    Benedetto sia ´l giorno, e ´l mese, e l´anno,
    E la stagione, e ´l tempo, e l´ora, e ´l punto,
    E ´l bel paese, e ´l loco, ov´io fu giunto
    Da due begli occhi, che legato m´hanno,
    E benedetto il primo dolce affanno,
    Ch´i´ebbi ad esser con amor congiunto;
    E l´arco e le saette ond´io fu punto;
    E le piaghe, ch´infin al cor mi vanno.
    Benedette le voci tante, ch´io,
    Chiamando il nome di mia Donna, ho sparte;
    E i sospiri, e le lagrime, e´l desio;
    E benedette sien tutte le carte
    Ov´io fama le acquisto; e ´l pensier mio
    Ch ´e sol di lei, si, ch ´altra non v´ha parte.

      Blessed be the day, and the month, and the year,
      and the season, and the time, and the hour, and the moment,
      and the beautiful country, and the place where I was joined
      to the two beautiful eyes that have bound me:
      and blessed be the first sweet suffering
      that I felt in being conjoined with Love,
      and the bow, and the shafts with which I was pierced,
      and the wounds that run to the depths of my heart.
      Blessed be all those verses I scattered
      calling out the name of my lady,
      and the sighs, and the tears, and the passion:
      and blessed be all the sheets
      where I acquire fame, and my thoughts,
      that are only of her, that no one else has part of

    @eyestrained07 Just as he proved the "experts' wrong when they said Neapolitan songs MUST be sung at full voice throughout by singing a verse of O' Sole Mio in pianissimo. In the same song, again he proved the "experts" wrong who said male singers could not trill! I have the feeling that most "experts", and everyone else quickly learned never to tell Pava he couldn't do things--lol

    SONETO DE PETRARCA
    O último dos três sonetos de Petrarca, na música
    De Liszt, "Eu vi na Terra trajes angelicais", expressa
    As belezas celestiais no mundo do sol, a clássica
    Inspiração dos mundos felizes à Terra interessa.
    As lágrimas terrenas convertidas em luz, chorando
    Numa concentração mais doce de todas as outras
    São blandícias que chegam no planeta suspirando
    Esses momentos inefáveis de beleza são amostras.
    Deixando as montanhas de fogo girarem e os rios
    Permanecer em seus cursos correndo ao mar, tanta
    Doçura renovando ambientes, chegando augúrios.
    Regozigemo-nos todos com a alegria que chegou
    Nos tempos da pandemia, isto anima e acalanta.
    Sabendo que das trevas um ser de luz se restaurou. (*)

    Ευλογημένη να 'ναι η μέρα
    Ευλογημέν’ η μέρα κι ο μήνας κι η χρονιά
    η εποχή και ο καιρός κι η ώρα κι η στιγμή
    το μέρος το ωραίο κι ο τόπος που σκλαβώθηκα
    από δυό μάτια όμορφα που μ’ έχουνε δεμένο

    Κι ευλογημένη η πρώτη γλυκιά λαβωματιά
    που μ’ έτρωσε όταν ο έρωτας με βρήκε
    το τόξο κι η σαΐτα που με σημαδέψαν
    και οι πληγές που μέχρι τη καρδιά μου φτάσαν

    Ευλογημένες κι όλες οι φωνές π’ ακούω ν’ αντηχούνε
    όταν της Λάουρας το όνομα φωνάζω
    κι οι στεναγμοί, τα δάκρυα κι η αποθυμιά

    Κι ευλογημένες όλες οι γραφές
    που την παινεύουνε κι ο λογισμός μου
    που ‘ναι για κείνη μόνο κι αλλού δεν ξεστρατίζει

    I've heard versions by Gedda, Kraus, Quasthoff, and others. I like them all but this easily tops them all by a mile. And I'm not a huge Pavarotti fan.

      There are a number of very fine recordings of the 3 Petrarch Sonnet settings by less well-known singers. A particular favorite of mine is that of American tenor John Aler:
      czcams.com/video/IYwJMVN73_g/video.html
      (Also, I really wish baritones like Quasthoff would sing Liszt's later, low-voice version rather than transposing the original tenor one down, which always makes the piano part sound wrong.)

      Dieter Clavius ..il soigne sa voix....oser comparer la voix de PAVAROTTI à celle de KAUFMANN..cela m’intrigue profondèment ..ou alors nous n’avons pas les mêmes critères ? même dans l’interprétation ..un vrai ténor d’un côté et de l’autre une voix sombre et laborieuse qui se rapproche plus d’une voix de baryton martin..quoique si l’on écoute M. BATTISTINI.....de KAUFMANN et lui..lequel a l’émission la plus claire et aisée ?? djouille Eluzalyrics

    • @treesny
      @treesny Před 5 měsíci

      Gedda was well into his 60s when he finally got to record Liszt's songs. The voice had thickened considerably, and despite his admirable technique, there were some intonation issues. What a pity EMI, for whom he recorded a great deal in all sorts of repertoire, never caught him in his 30s or 40s... he was marvelously suited to this music, and could have handled with ease the German, French and Italian linguistic demands, not to mention Liszt's single settings of Russian, Hungarian and English!

  • @doddsalfa

    I'm a huge Pavarotti fan but nobody tops Gedda in this type of music:)

    • @treesny
      @treesny Před 5 měsíci

      Unfortunately, Gedda didn't record this or any other song by Liszt until he was well past his prime; listening to his two CDs of Liszt songs are an exercise in "if only..." Such was the shameful neglect by performers and recording companies of this great repertoire.

    Y pensar q hay animales, anormales y sub normales q le echan barro a este cantante. Por hacer conciertos como los 3 tenores, por sus equivocaciones en las relaciones con sus colegas, y por su técnica. En serio, Dios mío, llévate a esta gente FRUSTRADA con el covid. Si lo haces me iré caminando de rodillas hasta el Océano.
