    I saw this in the last episode, and at 0:46 of this video, it's confirmed that there are a lot of trucks using the highways. After addressing mass transit, cargo should be next to solve the city's traffic jams.
    Edit: The sims are jaywalking since no pedestrian lanes are close enough to the transport hub. You should build an overpass to provide better access for pedestrians. Also, the crossing at the entrance of the tram/bus lane leading to the roundabout causes buses to wait for people to cross. It's causing a bit of traffic, especially when a tram is waiting at the stop.

    • @Everie
      @Everie Před 29 dny

      @@who_is_artistrains and "cargo highways" (in brackets because it's not a real thing), are a great beginning.
      The cargo highway consists on lanes that take traffic more directly to the city, but with lower maintainence and costs

    • @joshuacaalim
      @joshuacaalim Před 28 dny +1

      @@who_is_artisI don't know if the game functions the same way as in real life, but separating cargo from passenger railways will lead to fewer backlogs. I've seen CItyPlannerPlays implement it in his city, but it's much less denser compared to Riverview. So space might be an issue when implementing it on this map.

    I love the public transport updates, but I'm seeing a few issues with the new transport hub.
    1. The crosswalk directly at the roundabout. It shouldn't be there. It's holding up so much of the incoming trams and busses, and instantly creates a gridlock on the roundabout. Your transport hub should have an incoming "buffer", where busses and trams can just enter and be out of the way.
    2. That same street (birdsong street) should really be a 4-laner, so that busses can pass stopped trams.
    3. IMO, your entire hub should really be 1-way. A good way to do this would be to add another lane/off ramp to Riverview Expressway, leaving the city, public transport only. This would then turn into the Cypress Street/Dean street intersection, instead of coming from the non-bus-only Cypress Street. Then all roads are 1-way towards Poplar Street, with the option of using the curve to go back to the roundabout. This would create a free and clear entrypoint to the hub, and keep everything flowing nicely.
    4. As an alternative to the above, you could move the off ramp to Sycamore street and pass underneath the Riverview Expressway. Probably a lot less fiddly and less tight curves. I'm not sure if the on-ramp from Cypress Street could remain though, but I don't think that's useful anymore anyway.
    5. The entire thing would probably benefit from raised pedestrian crossings, but I'm not sure those even exist in-game yet.
    Although it does look very American at this point, meaning inefficient, an afterthought and weird, I do love efficient public transport hubs, so I couldn't resist leaving these suggestions. As always, do whatever you want with them.

    Having built many custom bus stations through the years, I can easily say, this is not gonna hold up in court.
    You have way too many roads in and out of the area and you need several more parallel roads for those busstops.
    You should also look into why there are so many pedestrians walking away from the train station, at 38:24. It doesn't seem right. There's a mod, you can use for that. It's called Cim Path Highlighter or something like that.

    It's quite the realistic American city when it comes to the absence of public transportation, haha! I suppose investing more in subways and implementing local bus routes to connect with the metro area would be a wise move. It's astonishing that there are only five bus lines serving a population of nearly 100,000 people. So, that's not about putting hubs, but placing more lines and covering more areas with public transportation. The lines are really extensive, maybe simplifying the bus routes and adding more terminals for connections could help.

    First I think it makes sense to use pedestrian bridges.
    And I would rotate the new hotel to the non-bus street, so there is less regular traffic on the bus lanes. And last I would change Sycamore street, there is no more need for the left turnings to the hub for regular traffic (if you want use Poplar Street as bus lane either) - otherwise you change Poplar street to a regular street, and use them as easy access for regular traffic to the train station.
    Great video, I like your ideas to look your city interesting! 😊

    Infra, you made my day! Thank you very much for the opportunity to suggest and I’m so grateful that could provide some input on this topic! The bus hub looks awesome, better than I visioned😊
    Few tweaks: seems like this roundabout doesn’t work at all…
    There might be needed some pedestrian traffic lights in the hub, so that buses can have right of way
    There is no need jn left turn from Sycamore to Poplar
    I still think that it might be a good idea to make the road that goes from the hub underneath the bridge to north side of the city bidirectional with bus only lanes coming towards the hub. This would allow for better integrity with the city and ease of use for intraregion buses
    Not sure about tram stop being on the road that leads into the hub, this might create congestions when lines added
    Agree on the subway, commuter rail makes more sense
    And decorations look perfect!
    Thanks a lot for your efforts 😊 waiting for new episodes!

