- Last week was my dad's birthday. He turned 70 and I wanted to make it special for him by getting him a Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s Gold Top with P90 pick ups. This was a the exact guitar (color, model and pick ups) my grandfather bought my dad as a gift during his blooming music career during the 70s. Unfortunately it got burned in a fire at night club on an tragic night in 1974. I've been wanting to get him to guitar for a long time and finally got to do so. In this video I surprise him with this guitar on his 70th birthday! I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching! Please like the video and subscribe to my channel! Thank you!

You didn't give a guitar. You gave your dad the fountain of youth. Look at that smile, priceless.
How poetically beautiful is it that both his father and his son bought him this guitar, decades apart
I like the way you think everything is full circle right there
Thanks Zedd! I appreciate the kind comment. Much love man! 🙏🙏
@@DavidYoungChoi What bands did your dad play with and who did he write for? maybe you could do a video with him to talk about his music career, and play a few tunes of course. As soon as he plugged her in and started playing he was a young man again, awesome to watch.
The dad went from an old man to a young lad!!
😂❤️🙏
A true rocker, ageless
Who clicked this to see this guy rock out with his new guitar

I would like this comment

Me. And his dad is really good. Even at 70, damn.
*Dad* “What am I going to do with this”
*Same Dad* Plugs the guitar in and knows EXACTLY what to do with it
it's Hilarious, mouth it saying "no expensive bla bla", hands have already checked if it's in tune and adjusting it :D Fantastic, life at its best my friend, well done :)

Needs to be more of this kind of stuff shared. It's healthy for everyone.
Thanks Shane
I couldn't stop smiling when he was opening it. This is heartwarming.

It always moves me when hearing parents saying "it must be expensive" when they receive gifts from children. They gave us so much but they don't ask for anything from us
🥲😇🙏 thanks MusicLive for the comment and watching
that is the sign of a parent that truly loves their child. Alas, too many parents don’t.
And they deserved the gifts like these. 💖💖
Thats so true
Musiclive! Me too, b/c it is exactly what my mom would have said. I can hear her... "Bobby! Darn you! How much did this cost?!"
even at the age of 70, you are still a child in front of a gift
Love it. Thank you 🙏🙏
You know why he took the picture of the box, right? To show everyone what a wonderful son he has, even before knowing what was in it.
🥲❤️
Takes a photo before he unwraps it, says no because it's too expensive, then shreds like he never lost it. I LOVE this guy! Good on you son, you did the right thing.
❤️🙏
It doesn’t matter if you’re 15 or 70; the excitement and joy of getting a new guitar never goes away. It’s inspiring to see that your father, at 70, still has what it takes to make that instrument sing.
Hi JJ, thanks for the cool comment. I appreciate it. Thanks for watching as well. Happy Holidays 🎄🎄
Yeah I love getting new guitars hahahaha
It’s funny you used my age. I just got a new guitar and I was so excited.
EDIT: My dad got it for me for Christmas, it was an acoustic and I was planning on getting an acoustic guitar but now I don’t! And my brother is now thinking if getting himself a new one and then giving his old one to my sister so hopefully i might be able to jam with my brother and sister!

My father recently passed away. For his 80th birthday I had his father's guitar restored. it had been in pieces since World War II and I had been holding on to it for over 50 years. I put the guitar in my case and ask him to open it telling him I had a string buzzing and I wanted him to check it out. He open the guitar case and stood in shock in silence a tear ran down his my great-grandfather's name was Charlie. he looked up and said Charlie I want you to see what my boy done for me. It was a greatest father-son moment ever
What guitar was it if ya dont mind me asking?
Those fingers never left the stage. Like one of my favorite Rock band would sing, he "...climbed the stage again this night." Great love from a son to a father.
❤️❤️
Nice to see a 70 year old Asian man still remembering all the chords of his younger days. Great gift.
Thanks David 🙏🙏
I forwarded this video to my wife and three daughters. I reminded them that I turn 70 in 7 years. I also posed the question, “But why wait?”
Haha 😂 best comment so far. Thanks Terry for watching 🙏

Need a more tragic back story....never going to work.
Yes, why wait?!!! 👍👍👍
This comment is gold!!
I literally just watched that man get younger....

