@@mattd3978 The difference between an oversized threat and an Agent is that Agent generally removes the ability to counteract the Agent (or whatever is grabbing/flickering Agents), either by stealing whatever would normally deal with agent that's on the board, or stealing lands so that a player can't cast their response because they have no mana. Cheating Drakuseth onto the board, the opponent has a turn to untap and kill it, exile it, pacify it, etc, whereas agent is a problem as soon as it hits the board. Just checked, and humans right now don't really have any "win by getting this onto the battlefield" options other than Agent in Standard right now. There are some good ones, but they're often build-arounds in their own right that can't really carry a game by existing. The closest thing is Kenrith, but getting him out when you only have 2 or 3 lands on the field won't shift the balance too much, since his value is in being a mana sink. M21 could easily change that, of course, but I would hope they have the forethought not to introduce another broken human if they don't ban Winota. The risk of introducing another messy human, however, is high enough that I wouldn't feel too bad seeing Winota banned. Right now, Agent is THE card to cheat out, and almost every deck that cheats something out cheats out Agent. For good reason, since getting it out early and flickering it even once will usually leave the opponent where they can't possibly win. We have enough flicker effects and enough things that just throw cards onto the board that banning all of them is probably out of the question, so banning the single most problematic thing that is flickered to oblivion or cheated onto the field is probably more likely.
@@mattd3978 And that's the point of Lukka, to cheat creatures and beatdown the opponent like another Fires deck. Playing Agent is no longer about wincons. It's about forcing the opponent to scoop because the game isn't enjoyable without threats or land on your side of the field. And I agree with what you're saying about Winota, but the current Standard's problem is Agent, and if or when Wizards prints a card that breaks the game because of Winota, they should absolutely revisit the idea of banning her in Standard then.
That is the biggest problem with a lot of the Tier 1 decks currently, they stop letting your opponent from playing Magic and it turns into Solitaire and the only out s hitting your 2 drop counter if you run blue or you out aggro like the Mardu Knights managed. The lack of back and forth is really poor in this current standard and has been since WAR I feel with the liked of Teferi and a bunch of the debilitating Passive Walkers.

Thankyou so much
Winota is not the problem, agent is. I know what CGB said about humans always being in the game but they don't instant win on turns 3-5 by stealing all your lands
@@FaysalAlZand facts, stealing a land for seven mana, unless it is a ridiculous land, most of the time would be a bad play. Cheating in that same play on turn 3 is a stone rain plus ramp. Which we saw with this deck is a common and expected occurrence
@@mattd3978 Stealing a land is very good, you ramp and you weaken your enemy. Stealing a land for 7 mana... Not so much. Hell, stealing a land for 4 mana w blood for bones is not that great either. I mean, it requires quite the setup and in the end is just a better land destruction and you need flicker effects to make it really powerful. The problem with winota decks is not that they steal your land, but that they do it so fast that they literally starve you. A reanimator deck can steal 1 land in turn 4, Winota can steal 4 or more and send you back to turn 1. And then she gets to do it again next turn, all while destroying your face. FUN
@@_Ve_98 exactly, that's what I was saying. For seven mana it's not great. Winota doing it on turn 3 is what makes it ridiculous with stone rain plus ramp effect
Been playing 4x Silhanna Ledgewalker for the DEEEEEEP digging too... Turn 2 you can cast it, or prince to scry 2, or virtual scry 4... in combat you can attack, and if you hit a prince of winota, you can then exile the ledgewalker, to dig 4 for another chance at agent... if its not in top 4, decline and they all go to the bottom. Also, if you dont have the wildcards for hang exe.... you can get " AVEN ETERNAL " 2U 2/2 flying ETB: amass 1 .... so you dont get 2 fliers, you only get 1, but you get 2 bodies, neither of which are human. I find it better in this deck than Alirios (which I originally bought 4 of to go in an aggro thassa blink deck when the set first came out) simply because you get flying which is evasion and 2 bodies that can ATTACK, not 1 that is locked down. You're welcome everyone =)
As many people say Agent is the problem, Winota is a problem of her own as well. I play her in a boros aggro deck (I even run Hushbringer so that my opponent knows I'm a man of honor) and I still reliably win off of a mob of free humans. Not to mention anyone who spends their mana on Unmooring Winota's ego or Caging my deck soon find out that even without her, the sword is lit. Also, CGB my dude, I had a similar problem with light rings, so I got a softbox instead. It diffuses the light so it doesn't hurt my eyes while still providing a really strong light source.