    Maybe you should create a downtown loop to shuttle people between the hub and the city, you can use a tram and maybe even offer other connection points via the tram loop. It would probably help the simulation and the oversaturated yellow bus! Or alternatively you could have a day time express bus that is just an express version of the yellow line! It would be pretty cool to see you have a day and night bus route like most cities have!

    Maybe consider implementing a premetro/light rail using trams but with extended grade separation. There could a a single corridor extending from downtown (where it would run on the streets) to some purpose built suburbs. To make it extra Am🦅rican you can put a lot of park&rides around the stations.

    Lovely work, really entertaining to watch. And I really appreciate your desire to not go crazy into an expensive subways/metro system. North American cities are usually always short on money so it's nice you're avoiding the CS2 trap of just building a huge metro.
    Quick thoughts:
    - Those huge crowds waiting for the bus are an unrealistic eyesore. Maybe seeing their destinations can help you focus on adding some bus lines that avoid downtown and maybe reduce the crowding at once or two spots. I get the feeling there would be good demand for an uncomplicated straight route between the airport and the big industrial port that skips downtown entirely. Something that maybe crosses perpendicular to another bus route so people can transfer without using that crowded downtown hub.
    - Are there any other train stations that can take some of the burden off of Central station with some bus line connections?
    - Would you be willing to change some downtown roads to one-ways? It's fairly common in the NA cities I've been in to have some alternating one ways downtown to make use of the limited road space.

    Hey when we ask for a metro, I completely agree it's not fun to have it underground, but yeah get inspired by sort of like many American subway systems (except like NYC and DC) : a bad metro, with like a single line or maybe two lines with a central station, and that are both part overground. That way you get to make custom subway stations, along with seeing still buzy streets but add some cool metro lines going through. Plus it is definitely an infrastructure challenge for a city that is already well built up. There could also be light rail metro using the tram system like in some north American cities (I think Toronto but I'm not sure).

    Couple of feedbacks:
    1. The cinematics and gameplay itself would benefit from a first-person camera - it's in the mods, I've been using it for a while now, it gives a completely new perspective and made me understand my cities better.
    2. The crossings could use some lights, especially those in the middle of Dean and Cypress streets.
    3. I'd remove the crossings along and across Poplar Street - if you look at the screen at 43:41 - you can see that there is an easier way to move along that street without risking getting mulched by a bus, on the left side of the road :D
    4. The small segment of Sycamore Street (parallel to Birdsong Street, only that segment) should have the bus line removed since there is no use for it as of now.
    5. Maybe there could be an overpass from the station to Sycamore Street so that people can get through the bus station without taking 3 crossings.
    6. Also, didn't test it myself, but is it possible to add a bus lane to the roundabout?

  • @annegutentag124
    @annegutentag124 Před 27 dny +1

    Very minor detail, but if you move the bus stops to the end of the assigned little lane it makes, more busses and people fit, as the bus stops exactly where the stop is. Therefore, right now only half the actual stop-lane is being used

    Paris has mostly undeground metro. Line 2&6 are mostly "airline". Line 1 was extended to "La défense" by adding the metro lane on the bridge, in the middle. They extended the bridge while the traffic was still going. (Trust me, you don't want that bridge closed). I have seen metro system being mostly overground, which is insane to me, i'm so used to underground metro system.
    Rennes, another french city, has only 2 lines.
    Wiki: "The Rennes Metro is a light metro system serving the city of Rennes in Brittany, France. Opened on March 15, 2002, it made Rennes the smallest city in the world to have a metro system from 2002 to 2008. Currently the system contains two lines, Line A and B. It has 28 stations and stretches 23.5 kilometres, with the majority of its route underground."
    So my view for riverview: get one or 2 underground stations in downtown, and add stations only at the end of the map. And give them bridges to allow some rivers views.

