There's no shortage of good music today. It's hard to keep up at my age, and I'll never hear it all before I die, but I feel fortunate to have heard Lucy Dacus.
Thanks for saying this! Too many old folk seem to rant about new music. I feel the same way. The algorithms are recommending me 5 or 6 album masterpieces every day (from any decade) and I can't physically keep up.
Her mom used to be my old elementary school music teacher and I remember her bringing Lucy to play a song for us and I have been following her for about 8 years now at this point I remember her as a highschooler and watching her and supporting her as she grows up is an amazing experience.
the boygenius cinematic universe just keeps on giving
"The most that I could give to you is nothing at all
The best that I could offer was to miss your calls" damn lucy, stop ripping my heart out
Lucy Dacus, you have done it again, constantly raising the bar for us all and doing it flawlessly....
I had the opportunity to interview Lucy a few years back at Lamplighter Coffee in Richmond before she “blew up.” She is as kind and humble as she is talented. She deserves every bit of success in the world. Best of luck on your journey, Lucy, and I hope we cross paths again!
Grammy's 2022: "Best ""new"" artist.
@@jamesbodison4871 I mean, Nirvana won the VMA for best new artist in 1992 even though their first album was in 1989 so I guess it counts
she needs a really huge HIT tho just like Lizzo who got best artist 4 years into her career
lucy please i don't think my heart can handle this
That wink has killed me. I am now dead.
literally dont think ive ever been more excited for an album
heartstopperrrr❤❤❤
Heartstopper ❤
Idk how to explain it but Lucy just looks like a Taurus
I’m also screaming this slaps and I can’t wait to see her in October
miss dacus i simply cannot do this today
Adorable... then and now!!! Love you Lucy!!
Lyrics
Being back here makes me hot in the face
Hot blood in my pulsing veins
Heavy memories weighing on my brain
Hot and heavy in the basement of your parents’ place
You used to be so sweet
Now you’re a firecracker on a crowded street
Couldn’t look away even if I wanted
Try to walk away but I come back to the start
Help me to the floor even though I’m not a dancer
Ask me all the questions that your parents wouldn’t answer
How could I deny diamond in the rough
You let me in your room till you had enough
You knew that I wanted you to bend the rules
How did I believe I had a hold on you
You were always stronger than people suspected
Underestimated and overprotected
When I went away it was the only option
Couldn’t trust myself proceed with caution
The most that I could give to you is nothing at all
The best that I could offer was to miss your call
Being back here makes me hot in the face
Hot blood in my pulsing veins
Heavy memories weighing on my brain
Hot and heavy in the basement of your parents’ place
You used to be so sweet
Now you’re a firecracker on a crowded street
Couldn’t look away even if I wanted
Try to walk away but I come back to the start
And it happens over and over, and over and over again
Over and over, and over and over again
I wish I was over it, over it, over it, over it, over it
A hidden gem my own goldmine
You had the wide and wild eyes
You were a secret to yourself
You couldn’t keep from anyone else
Now you’re the biggest and brightest flame
You are a fire that can’t be tamed
You’re better than everybody anyway
It’s bittersweet to see you again
@@MartyHalpern definitely not what she's saying tho, my money is on "you're better than ever but I knew you when"
Omg... she found self love and therefore she loves every one! Holy wow!
RICHMOND! Lucy I love this so so much. I'm crying a little....
this has truly been a year for boygenius fans 🥰
no point in lying, i'm here because of heartstopper and i just wanted to say thank you for this song, issac's story was sad enough and this song is just a gem - an aroace person
i think i might have to watch heartstopper now 😊 what episode was it??
@sadg4ymusiclvr s2ep6 truth/dare :D if you just want to hear the song, it plays for a bit right before the climax of the episode, but if you want to see issac's aroace storyline it's spread throughout the entire season
THE TEARS AND NOSTALGIA
I love this whole song but the instrumental for the last 1:45 is absolutely amazing. I would like to hug whoever came up with that arrangement.
The level of storytelling throughout this entire album is immaculate!
