  • Cover of Lament of Orpheus from the game Hades by Supergiant Games.
    If you don't own #Hades, you should definitely get it! The art and music are incredible, as per usual for Supergiant Games.
    Although re-harmonized a bit to make it work for solo voice and fingerstyle guitar (...my original intent, before it spiraled out of control), chords for my arrangement can be found here:

    Oh my goodness, this is so great! I'm really liking your own take on this, it's not just a copy of Korb. If I could offer one suggestion as a fellow musician, one of my favorite parts of the original is the crescendo within the chorus the "don't look back", it makes it more haunting and stresses the importance of that line. I understand how hard this can be especially with falsetto! This is not an easy song. Otherwise, the harmonies added and the main voice line along with the softness of the guitar were fantastic!!

    • @ScottPenick
      @ScottPenick  Před 4 lety +23

      Thank you, I appreciate the feedback! I agree with you that the emotional gutpunch from the original's climax is awesome. I felt like my cover was a bit too much of a copy of the original (still feel that way, actually...), so one thing I decided to change was the tone of the ending from a powerful 'despair' to a powerless 'hopelessness'. It's definitely a much less satisfying ending, but I'm a sucker for that kind of thing for some reason.

    wow!!! i've recently listened to Hades full soundtrack and Lament of Orpheus is my favourite ost. i've been searching high and low for covers and yours is the best, definitely, without a shadow of doubt, on par with Darren Korb's!!! i love the harmonies, you sound positively angelic/siren-like and i SWEAR i can hear a bit of Ashley Barrett's distant harmony in the cover. it's beautiful. i also like what you did with the ending, it sounds different from Darren Korb's, another flavour of anguish, and i love it

    • @Seleuce
      @Seleuce Před 2 lety +1

      3 or 4 octaves above your speaking voice?????? Are you kidding me? Assuming you are a natural baritone or a tenor you must be a Coloratura Soprano then! Also assuming that you can sing lower than your natural speaking voice that would give you a 5 octave range. Most trained opera singers have a range around 2 - 2,5 octaves. ;)
      Freddie Mercury had a rare 4-octave vocal range. You probably mean 3-4 TONES.

    I can sometimes hear the metallic noise of autotuning in the voice. But other than that, it is excellent! This is what any self-respecting remix should be: have its own identity and strengths. Otherwise it is just another person performing the same song exactly the same, but not quite as good.

      On a practical level - particularly if you are focussing on your music as means of income, even just networking or having a studio that is likely to go on to do more awesome things in the future see your ability and passion and keep you in mind for the future would be a great thing no? My understanding is that they have one or two people who they’ve worked with several times who have done a lot of the music and as the studio has gotten a ton of accolades for Hades, any potential expansion or further games could no doubt use someone like you with your talents who’d be a passionate collaborator.
      I personally love the Way Celeste composer Lena Raine involved and gave a new audience to several of her composer friends/colleagues when she asked them to remix her brilliant compositions for the B-side tracks of Celeste - And they responded by matching her brilliance with their own

    • @ScottPenick
      @ScottPenick  Před 3 lety

      Hurting? Hmmm... that doesn't seem good.
      For falsetto singing, I think it's important to have plenty of breath support from your diaphragm, and even from your chest to a small extent, but to keep your throat and vocal chords open and relaxed. If you strain your vocal chords, it could damage them and won't sound as nice as it would if they were relaxed.
