  • 2017 Sinnis Scrambler - First Impressions Review: One of the comments I had repeatedly following my long term review of the Sinnis RSX125 was to the effect of "those Chinese imports are all very well, but what would they last a British winter?". Well those nice folk at Sinnis UK are going to let me find out - welcome to my properly long term loan bike, the pretty 125cc that is the Sinnis Scrambler...this one I won't be giving back until the Spring...let's see how she gets on!

    Been riding one of these for nearly 3 years and I can vouch that it makes it fine through British winters without even cleaning it very often. Cheap (£1800 on road Spring 2015), ultra reliable, (never let me down) solid and easy to service and maintain yourself. Just like it used to be before they started charging you stupid money to read your chip and take the entire bike apart just to get at the air filter.
    It will do 55 top whack, but seeing as there is a speed camera and speed bumps every ten feet now.............
    It is what it is, and it's cheap, but it it isn't crap. Anyway, back in the day we all viewed Japanese bikes with the same contempt, and look what happened to the British bike industry.
    Just saying.............................................................

    Given that European and Japanese bikes are so expensive, young riders and people that just want cheap transport have to start somewhere and the Sinnis would be a good choice. Great review as always.

      TheMissendenFlyer I've only had it three months. I think it was old stock ( Euro3) but unregistered. So I've yet to take it through a winter. Only issues so far have been exhaust manifold bolts working loose but I hear that's quite common. On the plus side, being old stock meant I picked it up brand new for only £1800!

    As far as "weathering the Winter" I will only point out that bikes such as these are used in large numbers in warm humid countries where corrosion grows faster than the grass, so I predict that you may see some minor issues on various fasteners it should come out just fine overall.

  • @dougster701
    @dougster701 Před 6 lety +1

    I had a sinnis scrambler for a year and I’d advice anyone against getting one. Go for an Apache or something instead.
    The welding on the exhaust was truly awful and cheap so that the exhaust guard entirely broke off (while I was riding), leaving large holes in the exhaust. I had it replaced under warranty and 3 months later the exact same thing happened. The welding just cannot handle the heat of the exhaust and breaks apart. It’s the fact that the exhaust guard came off twice whilst I was riding which really prompted me to get rid of the bike, I had to force my leg against the exhaust to stop the guard from being caught in my tyre, melting my boots in the process.
    I also found the gearing quite lumpy in general.
    I do believe sinnis make good bikes, especially the Apache, however I think the scrambler has fundamental design flaws which outweigh the aesthetic

  • @MrJpb2000
    @MrJpb2000 Před 6 lety

    This little Scrambler looks great 👍 only issue for me is the fact that it is only 125cc. Riding on the road nowadays really does warrant a bit more power to, at the very least, get to 60mph. I know that the target audience will be for young or newer riders and it would feel so good to hop onto such a retro Scrambler as a 1st bike for almost anyone!
    I may well be on my own with this comment but feel strongly that the minimum power for any road bike should be such that 60mph is easily achieved. This would (again in my view) keep the other road users happy not to be stuck behind a slow vehicle and ensure that newer riders of such a Motorcycle feel a little more confident knowing that they are able to keep up the pace. 👊😎👍 Brilliant video.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  Před 6 lety +1

      I tend to agree, I rode 190 miles on my 250cc CRF today and thought that that just about had all the power you actually need, to be 100% sure I reckon 300cc is the minimum usable on our roads....

    • @NSBECKETT71
      @NSBECKETT71 Před 6 lety

      I don’t think it matters too much what size or power, if you keep to the speed limit, there is always a dick in an Audi sitting right behind you. Happened on my 125 and now on my little BMW (G310R), the saving grace is that I can now easily get up to the speed limit quicker than most average cars, and away from them pretty easily at lights and junctions.
      Scrambler looks like a Good little bike, same engine, frame, clocks, switchgear, As my Bullit hunt S that I had, which I do have to say that I miss for pottering around the lanes flat out - great fun 😀

    Great Review. Enjoyed it. On the point about the side stand and engine cut out, I once was nearly thrown off my old Honda CB250RS when I drove off with the side stand down, Leaned slightly to the left and the bike nearly pole vaulted over the side stand when the leg hit the road. Careless - of course, but I can see why manufacturers would fit an engine cut out for when the stand is down.

    Visually, it reminds me of the classic Husqvarnas, I think it's the tank shape and styling. As well as the durability of the finish, do keep a check on whether anything works loose, breaks off etc. That has been a key complaint levelled at Chinese built product.

    What you’ve got here is a mid 1970’s ISDT bike...bit like an enduro. On a scrambler you don’t really need the mirrors to be any wider than the bar ends if you’re taking it off road for obvious reasons! Very nice little bike. My only problem would be the Chinese titanium exhaust on a single cylinder bike. Too much vibration and you could end up with cracks. Hope it goes well for the winter. Will you go round your normal green lanes on it?

    You know, this bike shares the frame, engine and a few other components with mutt, lexmoto & ajs bikes, among quite a few others. It’s made by a company called somoto if I recall correctly. It’s surprising that you change only a few components & this bike can be a cafe racer, for example.