Can we also talk about the perfect squat position his dad is chilling in at 70 years old?
😂😂
I’m 70 also and can do that. Getting out of it is an entirely different story. 😉
@@tiggersboy hope you are healthy and safe during these weird times
Tell me about it.
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
Dad was speechless. Priceless. and at 70 still plays like a pro. How did he survive all these years without his Les Paul? The perfect gift.
As a Gibson employee I woke up this morning and my hand was sore from rim sanding these last night. This video made it all worth it......enjoy
how do u even get a job there

People appreciating craftsmanship. Cool!
thank you Gibson amazing guitar
The joy he felt you could tell like he was young again
How he unpacked it, that’s a Moment money can’t buy! I mean, he’s 70 and he ripped the box apart like a 7 year old. Awesome, that made me happy!
Yay! 😁 Thanks so much Kevin for watching and leaving an awesome comment. Much appreciated!
This made me so happy ! I am smiling still. I'll say this man , what a wonderful son this 70 yr young Dad , has. I am a 64 yr ol' guitar player and seeing your dad's eyes light w joy , happiness made me feel great!! I can only imagine the memories that were brought back with your most thoughtful gift. I love how he quickly played a couple measures of Carlos Santana's solo in Oye Comé Va (sp) !!
The joy on his face while he plays it for the first time. What an awesome gift from his son!
Thanks Jack ❤️❤️
Dad deserves every inch of that Gibson

That is a true father even with your gift. He worries that you might spend too much money on it. I wish him great health and live long over 100 years.

his smile said everything
Thanks Kenn ❤️
That look in his eyes was as if had found a long lost soulmate. He then proceeded to dance with his soulmate. This is love at the deepest level. Thanks for this.
The smile when he says "That Tone" did not need subtitles. That smile is the international sign the brother is beyond happy!
Tone is the universal language
We as musicians, can hear without being there, we know what that sounds like!!
I just bit into a pepper.....that's all.
If Gibson had any brains at all, they would put this on their channel. "You can only get this tone from this guitar." He is so right.
Hopefully they see it
Gibson goin bankrupt ain't they?
@@sahedthebutler8685 they filed in 2018, but the guy who saved Levi Strauss took over in 2019 to save the company. Pretty sure they scaled down operations considerably and are still currently in operation although that was pre pandemic.
@@soberveganhipster good to hear that. Hearing one of the biggest guitar company go bankrupt make me sad a little. Nowadays there's too many fake guitar. Some even have serial number they stole from the original one.

@@claudiocruzat7667 Yep, unfortunate but true, Gibson make great guitars but they are way overpriced.
@@marioguti9887 considering amount of work they put in making them they are not expensive
@@juodasai Well, supposedly we're basically paying a pretty penny solely on the name brand, not an expert on the manufacturing costs admittedly but I've seen many videos by guys who know their guitar stuff and they claim they are way overpriced, like 5 to 10 grand for a guitar??? How can they justify that? BTW I own a Gibson Les Paul Studio, 50s Tribute with P90s, a couple of dudes I know told me I could've gotten a better guitar from other guitar makers for the almost 1 grand I paid for mine for hundreds less, that I basically overpaid for having the Gibson logo on the headstock. I like my Les Paul, don't get me wrong, just telling you what I've been told.
Do you know what "Play Authentic" of Gibson is? If anything, Gibson wll sue his dad for playing a Gibson guitar, and will sue David Young Choi even recording this video without Gibson's authorization.
David Young Choi should have bought an ESP Eclipse for his dad instead.

I work for Gibson, and sometimes when I’m helping make and pack the guitars I silently hope that each guitar is going to someone whose life will be positively changed. Thank you for reminding me that what we do there each day makes a difference in people’s lives!
Every Gibson guitar makes a huge difference in our lives, especially in this covid period. It is like a psicological treatment, we forget about everything while we are playing. Your work is so important in this period, thank you.
Yes it's great!! I've got a Series 2 Explorer in black sometimes I just open the case and look at it for a while even though I've owned it 20 years or so it's brilliant to play!!!!!
I’m a fender guy but I’d buy a Gibson if you guys could just figure a way to keep those head stocks from snapping 😂
You probably only make the tea at Gibson and even then their tea is probably shit just like their guitars🙂
Gibson makes the best guitars in the world. My opinion. Fender is good but it's like comparing Toyota to a BMW. Toyotas are good like Fender but it will never be a BMW or a Gibson. Only a Gibson is Good Enough. The only guitar I'll ever play and has never let me down on stage or in the studio.😎🎸

This is so Beautiful I came here after watching your Dad singing Have You Ever Seen The Rain. I was wondering why he didn't sing that song for 50 years. Maybe the tragic back story of that horrific fire may be the reason. He was a Hero saving so many lives. He is a Beautiful person full of love and light . you two are so Blessed to have each other.
