Just completed FFVIII for the first time since I played it over 15-16 years ago. The junction system was too much for my peon child brain. Anyway, this game is a masterpiece. I can't talk highly enough of disc one especially.

I wasn't saying it makes it harder, it's just not as "necessary" as other FF titles, as the enemy's level changes with yours and with them using wider range of magic as they get to higher levels.

People are coming for the music and his talent, not to play the game or watch it being played. FFVIII is a very flawed game but it has incredible music hence why I am here.

Michael L The 90s-mid 00s produced much better games (and a lot of things in entertainment) than what came after for the most part so this doesn't excuse FFVIII for being a very flawed game that was hard to enjoy at most points in time due to nearly poor everything. I played the game the first year it was out, got it for my birthday and it was actually my first FF game. It almost turned me off the entire series and RPGs as a whole. Everything that is ever made is flawed but not everything is as flawed as FFVIII to the point it becomes mostly unenjoyable. The only reason I eventually 100% FFVIII is because I am a huge FF fan and have to do it for each game. I would hate VIII more if it wasn't my first FF game. Sorry you can't handle the popular opinion that FFVIII's many flaws make it a bad game. I have beaten the entire main series and FFVIII is without a doubt a bottom 5 FF game. Meh.

lolwut dude, you sit there saying it's a bad game yet you give no solid examples. Is it because it was too hard? Was the story too complex? Do you think Squall is emo like all the other kids who never payed attention? idk what your reasons are since you didn't even explain one thing, you just typed out a large "this game is flawed and unenjoyable".
I've played through this game 3 times, once as a child, once as a teen and once not too long ago on steam. Each time I played I caught on to more of the story, more of the character, and better understood everything in it. It does have it's flaws yes, but for people to consider FFVIII bad, most of these people didn't even beat the game and just want something to complain about. To regard this game as bottom 5 is really an insultm especially since this game is much more enjoyable to play than some other ones out there. (looking at FF7 and FF9)

This is my favorite battle theme in all of ff8. When i Play dissidia as laguna i have to play this theme as the music. It just doesn't feel right to play any other theme.

Junctioning fire element to your attack in that area? Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the honour of witnessing a blind playthrough of a classic game. What a rare, unspoiled treasure in this time and age!
haselni Yea it is rare, tho from my experience with FF8, most of the time it isn't even really worth it to junction anything to elemental attack unless you are specifically hunting certain monsters. Even on my first play, it was too much of a hassle to rejunction the right element against a boss that just ran over you cause you effectively took one or more characters out of the equation due to a bad element junction. There are just so many other ways to completely demolish everything if you know how to use the junction system. Easily one of the most broken systems Square has come up with: FF8 is literally as hard or as easy as you make it.
Trent957 yep, usually I just optimize because that's usually enough, and I cant be bothered to manually set everything. until of course the end game: ultima on strength, drain to your weapon, and holy on your health, and you are unstoppable.
Trent957 Except for low level runs, which are without a doubt the easiest in FF8 compared to other FFs. So something that would intuitively make the game harder makes it almost easier instead.
Nowadays, it's still a mistery where that rope comes from... xD

Wow I've played through FFVIII like a dozen times back in the day, spent countless hours with triple triad and have done several no-level, no-gf, no-junction etc playthroughs and I sadly think that's the first time I've seen Laguna's limit break.. or it's just gone from memory

Its rather rare, the sections with laguna were short and easy, even i was like "WTF? these guys have limit breaks too?" when i found out in like my 999th run :P
