- The Riverview Metropolitan Area needs more highways! So today, we're embarking on a massive highway expansion by adding a new highway to run alongside the small river, with lots of complex segments, off and on-ramps, and new intersections! By the end, the city of Riverview is completely surrounded by thick highways, like any proper north American city ought to be! Hope you enjoy!

But you could have drained the whole river and used the riverbed for a sunk highway instead! Think of the destruction of natural resources you could've caused!
It wouldnt be that unrealistic. A lot of big cities have sunk their rivers into underground canals so they can build on top of them.
However the water simulation in this game is so hard to deal with it wouldnt be worth trying it.
But the name Riverview wouldn't make sense anymore, no ?
@@icy7851 this was not the main river

@@icy7851There are sooo many city names that don't make sense anymore, you have no idea. It's especially true in Europe, but somewhat true also for the US

main reason i dont install the game, this game reinforces my worst OCD tendencies, I can spend HOURS in one highway intersection
Gosh I hope Network Multitool mod that could control the slop of the nodes could also be in CS2 soon...
Suggestions:
- Tunnel segment for Northside
- Please remodel the intersection close to the airport. Even in the us that intersection would not be approved
- if possible: sound walls for the neighborhoods or lower the segments close to the riverbed
and could you swap out the trainstations for the new ones from the update?
Thanks again for your content!
Good idea
Infra intentionally made a terrible intersection. I think its funny, but could use an update.
Soundwalls can't go on bridge segments
@@theorixlux I know that he loves the challenge to make it work :D
Great ideas, he needs to see this! ❤️
Quick suggestion turn the intersection at the airport into an interchange. With a project this big the city would not approve of an at grade intersection, but upgrade to an interchange and connect the highways together.
Thanks for the suggestion, seems other share the same sentiment! :-D
I suggest the new river highway should connect straight into the highway with the big bridge that leads into East Riverview instead of the large intersection that is there now. Then build the interchange around that that leads to the airport and downtown. I believe when a major highway has an extra loop they add an extra number to the name so the new highway could be called I-125 but I’m not well versed in why that is. Tampa has a good example of this with i75 and i275.
There’s a whole naming convention for interstates, but you have the right idea. Adding a 2, 4 or 6 is typical for ring roads. CGP Grey has a great video on them if you’re curious
I-225
I love the Riverview Metropolis because not only it was large but also survive the Economy 2.0 update.
Decisions were made leading up to this monstrosity of a highway system.
We are a small, modest developer. This place is perfect for our tiny skyscraper. Why do we need a museum? We also have a fire brigade in this city, why do we need another one?
This city needs a transportation hub, so we are offering some space in our basement as long as the city covers the excavation costs. We will throw in some tuition for a few students (our children are going to university right now, so it's perfect timing ;)) Maybe a few city council members would like to go on holiday to our modest chain of hotels in sunny, beautiful coastal Coniferia?
Your small neighborhood developer

thank you for your votes!
god i love this build!
i think the most unrealistic part of it all is the fact that the entire waterfront isn't accessible but still nature. people just really like water :p.
also a thing that i think would be cool, is a big stature in the middle of the main roundabout into the city. just kind of feels like something belongs there.
CS2 makes it really hard to do that, but yeah having lots of waterfront parks and accesses is a very important part of the city.
Riverview Metropolis feels like New York and Chicago vibes and I love it❤❤❤
Which both also don’t lie primarily on a riverside
Riverview residents finally getting some freedom 🦅🦅🦅
You stood with CS2 from the start and it shows. Your city is aging and changing. With that, some really quirky, interesting elements are making it even more charming and fun to look at. Also, I always giggle at your quips regarding our aversion to mass transit and abundance of parking lots, among other things in the U.S. Best CS2 youtuber!
Somehow this looks like Google Earth images. Which is a compliment, it looks very realistic, very cool!
That highway over the river looks atrocious, and absolutely dystopic. An affront to this beautiful city.
Agreed
Perfect example of how american cities went to hell in the last 40 years. Not dystopic at all
@@NEKORID well, i live in europe :))))
Reminds me a bit of the elevated expressways from Project Japan - still some of my favorite vids on your channel.
PS - You could name this the 'River Parkway' or something, as parkways were originally made in the 20th century US as a 'leisurely route through nature', but have evolved to the modern day parkways that are often congested. Seems fitting for this build.
Aw man, your comment took me back. Thanks for the 6 years of subscribing champ!
