The fabric you used is most likely a handmade textile from south East Asia, my mother has nearly the same one that she was given as a blanket from her family in Pakistan. I do think you made a beautiful dress from it.
pakistan is south asia. south east is indonesia/thailand etc.
It's a phulkari
Its called baag in india…..
That’s a saree
@@dumbaawika that is a punjabi traditional embroidery just like fulkari nd we call this thing baag
That looks quite a lot like "Baagh" which is a traditional handicraft from the Punjab region, parts of which are in India and Pakistan both. I've seen similar embroidery on pieces handed down to my mom by her grandma. It really turned out stunning Jenna!!
It’s Phulkari
@@KirandeepKaur-pe3oz ya ! it's phulkari
Phulkari it is
Seems like phulkari to me
Phulkari is a dupatta. Hence it is always made on thinner fabric. This is a thick one so it is not a phulkari. It's meant to be used as a shawl or something else. But the embroidery is same for both.
My grandma was a teacher in Cambodia and Bangladesh and this fabric definitely looks like it could be from South Asia or Southeast Asia. Many of my grandma’s clothing from those places are made from the same material and have similar patterns as that fabric. Love it!!
Really??? That's great.i am From Bangladesh and yes i do agree her fabric is similar with what we have in our region...
I’m Cambodian hahaha
Jenna, the only thing missing from this dress is side pockets! Love the fabric and the dress turned out really well.
Yes I was about to comment this pockets would be amazing with this dress
Phulkari is actually the embroidery technique used here. It is done in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. It is a count thread embroidery (so basically you don't trace the motifs on the fabric and instead count the threads and accordingly embroider) and hence, it is always geometrical like that. It was traditionally done on Khaddar fabric (thicker - with very clearly visible yarn in the warp and weft) so that the counting of the threads is easier. Bagh is a kind of Phulkari technique - which is the most popular and what is done here.
These days, very few people actually still do traditional Khaddar Phulkari. Considering the commercial demands, lighter fabrics have become more popular. You'll see contemporary Phulkaris with traced motif if it is on say a chiffon or crepe or a lighter fabric like that because counting thread isn't possible.
This piece is a hand done Phulkari on Khaddar with silk or resham unspun yarn. It seems to be worn away in some places - testament to the fact that it is a vintage piece. WORTH SO MUCH AND TRULY A STEAL!!!
I would wear that dress in a minute. So pretty and the material is everything!
Adding the split changed this dress from night to day but vice versa. I love the fabric. My style is different so I would have added tulle to give it movement and side pockets. No matter my style choices you did an awesome job with the dress. Bravo.
When a fabric speaks to you, you get over the trials & errors in order to get it just right. The pleats and the slit give it the modern twist it needed and it came out beautifully. Good job!
every time jenna says: "i hope everyone is doing super dandy today" i'm automatically doing dandy
The dress looks absolutely fabulous! You are extremely talented!! I hope you bring lots of wear and love to the dress, and have a wonderful day 💙💙
Great job but i would have left it all one length and added side pockets.
Absolutely absolutely adore this. I'd wear that in a heartbeat. It's BEAUTIFUL
As a seamstress for decades, I think your dress is gorgeous! Keep up the good work. I was not allowed to date, so never made the prom, but I'm glad you did.
Why do you need to date a person to go to the prom? Not sure how it works in other countries in the wotld but don't think even half my prom had a date. Was a few. Was same with friends on other schools as well. And many just had a group of friends being the "date"
@@AnniCarlsson some parents think prom and dances are for dancing with boys so kind of like dating
@@35yoglenmckenna31 my aunt says it's speed dating😂
these videos are my comfort watch I always feel so creative afterwards 🥺
I really really like your sewing videos, I'm learning to sew and you explain things in a way that is so easy to understand, you don't use confusing words and you actually show what you're doing! And I love how you don't overcomplicate things. Thank you!
A healthy start of your day, Jenna! I love you!❤️❤️
You did a great job! My mom made my prom dress back in 2004, because we couldn't find any dresses long enough for me. It took her weeks and a lot of patience..
Your Mama loves you very much!
your one of my all time favs . I love how you do the whole process from sketch, drafting on the mannequin then making the pattern. it really helped me understand how to no only use mine but how to actually transfer my idea to paper and making a pattern !! great for beginners
omg that dress is fabulous!
Oh my goodness that material is so STUNNING! You made a gorgeous dress from the material and it's making me want to learn how to sew
You are incredible!! This was so fun to watch❤❤ And inspiring.. I have a constant creative itch and I start projects often, but something like sewing always seemed, well, too hard or unrealistic. I love seeing you go after something and look at what you made!! Incredible. ❤ Kudos to you
You don't give yourself enough credit!! It's very pretty and it looks like you spent a fortune at a boutique!!!💖💗
I was not here for the dress, I love your vibe here. So relaxed n in your zone, doing your own thing, happy just being you, doing this fun personal thing. Stay happy!!
Those colors are stunning on you! It’s gorgeous!
Wow--nice work! Love how you got the two diamond shapes perfectly centered on the bodice. Nicely done.
I also used to sew my own dress for special occasions, my wedding dress included. I love to see that I am not alone in this beautiful "craziness"
You did a marvelous job in this dress, looks gorgeous ! Thank you for being so generous Jenna in sharing your skills and talents with all of us and for the free patterns they are so helpful. ! 😊💗
It’s a perfect sundress or afternoon wedding guest! Pretty
You made a beautiful dress and it looks great on you! Hope you have fun wearing it out on the town.!
