- The nyckelharpa is an instrument that's mainly seen in scandinavian folk music, but virtuoso players like Erik Rydvall have begun branching out.
Erik has transcribed and played many different baroque pieces on the nyckelharpa, both solo and with ensembles.
Here he plays the Prelude from Bachs Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major.

First tear I've ever teared up over Prelude. All it took was the Nyckelharpa. Thank you.
The oldest “evidence” of nyckelharpa use is a relief on one of the gates to Källunge church on Gotland from about 1350. Bach showed up in 1685. 335 years.
And this year it's been exactly 335 years since Bach was born. :)
my first time hear this piece on this amazing instrument. thankyou.
greeting from bali island😊
Das Instrument sehe ich zum allerersten Mal. Eine tolle Interpretation.
Wonderfulllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 BRAVISSIMO!!!!!
What a beautiful piece and great interpretation!.
Please please more! I start playing now! It's a big inspiration
Wonderful interpretation, regardless of what the "purists" might say. Beautifully played.
Remember what Virgil Fox said about purists!
It stands on it's own well !
this is amazingly awesome, and that may well be the coolest instrument i've ever seen/heard. thanks for sharing!
Bello instrumento! Suena maravilloso 😍 Gracias 🤩
i love it. 😁
that was amazing, I'm in love
Just wonderful, only feel sorry not to listen the entire suite as it's such an illuminated one.
I like the up tempo for the second part
Привезите, пожалуйста этот божественный инструмент и гений Вашего таланта в Россию.
Some parts were great, others you can see why this instrument didn't make it to the orchestra.
I loved it!
This sounds in D Major cause this is a Fiddleharpa tuned like a Violin & uses Violin Strings
Hi Erik, Who made your nyckelharpa? It sounds wonderful.
Esbjörn Hogmark
Erik, por que somente um livro está de cabeça pra baixo?
What kind of Nyckelharpa is this? Mine is tuned lower, and is a larger instrument...
why the wrong notes? I understand and love the folk groove of this interpretation. But puzzles me the option to change some passages of such a perfectly written piece.
I'm sure you would appreciate Torbjörn Näsbom's Bach interpretations on nyckelharpa! He goes by "TorbjornLars" on CZcams
@@zuperduperboi Olá! yes, I know, TorbjornLars is a top and rare musician, on Swedish music and transcribing baroque music for Nyckelharpa!
Hi! I did my best at the moment. Maybe should have focused more on keeping to the original but my melody is just to go with the flow. Everything has its time. However, there was no intention to play the wrong notes. But Now a few years later I think I know how it should be. I will make a new recording of it any day 🙂
@@erikrydvall-nyckelharpa9112 That´s the beauty of Bach. Endless ways of playing and interpretation. In fact there are some notes on the Suites that are not so clear, because we don't have the original manuscript from Bach. So you hear recordings and study written editions that are different in some points but not in that prelude passage. 🙂
Because why not? Who cares?