And thanks for the suggestion - it's probably more fitting than River Drive which to me sounds more like a palm-lined california avenue :-D
72 minutes of highway building? This man infrastructures.
Overall great addition to the city! I think the intersection near the airport needs a bit of adjustment though. You could try to preserve the flat chaotic layout you had before whilst bridging River drive over top and 'downsizing' the current brute-force connection using less lanes as off-ramp. This way you get a continuous ring road on top which people can use to proceed straight on without stopping for an 8-way intersection, while the people needing to get into the city there could use a set of off-ramps to get onto the intersection.
1hr just simply pases while watching Infrastructurist, u dont even realise, oh shit video is about to end and there goes my hour, it all so smooth, soothing and enjoyable
in all of your videos you make some baffling choices that make me want to cry, but at the end it always looks AMAZING.
What you need in the city are shopping centers at major corners, that are anchored by a big box store ie Walmart Target. They are also known as strip malls
Take a look at the Riverside Expressway in Brisbane, Australia. It's a segment of the Pacific Motorway that runs entirely across the river, pass the downtown/CBD and completely destroyed the riverfront when built in the 70s/80s.
its ashame your cant make it an toll road for that extra capitalism,
👀👀👀
You gotta change up the intersection😭😭 it would be cool if you made some sort of spaghetti junction
as cool and interesting those monstrous infrastructure projects are: they always hurt my heart seeing the beautiful riverview beeing destroyed like this. Even though its of course the right thing for the theme you are going for...
Maybe in your next project we could try to build an actual "well designed" city? that manages traffic not by more highways but rather Public transit and good planning? and that works with and around the terrain to create beautiful and special places? (Like the scandinavian city just in big) ...would love to see this!
Always rush when I receive a riverview notification
frank ocean x cities skylines i always had a custom blonde radio in cs1 lmao
Same here 🤗
I feel like you should have took the Sao Paulo approach as in Marginal Tiete or Marginal Pinheiros, where both directions of the highway are split/separated by the river.
Uhh that sounds nice
Not until you smell the river while sitting in that abysmal traffic 😂
I-75 in Dayton does something similar and would probably be closer to the theme he seems to be going for, being American and all.
The use of satire in this one is perfect.
I think we missed some amazing opertunetys for graffiti spots under the River Drive!
and also maybe some tents where the not so fortunate have a place to call Home.
I was trying not to cry, while watching, it’s so cruel, but so true to north america and governments really destroyed houses and rivers to build tons of concrete.
Thanks for the episode!
25:07 disable also left turns because you have a ramp
Honestly I would like if u would have just drained the river and make a park/recreation area (like in Valencia), but the video is still a banger like every other video of yours
I loved seeing more pedestrian access in the new university, especially the elevated sections. More pedestrian bridges along the new River Drive and also maybe the occasional use of the pedestrian street! Thanks for the awesome content as always!
I love youre Riverview Project. For me it is one of the greatest Cities Skylines projects on CZcams. The fact that you are still building on your first city makes it even more special. Thanks mate for sharing :)
I shall not giveup typing
"Pls remove that highway "
Bro. You created a monstrosity and juiced it up with steroids. That egg-a-bout seems to need a Biffa intervention, lol.
As for the build in general, I love when you focus on infrastructure, although this time around I feel like the highway took a super unrealistic turn. All these elevated sections and bridges that snake from one side of the river to the other. I feel like your original idea of draining this river would make more sense, than the forest of pillars visible in some places. Still, the end result is good looking, thanks to your detailing skills. 😀
Very nice autoroutes !!! I like the crossing you made with the center of the 2 lines to make a double fence.
The more urbanization the more i and my Kindred are pleased.
Hi, I have a suggestion for you. Sometimes transit projects are built to "compensate" for the impact of the highway. In Riverview, you could build a small train station with a giant park&ride facility (because it's stil the highway company that pays for it) directly connected to the highway. This could for example be built by the Yard (on the unused tracks) and it could be called something like "Oldport P+R". And you could even extend the tram to serve it!
Why don’t you build keys on the riverside. Add more skyscrapers. Also if you see NYC you can see how the highway is levelled as it goes river,a step up highway, a step up houses. Think it would be a good idea as you also have a very steep slop down to the river bed.
I just want you to know that there have been a lot of tough times for me recently but that your videos have been a consistent source of calm and serenity with which to rest my mind for awhile. Thank you.
There's something about your cities that just makes them look so natural. I enjoy the hell out of your videos. The only issue is I watch them during work hours, so I can't just immediately jump on my computer and play. Awesome job, man!
