This is an awesome, and very welcome surprise! I'd absolutely love it if you continued watching this - Angel has some of the absolute top-tier moments, episodes and arcs in the Buffyverse and it's so much more cinematic than Buffy. It has it's ups and downs of course, but so does every show, and I'd argue its quality stays much more consistent than Buffy (especially Buffy's later seasons, which I'm not really a fan of tbh) Buffy's great, don't get me wrong, and it's iconic for a reason, but I've always preferred Angel as a complete package. Angel's my favourite character for a reason lol Hoping you continue! ❤
I definitely liked Angel (and Cordy) more in this series. Angel’s character changed a ton for the better. Even as a huge Buffy-the-show fan, I prefer Angel as a series. And I lovvvvvve Doyle 😍
I loved this reaction. It is remarkable how different Angel is in this show, the first season he's similarly broody as Buffy but he gets better as he allows himself to connect with the world.
I ended up enjoying Angel (mostly Cordelia tbh) more than Buffy (although it definitely has its low points!) - would love to see you watch the series, I'm fairly sure it's 5 seasons, not 6 if that helps!
5, not 6 seasons. Yay! My old show. I was the writer's PA for S1&2. I have some fun stories. David Greenwalt co-created Angel and was the showrunner for S1-3. Charisma got screwed over after he left. David is one of the nicest people on the business, and I want to make that clear. Did you watch Lost/recognize Sawyer? Lost wasn't oit yet, so I had no idea who he was at the time. I wss on set that night, but I think I only hung out with the stunt people in the alleyway. The theme song was by Darling Violetta who appeared in Faith, Hope, Trick. I moved to KA the morning after that episode. Between that episode and this, the guitarist become a close friend. The story of how the series almost ended on filming day three in a follow up comment after my current delivery.
We were filming at "The Coffee Spot". We break for lunch. I'm with the Associate Producer RD and David Miller who did the S1 prosthetics (which is why they look different) and David Boreanaz, David Greenwalt and Joss Whedon come out and we're waiting fir the crew van to take us to base camp. Finally, they get tired and hop in a crew cab pickup and go. We're very concerned. "Luckily, no one from the studio is here." In the bed of the truck were gas pumps to gas up all the other vehicles. Imagine someone rear ending them. Boom. Show over. Almost Human did the Buffy prosthetics and had a TM on them, so we had to make our own design. Almost Human took over for S2. Tracey Middendorff (Tina) was gorgeous, and she seemed nice. gorgeous.
@@jessaandalexwatch There was a big filming gap between episode 1 & 2 which I can explain if you react to it. During which, they decided to move closer to the Buffy style, but it is still a little different until S2. I don't think I ever knew why they used someone different for S1.
I'd watch more for sure. I'll even go out on a limb and say that they managed to elevate this series around season 4, they evolved from monster of the week to a real continuous storyline and it has stuck with me.
EvilQK just dropped her series finale reaction to "Angel" so yeah - I'm up for another round! Like many shows, the first season is a little herky-jerky as it finds its legs, but it really does get as good as Buffy ever got.
As much as you enjoyed the first episode, this is one of those shows I found does get better as it goes. And Angel himself is a fleshed out character/personality rather than the 'heartthrob dark brooding boyfriend' cliche. Its great, I always enjoyed it a little more than Buffy itself.
I love Angel! I honestly prefer it to Buffy because of the characters and the long over-arching plots. Oooh also - it would be amazing if you would check out The Wheel of Time tv show on the channel, I think you both would dig it!
Angel is the better show, which is surprising considering how good Buffy was when it started off. It's too bad that Whedon turned out to be who he is because that from 97-05 with Buffy, Angel, & Firefly is about as good as it gets. I'm also interested in what you're considering for May. It's maybe the least interesting month of upcoming TV for me. All I've got is 1 show on Peacock (The Tattooist of Auschwitz) and 2 on Apple TV+ (Dark Matter, Trying season 4).
Welcome to the other part of The Buffyverse. Give it time it's a brilliant show. This was a strong opener Angel as a character has so much more depth in this. Great to see Cordy too, and along with Doyle a great trio in the early days. Great crossover episodes and plotlines too with BTVS. If you keep to the watch order it will make a bit more sense. Enjoy the show, IMHO the very best episodes of Angel are easily a match for BTVS and many surpass it. Enjoy the show, you will love it. Good Luck.
Christian Kane, who plays the attorney Lindsey McDonald at Wolfram & Heart that always represents the monsters leagal interests, went on to play Elliott Spencer on Leverage. I watched Leverage for an entire season with that itch in my brain that I knew him from something before I figured it out.
If you're just going to watch the pilot - or preferably the whole first season - Heroes S1 was such a good start to the show. Too bad then never made any more after that....
Angel is both darker and also somehow more campy than Buffy. I have no idea how they pulled it off, but it works! I also have this theme song as one of my ringtones!
Big Angel fan here. I have to admit there are some episodes that are lows, but the highs are really good. Also, you may not have noticed - that first vampire at the beginning was Josh Holloway from Lost!
I would love an Angel watch. My favorite Buffy streamer is skipping it and this would make me happy. Angel is a weirder show than Buffy. It also has a 5th season episode that still upsets/haunts me to this day.
I binged Angel a few years ago and enjoyed it for the most part. The first season takes time to find its footing, and there's a lot of egregious Whedon-ism that happen as they go along, but on the whole it's a fun watch.
Great show! Other shows that would be great to react to 23:43 if you haven’t seen them: One Piece (Live Action) The Good Place Blue Eye Samurai Orphan Black The Boys (and Gen V after season 3) Firefly
Love Angel. Although he himself wasn’t my favorite character even in this show 😂. But definitely prefer him over here in his own show. My favorite Angel characters are Cordy, Fred & Wes.
It would be nice to get your point of view on the ... 'interesting' later Cordy years. But it's a lot of work, tons of episodes and lots of filler. I can see it going either way. I hope you'll consider reacting to Fallout, even if you've never played the games (especially if you've never played.) It's only 8 eps, though Amazon Prime really shot themselves in the foot by releasing them all at once, they could have had massive buzz if they did it weekly. Anyway...
‘Starting in with the camp early’ oh you two have no idea!
So glad you’ve started Angel!
I always enjoyed this series. Would love to see you react to more!