Ring lights are silly unless you're doing makup! You want a nice wide light source (softbox or just shining a regular light at a white wall/reflector) around 10 o'clock on the horizontal axis and also 10 o'clock on the vertical axis, looks good and doesn't shine in your eyes too much.
They have bannings scheduled for Monday. Very likely the decisions have been made already. Of course, since green is classically the worst color, I expect Grazer and Goose to go.

Love the candid nature of this video. I don’t think they’re gonna ban Winota; Wizards typically doesn’t like to ban their shiny, new cards this soon after a set release. Teferi getting banned will lead to Reclamation decks running the format. It has to be Agent. The ability to effectively end games of Magic on turn 3 in a STANDARD format ruins the game.
Wow, just wow. For those looking for a bit more budget build, you can include the Ferocious Pup instead of the Legion Warboss or the Hanged Executioner (3-mana non-human creature that creates a non-human token).
As much as people may dislike some of the decks you play, I'm still glad to see you play them if only to learn a bit more about how they work and what decks are good against them.
So what was that R&D meeting like? Some guy: "Here's my idea for Winota..." Another guy, probably smoking a joint and watching TV, not even paying attention: " Uh, yea, whatever, sounds good. Print it."
But once he rotates in a couple of months we're going to complain about her enabling some other card to go stupid. I mean she's doing it with a card is historic right now with a card no one even considered playing in a jank deck
Oh hey I just played against this deck yesterday! I wasn't sure what it was but once I saw the warboss I figured it was Winota. I got exactsies with Embercleave onto Lovestruck Beast turn 4, they had double Neoform'd turn 3 without getting a Winota so I'm not sure what they were doing.
These are the cards that I believe are warping the meta to a point where it is either you play the tier 1 decks, or you lose every single game. They promote a tier 1 of only 3-4 decks, which I believe is extremely boring. I believe if we ban parts of the tier 1 metagame, a consistent tier 2 will arise, with far more deck choices, and far more deck variety. And as we all know, variety is good. Anyways, these are the cards I believe have gone too far, and they must be dealt with. And no, printing more powerful cards to deal with previous powerful cards just induces a snowball effect, and makes the metagame even more toxic. I believe if we ban one key card from each tier 1 deck, the metagame will evolve into a less powerful, but more fun game as a whole. Agent of Treachery Winota Teferi, Time Raveler Cauldron Familiar Fires of Invention Embercleave Zenith Flare Wilderness Reclamation Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath
@@chefboyardab It's just a ridiculous wall of text creature card yet again. It ramps, draws cards, gain life and easily comes back from graveyard for recurring effects as a 6/6 for 4 mana that needs to be removed, it's just a stupid lazy design of a card that's obviously pushed to sell packs.
dear CGB, please spice up the deck with an Saheeli & Sarkhan triggering Winota... and if you have an evil day put Lukka to make another Agent from all Saheelo tokens... and if you want the ultimate dominance put Fires and Field of Ruin in an Yorion pile and blink the Agent away... PS: do not read further if you already have Agent of Nightmares in your Dreams Before the Yorion blink Trigger bring backs Mr T. use Lukka or Neoform on Winota too double up the Agent triggers... yes YAROK :) thanks CGB for reading this and share my passion for Magic.