What i do with funky sections of highway like that is find end points that are ok either side of the funky section, get them right, then delete the funky sections and redraw them, I find that to be the easiest and best way to do it. The slope tool on CS1 was great i cant wait till we have it on CS2. Im glad you managed to save the City after Eco2 changes. Love this build.
Why do you torture yourself with these wonderfully incredibly complex highway and offramp designs? 😆
Bad habit 😁😁
Absolutely amazing addition to Riverview ! It would be so cool to transform this river as the LA's artificial/concrete river !
Never thought I would hear "highways" and "aesthetics" in the same sentence.
I've found that it's a lot easier controlling ramps using manipulation mode as opposed to the standard mode. In regards to 19:00
Really enjoying your videos. I love that you have a positive attitude toward the decisions you make instead of doubting yourself. I always panic and get overwhelmed when something doesnt go exactly as planned ín my bigger cities and I tend to give up, but youve inspired me to be more positive about my planning decisions and not to be so self critical, and also inspired me to make more conscious decisions 'when selecting assets to make them fit the overall style of the city better. 'Will be subscribing to get more inspiration. Thank you!
I was amazed at how much traffic has improved. I want more development in education for the next episodes. Thanks! ❤
I would connect the new River Drive with Chestnut Highway in an elevated level, add below of the area where the Highway meet a extended round about for basically the entire island there, connect the atterial routes with the round about and create a bunch of on-off ramps. That would probably a bigger mess then now, but I would love to see :D
More offramps and on ramps please 😊
Yay! The glory of the Octopus Junction! Wonderful concrete ribbon extension to Riverview Infra. Super building.
My suggestion is to densify the Downtown Riverview even more - adding more skyscrapers and Lvl 5 High Density Residential alongside Madison Street should do the trick. Also I would love to see a bit more recreational areas along the river - maybe a hangout spot with some benches and other props (a food truck place?) could work.
14:57 Just for reference, in most of the EU, trucks have a height limit of 4m, and most are very close to that. Serious industrial loads can be much, much taller, but obviously don't go into the city center.
Dude. Simply magnificent and, what is important, realistic road and clearance layout. I can just imagine how it would be like driving along this in anything higher than a sedan and cursing the planner for the lights that were knocked off the roof. 🤣
your game runs so smooth, im jealous
Robert Moses is drooling all over this!
Highways..? They're not highways... they're Freedom roads made from pure Bravery, painted with Liberty, delivering broad stripes and bright stars to every neighbourhood they plough through. F yeah. Merica!
True true, my bad Matthew!
another video another fun time, im eventually gonna get the hardware to play this, but for now i have you!
Same
i needed this thank you infra
I think the Giga intersection 1:09:10 should become some sort of cloverleaf intersection like 1:09:50, the rest of the new highway looks fantastic👍
I think the giant interchange needs a lot of reworking. For example, the River Express could continue straight into Elm Highway / Cherry Highway as an elevated section, the other roads could intersect underneath, and there'd be a spaghetti of on/off ramps to connect everything up together. I think the current 7-way single-point interchange is pretty unrealistic.
since the release of this game, ive been watching from day 1, ive always found your videos relaxing and ive also always tried to emulate your building style!
Really nicely done!
I have another idea how to improve the traffic flow. How about connecting River Drive and Riverview Expressway directly and simply creating an off-ramp and on-ramp at the point where the two currently intersect? Then traffic could flow directly through and the traffic problem would be solved.
At the far end where you have the big messy junction with 2 highways going into it, i think for safety reasons the two highways should be connected with a bridge over the junction. Because clearly that area isnt messy enough yet
Great build. Always fun watching you create the most interesting road layouts. You should consider identifying the new highway with a interstate spur number. For example I-125, I-325, I-725, etc.
1:09:22 To be honest, I would completely overhaul the intersection there. Directly connect the two highways and add one or two on- and offramps there and it should be fine. Most traffic wants to continue driving on the highway anyway
You should make a short video on all your tips for achieving similar results in your cities on CSII, because whatever I do, I don't achieve the same results. My cities are just boring with crazy boring grids.
You should build cabins in the mountain like in tennessee
Any specific town in that state you're thinking of :-)?
@@Infrastructurist maybe gatlinburg
Northside needs a tunnel!
Some other areas could also benefit from tunnels.
