strewn everywhere.
Several times I've caught them loitering around my cart even without garbage bags in it.
I looked at the thumbnail, read it, and got confused with the word "steel" so I looked it up and the correct spelling is steal. Small little thing, made a English speaker double check :P
But... All my best friends are either crows, squirrels or blue jays...
The crows are so damn cute. Am I the only one who thinks this way?
IS THAT A BLOODBORNE REFERENCE?
Could be worst like spiders and snakes
Hmmm...
They don't seem that big. Here in New Mexico, USA, in the desert, the crows are massive. Extremely big, like there was once me and my mom thought one was a weird hawk because of how massive it was
I personally love them, they're awesome. They can remember a human's face for up to 3 years and can remember if you were nice or mean to them.
They are easily that size in the Western Unites States. Large and clever. A formidable foe.
Sea gulls do the same thing when we put our bins out.
Hello
What shocked me the most about Japanese crows is.. they sound totally different. they have a very (what i call) gay and soft sound. When i did hear that the first time .. i was like. wtf is that sound? i know that from animes lol.. then i looked around and saw a huge crow. and i was kinda shocked how soft and weird they sound there.
In europe, crows sound very rough and hard.
I wish they would
Entonces en Japón los cuervos son gangsters? :v
German "Kolkraben" are just as big as those crows. They are just not that common
Just go to Ueno park in tokyo, there are thousand of fucking big crows screaming and watching you from the trees haha, can be scary.
These are like Australia crows
Ravens
Its so funny because
In America we have native Americans and the one of the tribes are called *crows* I know so because I am a native American crow 😃😀
When I was there they make trash
There are many places in the city because Japan has a narrow population but there is no place for crows to live.
Crows are cute
En France on voit plutôt des corneilles et pas des corbeaux. Je pense que c'est globalement le cas en Europe.
Steal, not steel. Typo on title. Please correct. Thanks.
a japanese friend and i walked in a park in Tokyo and there were Karasu...they were indeed huge. my friend was terrified of them, but i thought they were cool. so, i started making Karasu noises: "アホ! アホ!" "Ah-Hoh! Ah-Hoh!". at first she didn't get why i was squawking until she realized my Karasu noises could be taken as "アホ! - moron!" Once she realized that, she started laughing and squawking, "アホ! アホ!" at the Karasu with me and we spent the rest of the morning chasing after the big-ol' birds calling them morons.
so, yeah. Karasu have a special place in my heart.
( ′ ̅‿ ̅‵) -♡
I had stolen my hotdog in Ueno zoo by Tokyo crow when I was 3 ...
They are so clever.. and attack able for child...
So I hate them...
After watching this, I love them even more
Crows or Ravens? Yes they are very intelligent.
It sounds like the crows rule Japan and the Japanese just live there.
dude that,s crazy
日本国内では日本人が減少して動物達が増えている。どっちがこの地の主なのか分からない状況。
Look like Texas crows they are cute but don't bother them
we're smart. they're smart. we can do business...
right?
てんぐ
Dark soul's crows, yikes.
Steal. Not Steel
アメリカのカラスと同じぐらいです。怖いほどデカいし、ゴミを食べるし、うるさいし・・・
I hate crows , they shout too noisy & hit head & distrub very much
They attack you beacuse of your Jill Valentine beret...
That funny coz "kara" means black in turkish
I love crows, but I was shocked that they steal hangers for what? LOL
To build nests.
I saw the crows and I thought in a genjutsu made by Itachi,in my country there are not crows but we have buzzards
I dont understand people that hate on the crows. First we destroy their natural habitat and build houses where they live, then people have the audacity to complain about them?!? It gets me very upset
i thunk crows are bae
Leaving trash on the street, what do they expect?
