"My Mother & I" Lyrics:
My mother
hates her body.
We share the same outline.
She swears that she loves mine.
I blur
at the edges.
I'm all soft shapes and lines,
shapeshifting all the time.
The stars have a lot to say
about babies born
in the month of May.
We are down to earth.
We see eye to eye.
We dig our feet in,
my mother and I.
My mother and I
They called
me an old soul
when I was too young to know
the difference between a soul and a ghost.
I feared
what was inside,
trapped in my body, kept from the other side.
A spirit searching for a second life.
The stars have a lot to say
about women born
in the month of May.
We want love,
warm and forever.
We want to die
in the presence of our loved ones.
My mother and I.
My mother and I.
All, she has given.
All, I have taken.
All is forgiven.
All is forsaken.

#LucyDacus #2019 - Hudba
This song is so perfect. It really captures the relationship only mothers and daughters can have.
She’s everything to me but a lot of hurt comes with being loved by her.
She’s given me her resilience and her strength. She’s given me her pain and her burden.
She’s nurtured me and she’s torn me apart.
I don’t want to be like her but we share the same shape. I have her eyes and her smile. My laugh sounds like hers.
And I think that’s why I forgive her.
I forgive her because I am a reflection of her.
An immature sentiment from. daughter who has not yet grown up and is only human, hurtful and flawed herself. Time too grow up!
i feel so seen by this i hate it
This is poetry
Showed this to my grandmother after Mother's Day and we just sat on the porch and listened. She asked if this was "my girl" as I just got lucky enough to see Lucy in concert a few months ago and I nodded. She smiled and said she knew why I liked her music so much.
This song always reminds me of my grandma, and I'm so lucky to have her in my life.
If a daughter can appreciate a Mom this way and this depth, it shines the true core of motherhood.
So Lucy wants me to feel like THIS... on a WEDNESDAY!?!
Kona Kai 😖😖😖😭😭😭
And in this economy?!
@@Timefighter820 I cannot afford these emotions during Taurus season!
smooth
Read this on a Wednesday 2020
Made the extremely hubristic decision of listening to this for the first time at work and had to take a cry break lmao the mummy issues JUMPED out!!
When someone says the words I didn't know I wanted to say.
I love my mom but she projected her body issues onto me and my sister and we still are recovering from it to this day. For anyone who might be a mom one day, remember that we hear you, we know what you say, we understand more than you know

This is just beautiful. While working late this evening I left the desk for a few minutes and returned to find my daughter had queued this song to play for me. Smiled at me and went up stairs.....how lovely.
In tears. Your lyrics, the poetry of your voice, the genius arrangement masquerading as simplicity. Just WOW and thank you.
😞 All that she has given

the best early birthday gift i've ever indirectly received
What a beautiful song. I love it.
I'M CRYING
Such a deep song, I'm a little bit curious about what fostered the creation of this music, more precisely what she was thinking when she wrote it. Oftentimes you unfortunately end up having so little info and perspective about what was going in the artist's life when they were creating beautiful and timeless art.
she talks about it in this video

Most mother's love unconditionally this child obviously has not had a child of her own yet and is still learning, very self indulgent & tinged with a sense of feeling victimised by the lack of perfection in her upbringing by another equally flawed human being...
You cannot bring your problems into ur child’s life. Every human is flawed, I agree with that. But you cannot make your children think they are flawed because of what you have said about yourself. That is something you confide in your partner. Not your children.