I’ve loved Agent of Treachery ever since Core 20 dropped. I am big on rogues and I felt he was a mostly balanced card despite the crazy effect, at least for most of his run. One of my favorite things to do in EDH is to go infinite with Brago, Strionic Resonator, and Agent, losing my friends in the process. Doesn’t happen often but it’s amazing when it does. But this Standard meta is so nutty that he probably has to go. Would be shocked if they don’t ban him Monday. Good night, sweet prince.
This sucks. Boros is my favorite color combo and now that it can finally be relevant everyone finds a way to make it ban worthy splashing it into OP color pairs. At least I still have Haktos 😞
I feel like they’ll ban Winota in Historic but leave her be in Standard. Agent I think is getting the axe though, so she won’t be as good. Thing is, this deck is wildly inconsistent but still has an incredible win percentage. Standard is so odd right now.
@@MekanikKommandoh88 she can still be good tho she still can grab haktos and kenrith and you have t3 attack for 20ish. It's what people play her with in historic (with angrath's marauders for extra umph)
I predict that Agent is going the way of Jace the Mind Sculpture and Broko, banned in their Standard runs when too many decks are playing the same card its just trash for the meta. Since Agent is being played in WInota, Lukka and pretty much every UGX ramp deck from Elementals to devotion it might be an indication that it a bit too good.
10/10 , No Kenrith in the deck. I play along while your video plays. Got to the section where you said you had one, so I neoform Winota and, uh, was quite sad.
This feels like Yu-Gi-Oh OTK shenanigans man. Winota is absolutely insane, digging through the top 6 is waay to much, putting the cards with almost no limitation in the field is waaay to much, and giving them indestructible while also putting them attacking is waaaay to much. And here I thought Questing Beast was an overdesigned card because of the 6 abilities and all.
All I have to say is angraths Marauders (or whatever it's called) in historic. Winota is so powerful it makes previously irrelevant stuff good. Cheating stuff into play has always been a powerful thing in magic, especially when it's an ability. Other cheats like reanimation are dealt with by common counters and dealing with abilities, especially at instant speed has always been a problem
The thing is exactly what CGB said at the beggining. The deck is not consistent in BO3. And there are several answers to this. Winota is not a concern to me, the agent on another hand... Yeah fuck that card. Can't wait to see standard rotate and say good ridance (fuck you) to the agent, Teferi, Nissa and a few others.
Winota is extremely overpowered because her rules state that it only has to be on am attack trigger, not damage or death, and Agent is recurring theft, which is nuts for standard. They both need to be banned, winota in modern too. Agent might be ok in modern, but I could see it making issue
Also Lukka + agent is worse. it's actually easier to pull off than winota just need at least one token and lukka and getting all that by turn threee is not hard with some ramp and a decent amount of land in the deck. in those conditions say your only creature is agent. Then it's 100% certain that you get the agent once lukka is out.
I've said it so many times and I'm going to say it again. Winota isn't the problem, agent of treachery is. Ban agent and winota just becomes a slightly less meh boros deck
Agent of Treachery is not an OP by itself. You still have to have it in your hand and usually have to have a way to play modified or you wait until turn 7 to play it. Being able to play it for free and draw it out of your deck is OP.
When I play regular decks and can’t get a card on the battlefield that allows me to attack for an entire game I set disgusted too. Control decks bouncing, quenching, negating yada yada yada. Then black deck removals and constant discards, I love to throw this their way.
All this Lukka into Agent into Yorion nonsense and you ask for a ban on Winota, a creature that dies to any piece of removal? I didn't expect this from you CGB... I guess some people just prefer to play solitaire instead of bringing removal to INTERACT with your opponent...

@@mattd3978 Sorry we all @'d you 😋 Your points were very reasonable, and there are definitely arguments towards each of these cards.
Mulligan: The Gathering
I thought this shenanigans was relegated to Modern...not Standard.