I'd love more Angel. I haven't watched the show in years and years and it would be neat to experience it with you guys (in bite size form).
I definitely liked Angel (and Cordy) more in this series. Angel’s character changed a ton for the better. Even as a huge Buffy-the-show fan, I prefer Angel as a series. And I lovvvvvve Doyle 😍
I had the same worries about Angel being too serious and moody because of his portrayal in Buffy, so glad I gave it a chance and you are too
Yes, please watch Angel !!!! Also, I recommend rewatching the crossover episodes with Buffy as you get to those arcs :-)
I loved this reaction. It is remarkable how different Angel is in this show, the first season he's similarly broody as Buffy but he gets better as he allows himself to connect with the world.

Watching the two of you react to this is going to be so much fun.
Yes! Please more Angel!

Oh that’s really interesting! We were wondering about the prosthetics looking different.

I had thought I sent a link. The sound is now good.

Absolutely would love to see you watch this. Your banter is always great.

Whedon also got major props for The Avengers.

omg im excited for this! the show gets a little bit slow during the 2nd half of season 1 but it gets so much better in the later seasons
Angel is both darker and also somehow more campy than Buffy. I have no idea how they pulled it off, but it works! I also have this theme song as one of my ringtones!
Big Angel fan here. I have to admit there are some episodes that are lows, but the highs are really good.

I thought that was him!!! But I second guessed myself and cut it from the reaction 😂😂
More Angel episodes please!!!
THE BEAR needs to be the next series! lol
Angel does have a different vibe than Buffy, and he gets to be more 3 dimensional
But can we talk about the theme song? It bangs
6:14 That worked for me. I think it was only after Angel S3 that I went back to watch the Buffy reruns and catch up before it was over.
I would love an Angel watch. My favorite Buffy streamer is skipping it and this would make me happy.
Angel is a weirder show than Buffy. It also has a 5th season episode that still upsets/haunts me to this day.
I hope you keep doing Angel reactions. I'd also like to see you add Twin Peaks to the agenda...
I binged Angel a few years ago and enjoyed it for the most part. The first season takes time to find its footing, and there's a lot of egregious Whedon-ism that happen as they go along, but on the whole it's a fun watch.
Yeah, I really grew to love Angel Jenkins on his own show over when he wasn't fawning over Buffay
Great reaction, thanks. Have you thought about doing "GRIMM?"
I always liked the passion of the nerd CZcamsr theory that it wasn't the sex but laying next to the person he loved that cause the curse
Love that channel and their analysis
Great show!
Other shows that would be great to react to 23:43 if you haven’t seen them:
One Piece (Live Action)
The Good Place
Blue Eye Samurai
Orphan Black
The Boys (and Gen V after season 3)
Firefly
SHOGUN!
Oh yeah I never liked Angel on Buffy until after I'd seen Angel lol
Angel and Cordelia shine on Angel: the Series.
Would love if you guys could react to the Season 3 Bridgerton trailer!
Love Angel. Although he himself wasn’t my favorite character even in this show 😂. But definitely prefer him over here in his own show. My favorite Angel characters are Cordy, Fred & Wes.
I mean this is kind of a spoiler, if they were to watch more.