Maybe you can get some Inspiration from Bostons "Big Dig" 😉
And the intersection at the airport should be replaced by an interchange
For the Messy Junction, please connect the River View Drive to the existing highway with an overpass, and build junctions for the roads below and connect them with on and off ramps to the highway. 🛣️🚗
"Nah I dont think kids and families would like to spend some time near river, build the highway right there."
This is genuinely common in America. I love Chicago’s lakefront but we also have an 8 lane highway along it. NYC famously has the FDR along the east of Manhattan. There are many other examples of this. The Twin Cities are somewhat of an exception for having so little of their highway infrastructure up against the river.
god, your planning and attention to details makes those cinematic intros look straight up like from google earth
For the first time Mr. Mayor, I don't understand why this build went ahead. Seems unnecessary in my opinion.....but let's wait and see.
Man...maybe you have to re-do the south interchange near the airport....is a Nightmare jajajaj.
But, I'm always impressed by your work. Congratulations 🤩
some of the "no pedestrian access" signs can be fixed by a small use of move it to wiggle them around. I understand that one of the updates causes the issue when some buildings reach level 3.
Also 3 letters to think about with the highway interchanges "DDI" Diverging diamond interchanges might help in some places if you can figure out how to implement it in game
I like the name the Riverview Bypass! Because it bypass going through the downtown, which had to be down previously to get towards the airport area from the Riverview expressway
Can I also suggest - that you put sound barriers on the Northside section of the road. I feel like the trendy residents here would have lobbied hard to get this infrastructure project cancelled. Might be a good opportunity to stick more graffiti on the barriers as well as the residents there did this in protest!
Crazy idea for the huge intersection... Mega roundabout. Not really American yet, but we are starting to add more and more stateside.
The River Bypass would be a good name!
I will say it that highway looks kinda of nice
Your videos are awesome! Really inspiring to build my cities.
I think you could implement an elevated metro system in Riverview.
Hello Infrastructurist!
I'm a big Fan since you started this series, and i'm enjoying every new Episode... You really made me fall in love with this game, even i'm not really playing it myself and i really hope this Series never comes to an end :D
I have a suggestion when it comes to Oldport... I just seen a Video from another cs2 CZcamsr and he did a really good job in detailing an Old trainyard & i feel like it could look good if you work some magic :)
You should say in the lore of the new highway they contracted the Japanese to make this highway.
It has that Japanese multi stack highway vibes. Especially how a lot of the time Japanese multi stack highways are built along side rivers too.
I think you should reconsider the interchange near the airport and use tunnels. I don’t think the idea of Riverview not having the budget for it really makes any sense now. Especially when the I-25 has three on/off ramps probably 500m apart just to access North Port.
favorite youtuber right now 💯
On and off Ramps sharing a lane causes weaving which is why you usually want a gap where the lane disappears.
Random, messy intersections often contribute to the realistic feel and vibe of the city. But that (1:09:10) 7-way monstrosity of an intersection could be improved. It should be turned into an engineering wonder or something functional. It’s likely meant to be in a spot where many major and minor roads intersect, but a unique and interesting design would be ideal if possible.
one of my favorite youtube channels at the moment. thank you for making these videos
Another cool addition would be is some kind of dark decale to place under the river to make it more kind of muddy and polluted looking like it would look in real life as there is no way that the water would look this cristal clear and blue in the middle of the city covered under the highway 😁
One thing I get from your serie : nightmare intersections 😂 otherwise cool
Was watching this while doing Chemistry HW, and bro you were stressin me out at 23:00
Cedar street should’ve been the location for the last on/off ramp. It would’ve made it easier to enter downtown and it would’ve spread the on/off ramp more evenly
the people of riverview must be going crazy due to the lack of big box stores and malls. (there is at least one quite good big signature building of a large supermarket)
The express way should be called "Riverside drive" because it's on the side of the river and it has a really nice ring to it :) (ps. I love these videos and have been binging you lately)
I would connect Riverview Drive to another highway and turn airport monstrosity intersection into dumbbell/peanut interchange where freeway is sunken and peanut roundabout lays top surface. Elevated traintracks complicates things, but it could work with sunken freeway. I think peanut roundabout is best option because the amount of the ramps and roads. First I was thinking triple roundabout but agents still doesn't know how to drive in roundabouts and could add more queue and traffic blocks.
Suggestion for a future project: Create a riverwalk along the riverfront in either Riverview, East Riverview, or Chelsea. I'm imagining something similar to the Chicago riverwalk.
Love these long projects :)