That gift is unbelievably sweet, very nice of Avery :)
Thanks, you've raised my awareness
That is the biggest problem with a lot of the Tier 1 decks currently, they stop letting your opponent from playing Magic and it turns into Solitaire and the only out s hitting your 2 drop counter if you run blue or you out aggro like the Mardu Knights managed. The lack of back and forth is really poor in this current standard and has been since WAR I feel with the liked of Teferi and a bunch of the debilitating Passive Walkers.
I love the peasant voice from Warcraft 3! Ready to work!
Love the content as always. Chuckled at the old school Warcraft reference. Almost shed a tear at the end there. Keep up the great work and I'll catch your stream on Monday! ~wanpide
Thumbs up on this video for the fan mail gift. That was incredibly sweet~!
I see you took my advice and swapped your camera position to the left side. Awesome and much appreciated!
Hey, CGB.
I want to say Thank you.
I have been following you for since earlier this year and I love your videos. However, this deck pushed me over from Diamond 4 to Mythic. I found this about 5am right before going to bed.
And yet here I am, 6 hours later posting on your video. I played 86 games and made it to Mythic for the first time. It was a wild ride. Thankyou so much
Winota is not the problem, agent is. I know what CGB said about humans always being in the game but they don't instant win on turns 3-5 by stealing all your lands
the historic one uses winota with no agent... and it's actually even better than this one.
FUN
Nope they just win by hitting face even without agent. Been there done that.
Winota needs banned, Banning AOT and fires was not enough
As many people say Agent is the problem, Winota is a problem of her own as well. I play her in a boros aggro deck (I even run Hushbringer so that my opponent knows I'm a man of honor) and I still reliably win off of a mob of free humans. Not to mention anyone who spends their mana on Unmooring Winota's ego or Caging my deck soon find out that even without her, the sword is lit.
Also, CGB my dude, I had a similar problem with light rings, so I got a softbox instead. It diffuses the light so it doesn't hurt my eyes while still providing a really strong light source.
I'm happy that you posted that last "thank you" to your fan!
They need to tone down these library->field effects...
Winota, Luka, etc
Between this and the yorion agent deck, i think this is the lesser evil because it beats you really fast and will not let you suffer a long death
Knights guy with the "oops" is a hero - this deck can die in a fire.
Ring lights are silly unless you're doing makup! You want a nice wide light source (softbox or just shining a regular light at a white wall/reflector) around 10 o'clock on the horizontal axis and also 10 o'clock on the vertical axis, looks good and doesn't shine in your eyes too much.
Avery is definitely in the Cool Kids Club. Those sweet foils were a touching present!
Well, this weekend will show the true power of all these decks. Monday will be the result of it.
They have bannings scheduled for Monday. Very likely the decisions have been made already. Of course, since green is classically the worst color, I expect Grazer and Goose to go.
21:38
Sometimes ? SOMETIMES ?!
BRUH! YOU GOT IN THE SAME VIDEO :
-Topdeck a Winota
-have 3 agents in 20 cards
- Topdeck a redsource
AND I'M NOT EVEN AT THE HALF OF THE VIDEO!
Share ME YOUR "SOMETIMES" PLEAAASE !
Edit: From a desperate Woman
so what youre saying is dont go on ladder until after the bans? sounds good
For Science! Absolute Bloodbath ^^
I just used your white no rares deck to snuff out this winota agent deck. It can still be crushed, don't lose all hope.
29:07 "assert dominance" xD
Wow, just wow. For those looking for a bit more budget build, you can include the Ferocious Pup instead of the Legion Warboss or the Hanged Executioner (3-mana non-human creature that creates a non-human token).
As much as people may dislike some of the decks you play, I'm still glad to see you play them if only to learn a bit more about how they work and what decks are good against them.
That red mage that refuses to concede tho. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
So what was that R&D meeting like?
Some guy: "Here's my idea for Winota..."
Another guy, probably smoking a joint and watching TV, not even paying attention: " Uh, yea, whatever, sounds good. Print it."
Agent is the real villian. Winota is just the fastest enabler for Agent.