I love how your dog laid on it😂 my cat would too and I call him my little dog because he has a complete dog personality.
Perfect to wear to a summer/fall wedding, or brunch, or whatever because it looks great!
Absolutely love the dress! The fabric and the design are so pretty!
I would love that as a corset type top and a black tulle long skirt on the bottom of the dress. That is beautiful fabric.. maybe a matching bag. You are awesome. I think your designs and finished products always look excellent!
So pretty! I appreciate everything you do for your videos. They’re fun to watch!
That turned out gorgeous 😍 great job!!
Sooo pretty!!! I love the dress and the fabric!
This was really informative for me who also likes to skip steps because I might trust myself too much when sewing haha
What a great job Jenna, looks beautiful!
It turned out great!!! If you want the dress flowy-er you could add a translucent layer over the top that is slightly bigger.
That is a GORGEOUS dress, Jenna!!! You are one talented girl!
it's really cute and matches your style perfectly
anyway love u and keep on creating!
Ahh it turned out beautifully! The slit and mini-train were definitely the right choices - really ended up taking the dress up a notch, especially the slit!
The aura u give and the vibes are amazing
back of this dress is stunning omg. I love it.
i think this would've also looked so cute as a jumpsuit!
Love love love your channel! Thanks you’ve taken some of the mystery out of sewing!
This fabric is so cool! Love your vids
Love the dress and fabric also great placement of pattern on front of bodice!
Jenna. You are amazing! I wish I had half your talent. You are so patient and have a good sense of humor.
ive been really interested in making clothes for myself and this video was so helpful!!!
The fabric is so pretty and it turned out really nice. If I had that fabric I would have made some box shorts or trousers with a matching blazer,
you might like phulkari fabric from india ..it looks similar
Love you!! 😂
I am teaching myself how to sew through CZcams also!
I have learned a lot but there is so much it’s overwhelming!!
I came across yours today and you made me laugh along with your knowledge after having a bad day!!
Thank you!!
love the fabric. such a great find!
the back is definitely my favorite part too it's so gorgeous!!
This is absolutely amazingggg!✨😍😍❤
The material has a very late 1960s early 70s vibe to it so the slit modernized the feel. It looks beautiful on you.
The end result is stunninggg. It really looks good on you (heart).
The dress is fantastic. You are soooo talented!
That slit enhances the beautyyyy ❤️
You are so talented!! This dress is TOP TIER 🔥🔥🔥
omg u can wear it in autumn and summer! its so cute and the colors are amazing
It’s really beautiful. Such a great print.
Great dress. You're amazing 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. I on the other hand am absolutely hopeless I've tried so many times... but you've video has encouraged me to dust off my sewing machine and try again.
Jenna this is amazing! I wish I had that dress 💕
it is literally the cutest!
Beautiful work and the fabric is gorgeous. If you want the zipper to look completely nonexistent you could paint the zipper pull with nail polish that matches your fabric.
I love the fact you let the pup lay on the fabric. We stand the pet fam!!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻❤️
I am absolutely blown away! You are so talented!!!
omg i love it so much! it looks amazing! (also btw ur so inspiring!
I NEED that fabric... ugh. I love it.
Love it! Amazed with your talent.
I think you did a great job on the dress. Beautiful fabric and it looks wonderful on you! I love your videos. Thank you for sharing!
Aww that dress came out so so pretty! 👗💕✨
Beautiful job Jenna!❤️❤️❤️
I understand more from you than a year in fashion school in Italy. ☺️
I love it!
Looks professional
I love it sewing takes a lot of patience and trial and error I know by experience but u did so good!
I love it especially the colors
I recognise that cloth! It looks extremely similar to the Phulkari Embroidery that's done in India! (also not that I read the comments section it seems that a lot of people recognise it as similar styles as well haha)
That looked amazing especially the bodice love the pattern of it on top .. amazing idea... you rock making things out of different fabrics to that material wowed
Amazing job! Making me want to start sewing.
That dress looks pretty. I like the pattern of the fabric. And you do a massive, when you just put it together. And I'm a beginner, and I learn a lot from you, getting the cofeds too do for myself. And a basic skirt. In one day.
Wow Jenna it looks amazing!
It looks amazing on you!!!! Sooooooooo pretty 💗
The dress is gorgeous, I've subscribed, and I'm buying the butter cutters. I love this whole video, and I can't wait to watch more!!
loved this!!! also the sponsorship is so wholesome i want nice scissors so bad
That's the perfect fall fabric
another vid from the best human ever!!!!
I love this I love everything about it !:0
Love the dress and your process! not sure if it would go with the slit ... but I love pockets in fancy dresses... hands in pockets can slim the silhouette
Great fabric and l like the neckline too! Very brave cutting!
Re: candleholders...
I completely agree! I figure, why buy pattern weights when I have canned beans in my cupboard
Yes this is amazing and its super cute!!! I have a sewing machine but I forgot how to use it and wanna learn again cause I love dresses.
It's so pretty, looks pretty on you ❤❤
Love the dress! Great job!
THIS IS INCREDIBLY COOL
Omg you did such a good job
It's gorgeous. Slit was a great choice
I keep on thinking of a cut out triangle at the middle bottom of the top area. This looks so pretty 🥺🥺
I would love to see you make a pair of overalls in a fun pattern!
Wonderful works! Congratulations! God bless you!