      My understanding is that the Himalayan has had some delays at the factory and we still don't have them yet - as soon as we do, I shall be tracking one down to ride! ...and I agree, 250cc even would be perfect, just not quite enough power on a 125 IMO.....

    Hi MF - congrats on your 40K! I have a bit of a dilemma with this winter experiment thing. I suspect if you spray the bike with ACF50, it is so damn good, the bike will be pristine in the spring and you will have proved very little. It would be interesting to see what happens if no ACF50 is applied, but would be the first to agree that any caring biker would always protect their pride and joy over winter! I don't mean to be negative, and I hope you get my drift?

Since you can't see ACF50, if I hose off after every trip I will not know when it has worn away. Not a practical product to replenish after every trip and I couldn't bring myself to spray it on in the autumn and then not wash my bikes until the spring - which is apparently what some people do! Sorry about my comment being more like a book.
    Will be interesting to see how it goes through the winter.
    With the prices of these bikes after Euro 4 Legislation being closer to the branded bikes.
    You would expect the build standards to have improved with the increases in price accordingly.
    That's a similar bike in style to a Lexmoto I had before I bought my Honda CB 125 F.
    I had nothing but issues with that Lexmoto bike.
    Numerous breakdowns for various mechanical and electrical issues.
    Doing it a little bit of google searching.
    I eventually found an article or story regarding the factory my Lexmoto was built in with the owners being jailed for fraud etc.
    I think a lot of the issues come down to how strict Lexmoto, Sinnis etc are regarding the quality standards of bikes being built for them.
    Sableyes wrote a blog about owning a Sinnis 125 Motorcycle previously.
    I believe he had good experience with the first motorcycle owned being the "Trackstar".
    Over 65,000 miles on the "Trackstar".
    Not such a good experience with the "Retrostar".
    I've had my Honda CB 125 F for a year and not had a single mechanical or electrical issue in that period. I've done 5,000 miles on it in that period and although not a huge distance gives you any idea of any quirks over that period. I sprayed Scottoiler FS 365 over the motorcycle in the winter months not so much outwith that. Through winter motorcycle was washed down after use to limit the effects of winter conditions.
    Riding over the winter months through grit, salt and other road dirt the only real issue I had was a couple of the nuts rusting due to the conditions. Which I replaced for cosmetic reasons. ACF50 may or may not have prevented those nuts rusting. I might try it as it's relatively inexpensive.
    In some cases it's poorly built motorcycles although in some other cases it's poor maintainance and upkeep by owner.

    Very kind of the dealer to let you have the bike for the Winter season. I would guess the bike will do just fine. I know the scramblers from BMW, Ducati, and even Triumph are not really suited for off roads. Is the Sinnis capable of doing any off road riding?

    Chinese bikes in general have got significantly more expensive recently, mostly because of Euro 4.
    Had a Lexmoto Street 2012/13 - with this same Suzuki engine - it cost £1100.

      Damn right mate, Imagine that bike, made in Hinkley, and £3795, OTR, and a two year Triumph warranty..... , after all its not like they don't have a history of making little commuters, things like the little 3TA, it was a whole genre of bikes back in the day, BSA B40, Matchless G31, Norton Model 50, Enfield 350, etc etc etc.... there have been bloody hundreds of em back down the years... Imagine if Triumph got the ball rolling with the New 2018 3TA Special ! a road version with bathtub bodywork for the old chaps to ride to work.. and a cheeky Scrambler version for the yobbos.. i recon they couldn't make enough to keep up with demand...... and the whole range would be A2 License compliant too. Hello MissendenFlyer......just come across your channel review of the Scrambler (excellent by the way) and originally had my heart set on the Hoodlum after previously researching reviews and blogs etc but now I’m a tad confused for choice! I haven’t ridden a bike for 37yrs (54 now) but that damn mid-life crisis has gotten hold of me🥴....went to a small dealership today and sat on the Bomber, Scrambler & Hoodlum. I’m at that age where I’m looking for summer/weekend fun riding but comfort is also a factor to enhance the experience, I’m of the same..ish build and height as you and was wondering if you’ve had the opportunity to experience the Hoodlum 1st hand and/or have any opinion on choice. Appreciate it’s a personal thing but I would value your thoughts bud.....thank you.

  • @iamtherealzombie
    @iamtherealzombie Před 6 lety +1

    Looking at the size of that rear sprocket during the walk-around, it's no wonder it won't go above 55mph.
    I'm sure they had to find a compromise considering the "modest" power output, but one would think going up a tooth or two in the rear would get you to 60mph indicated easily enough.
    Still a pretty sweet little ride, can't wait to see how it holds up.

    we went to look at a Sinnis at a dealer, & they said when buying new from a dealer you only get a warranty for parts only, not labour. Which is a little bit off putting. Also I found the brake/clutch levers to be not great quality.

      Hi Peter - some dealers do offer it with only a parts warranty, which is not something we like to hear as most dealers offer it with parts and labour. I would suggest using a different dealer - its something as a brand we are trying to stop. Some dealers will charge an extra £100 to have it with labour warranty too. Like you say, it IS a little off putting and unfortunately we cannot control it. We are trying though