But once he rotates in a couple of months we're going to complain about her enabling some other card to go stupid. I mean she's doing it with a card is historic right now with a card no one even considered playing in a jank deck
43:15 covert Goes emotional :) nice to see the passion here. Heart warming :) stay cool, kid
Yeah CGB you raise that friken awareness
Agent of Treachery
Winota
Teferi, Time Raveler
Cauldron Familiar
Fires of Invention
Embercleave
Zenith Flare
Wilderness Reclamation
Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath
What did uro do?
@@chefboyardab Beat him, probably lol
@@chefboyardab It's just a ridiculous wall of text creature card yet again. It ramps, draws cards, gain life and easily comes back from graveyard for recurring effects as a 6/6 for 4 mana that needs to be removed, it's just a stupid lazy design of a card that's obviously pushed to sell packs.
And Nissa.....
Bruh you should be careful against Kroxa instead of Uro.. That titan can mess up your card flow in an instant!
"Stone Rain is too good for standard, but this is fine"
Yep. Sums up Wizard's logic perfectly
CGB on the warpath, I like it.
27:24 ouch
dear CGB,
please spice up the deck with an Saheeli & Sarkhan triggering Winota...
and if you have an evil day put Lukka to make another Agent from all Saheelo tokens...
and if you want the ultimate dominance put Fires and Field of Ruin in an Yorion pile and blink the Agent away...
PS: do not read further if you already have Agent of Nightmares in your Dreams
Before the Yorion blink Trigger bring backs Mr T. use Lukka or Neoform on Winota too double up the Agent triggers... yes YAROK :)
thanks CGB for reading this and share my passion for Magic.
F for King86
I am hoping this deck is the most played deck this weekend as it is currently my best matchup! Keep promoting it!
9:45 Vulnerable Knight haha
I predict that Agent is going the way of Jace the Mind Sculpture and Broko, banned in their Standard runs when too many decks are playing the same card its just trash for the meta. Since Agent is being played in WInota, Lukka and pretty much every UGX ramp deck from Elementals to devotion it might be an indication that it a bit too good.
10/10 , No Kenrith in the deck. I play along while your video plays.
Got to the section where you said you had one, so I neoform Winota and, uh, was quite sad.
5:21 this sounds like a supervillain monologue
This feels like Yu-Gi-Oh OTK shenanigans man.
Winota is absolutely insane, digging through the top 6 is waay to much, putting the cards with almost no limitation in the field is waaay to much, and giving them indestructible while also putting them attacking is waaaay to much.
And here I thought Questing Beast was an overdesigned card because of the 6 abilities and all.
Winota is not problem, problem is agent.
Totally!!!
@@dandiaz19934 Amen!!
They’re both problems, and it’s very apparent if you’ve played.
Winota proves that you don't need two working arms to be the most powerful super villain on your plane
G1 his OOPS is because his Shock was lethal after you shocked in that land. He shocked your critter instead of face. He wasnt being rude.
Agent of Treachery is a problem... I'm just not sure if it's more or less of a problem than Winota. I think less?
Is this *technically* an evil CGB video?
Winota is extremely overpowered because her rules state that it only has to be on am attack trigger, not damage or death, and Agent is recurring theft, which is nuts for standard. They both need to be banned, winota in modern too. Agent might be ok in modern, but I could see it making issue
That was very dirty, Winota 😦
F for theking
natural light is the natural enemy of the gamer
Well there's a reason it's called WINota
Been avoiding Magic since this set released. This shit is absurdly broken. No idea what the MTG card design team was on while making this garbage lol..
Magics slowly turning into yugioh
yugioh before this recent meta shift was a lot more back and forth than this tbh
Love the Stone(d) Rain Comment! Lol
best outro ever
While watching this video I played against a very similar deck. He tried so hard to feed Winota for when he cast her that he kept taking damage then when he finally cast her I just used Ashiok Erasure and concede. I love Erasure in Dimir Flash
