  • Today we've got the early 80s Dumble Overdrive Special back on deck, this time with a fantastic 1957 Fender Stratocaster! This guitar is in fine condition, as it came from a great collection with only a few changes made such as replaced tuners, new nut and refret, with a very light and natural feeling overspray on the neck. Otherwise the body and all circuits are original! Today we've got Aaron Hiebert for the demo so we'll just get straight to it!
    For more information on the guitar or amp, please give us a call!

    You can whine about the cost.
    And complain about the hype.
    But, imho, that is holy grail tone.
    It can’t be duplicated with a pedal, or a digital reproduction. Heavenly!

    You wanna hear what this level of amazing amplifiers & vintage guitars really can do?
    Come on out to Nashville, there's a handful of jazz juke joints around town.
    Some of the best guitar players in existence out here that are on another level then any signed artist.
    They don't want all the crap that goes along with being a big label artist and do just fine playing around town EVERY night.
    Talk about authenticity...DAMN.
    Like next level Larry Carlton, Jay Graydon
    (ex: Polynesian "Peg" scorching guitar solo) mixed with Duane Allman, Gary Moore, WICKED good.
    That amp & buttery Stratocaster would be put to work!!!

      I’ve seen several guitarists who play them live. I’ve seen several guitarists who play Fishers amps live. I think I like the Trainwreck amps better. The best tone I’ve ever heard had been out of a blackface super reverb so there’s that too.

    But live in person? Vintage low-output Strat and Dumble amp with maximum sustain and fidelity possible from a couple of 6L6s?
    It doesn't get much better. Warts and all, this is 100% dripping, oozing, caramelizing in tone.

    Strange choice to engage the bright switch in the overdrive setting, especially with a strat. Also, most of the 80s ODS were voiced to be used with a dumblelator, which trims off the harsh sounding treble frequencies. Without it it´s very fizzy.

    Oh yeah, all of it.
    That present roundness and predictive attack are HUGE in a live band mix.
    That's for real life musicians, not clips.
    Imagine that fat cut in the mix.
    Killer man.

    • @eyedunno8462
      @eyedunno8462 Před 3 lety

      Bingo. It's hugely beneficial to have some hair and fizz to stand out in a mix. Most of that is probably due to the Strat's pickups and strident, bright maple neck - early pickups in particular were very hairy, trebly, kinda chaotic winding smoothed over with some Alnico III rods, called it a day. An uncompromising maple neck exacerbated this even more. One of history's happiest accidents that miraculously worked.
      A Dumble has been a historically composed, smooth, fat, juicy, sustain-y amp. There miiiight be some hair on this model as they too were inconsistent but I'd still argue that the Strat is the hairy beast being heard here all day long

    • @jaykafcas4342
      @jaykafcas4342 Před 3 lety

      Tbh, and 100's of thousands of dollars later.
      This amp and many others are not designed to sit in front of it and play.
      These are performance amps and the frequencies that seem raunchy or harsh
      are critical in a live band mix.
      Super killer man.
      Oh, you'll want them "artifacts" when the heat is on.
      Their also designed to the players touch &
      that might not be you.
      Sweet guitar playing btw!

    • @jamesemerson4102

      @@samroney6644 ODS amps like Robben's are not voiced for strats. Robben played a strat only for a very short time and all of the iconic ODS tones are with humbucker guitars. Find me one iconic tone that is a strat and an ODS. They always sound better with humbuckers man, and John mayer plays a steel string singer not an ods. Completely different circuit. The ods is a much stiffer, HI-FI clean. It's not that friendly to strats. I have an extremely accurate ods clone built with vintage transformers. They still sound okay with strats but humbuckers have always been where they shine. Larry carlton, robben etc. always play humbuckers or Tele's.