Definitely one of my favorite albums of 2021!
radio doble nueve 99.1fm
Damn, It's hard to believe this is the same lady that sung "why is the water so warm in the kiddy pool" in my music class back in like 2nd grade
The production and arrangement are innovative and brilliant. The tempo break and Pink Floyd throwback caught me by surprise The lyrics took me on a nostalgic ride...so much so, that I hit replay over and over and over again.
Beautiful. I live in Richmond and it is so great to see the Byrd Theater. Beautiful voice.
Ayeee The Byrd ! RVA baby!! I live / grew up right around there 💯
Heavy 2011 energy. This is so wholesome. Thanks for making me tear up at 4 in the morning.
What a gift man. To see and love and hold our younger selves....that’s a gift that we all deserve to give ourselves.
And all of your loved ones too! They’re so proud of you!!! Was that your grandma!?!?
Brilliant, sweet and powerful. Just like your music!!!
Thanks Lucy!!!
this is devastating thanks lucy
I first heard this song about 3 months ago on Canadian satellite radio while moving out to Seattle from VA. I've played it daily since and finally decided to look up the video. Low and behold, I'm greeted with Carytown and the Byrd theater from my hometown of RVA! Thanks for the nostalgia! I needed it. Brilliant song and the fact that she's repping her Richmond roots makes me appreciate her even more as an artist.
it is so cool being from richmond and seeing a place i associate with growing up also resonate with one of my favorite artists
I feel so nostalgic when I listen to this album. Happy tears and also sad tears
Ms. Dacus I've had a tiring day already and I hope you aren't planning on making me cry 😤
Oh my goodness! What a wonderful song! This touches me deeply and brought back my own memories. It was also so lovely that you used the Byrd Theatre for your setting. An old Legend and a NEW legend (you!) XXXOOO
Beautiful. Gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes.
SHE IS SO CUTE OMG MY HEART 😭❤
I loved her freaking out to the head trip of all those people outside the theatre. My mind went the route of them being alternate reality versions of her kinda like the ending to Bioshock Infinite, them all representing aspects of her in different situations and them all supporting her in the path she has taken and will continue to take. The flowers also representing her growth and only being on her seat as to her growth being the centric growth for the other version of her alternates. Maybe it’s a crazy theory to take but I liked it and thought I’d share.
Ps when I receive notification of her tour I got so excited. Union Transfer is my favorite venue.
Well Rich she’s using my lyrics and GarageBand track for this, the reason she was doing the Pabst Theater is that I used to work there!
The quarantine album I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR
I always love seeing Richmond in your videos! Can't wait for the rest of the album :)
I’ve had this stuck in my head since I first heard it, I am SO excited for this album
i found this video last week and can't stop listening to lucy and I'm so excited about her album
RICHMOND !! BYRD THEATRE !! AH ! LUCY D. DOES IT AGAIN !!
I love it. If I was famous and creative I would come back and somehow feature the Byrd and the Carytown scene in my work too. So many nights with my friends lined up for midnight matinees, listening to buskers, and checking out people. I can't wait for the return of live music shows and movie theaters and strangers who dig the same art I do.
Omgggg this song makes me feel life in my veins. Thank you Lucy for this gem !! ❤️
Can't wait for the full album! I love you Lucy!
Love it, I’m so hype about the new album 🖤
this is the first song I heard of Lucy Dacus and I simply loved it!
I just discovered this song and Lucy’s music as a whole, and man she is a GENIUS. This is my favorite song of hers right now and this music video did not disappoint, I even shed a few tears haha

Have so many memories of the Byrd. Your album is magical!
Wow. Can't wait for that Tucson date. Best wishes on the new album and tour! (The last bit of real footage -- jumping in front of the other kids -- is hilarious.)
Very beautiful, and I have felt the sentiments as well in my own life. Perfectly said 🎯
From 3.02 till the end this track compares to the brilliance of Public Service Broadcasting though don't ask me to name a particular track. Got my Lucy Dacus ticket to see her in London in March. That day can't come soon enough. Thank you BBC radio 6 for introducing her to me
I love Lucy!!!
Legit outstanding. Beautifully shot & edited. I really love the narrative of everyone in town being one with/a piece you cause damn ain't that real. Great lyrics too. "You were always stronger than people suspected. Underestimated and overprotected." Come on. Well done.
Such a magical voice.
I have been waiting for this to drop! This made my day!