    Every time I see a C:S2 video I thank the stars that I didn't buy the game that Paradox gad a hand in working on. So long after its release and nothing seems to have changed. Nothing wrong with the creator of course, really nice guy, it's just that everything that I loved in Cities 1 just isn't in Cities 2 and I refuse to use something that is not the steam workshop for mods

    I think the way to go is building an above ground metro since this is a northeastern inspired city and above ground metro wouldn’t be too easy it would still come with difficult difficulties with implementing

  • @pellekuipers4076

    I think it would also be fun to consider a tunnel for the Riverview expressway-Sycamore corridor so the roundabout would be relieved from the through traffic intersecting with the SunnySide ave-Station traffic. It could probably go underground just before the roundabout and come up at the height of the park. The above street could then be redesigned for pedestrians with a single lane for cars and a separated bus/tram track. Or maybe that would be too much for the more conservative city council

    Oh the Traffic Manager Mod is now out (tho its currently limited to only managing Traffic Lanes, aka Line connector tool)... so you should install it and do some line adjustments around the city to hopefully make the congestion a bit better

    Great video as always. I would suggest you expand your freeway network as almost every city in NA has a freeway cutting through the downtown(usually elevated) and suburbs. You could also make use of the stacked road feature to save up space.

    Man you need to check your blue tram line you put at the new hub. I'm fairly certain it circles itself. The line shows 2 arrows travelling on the same side. My understanding is that means the route travels the same path 2 times, I think you grabbed a stop from the wrong spot at some point. Hope this helps!

      ooh, maybe add a fancy pedestrian bridge over that main roundabout? In the cinematics you can see peds crossing and holding up traffic, that's such a key infrastructure node lets got those people out of traffic's way!

    I agree, it would not be realistic for a medium size city to have a full underground metro system ! We need a new tram line connecting East Rverview - Chealsea - East port - Dowtown Riverview through the central station ! I think a bus line should start in Chelsea (where the tram passes) and go all the way to north port by going through birdsone glade. I also think that the city lacks public housing, maybe you should create a sort of sensitive urban zone in Ranklin Crossing.

  • @highground66
    @highground66 Před 29 dny

    You should add some stops around the roundabout next to the hub as well so as the citizens dont have to walk there all the time through millions of crossings

    The ped-crossing at the roundabout entrance is completely unnessesary and is causing traffic flow issues. you could remove it and the ped sidewalks inside your tram stop could serve the same purpose

    Maybe you could delete the crossings across the main streets, especially in front of the station where the problems are enormous, and replace them with an overpass. You maybe could also build some kind of "skywalk" above the street for pedestrians on some sections to solve the pedestrian issues

    Great video. Agreed on no metro! But make more underground/bridged pedestrian crossings, those are common in busy areas. There should be a pedestrian tunnel below the large roundabout, for example. Or are they not possible to make?
    I'm also curious about effect of ticket prices on transport usage. Perhaps that's a way of making these crowds more manageable without unrealistic levels of bus stop spam? Or do they have no effect?

  • @goldenrambeler

    u could use a part elevated, part underground metro. an elevated one over a busy avenue might be cool looking if you pull it off. obviously pic and choose where in the city it is elevated and underground. Elevated near busy or industry/port might look cool

    For doing a metro you can do one in the style like in new york with a lot of above ground parts and I supose it will look very well with your city, but if you dont want a metro you should use more trams cuz they have way more capacity then busses so you could use trams like a sort of metro

  • @briannem.6787
    @briannem.6787 Před 28 dny

    Maybe for the roundabout you can change it so as the highway would not terminate at the roundabout but rather go underground and bypass the city to another highway node? I feel that a lot of cargo and private vehicles go through the city to a destination that is otherwise far from the roundabout terminus.

  • @cezarnica1677

    About the illegal crossing on the roads, or the illegal bus lane traffic they are just a little bit crazy, regarding the jaywalkers I've seen that giving them alternatives fixes it. But it has to be on the exact segment they want to cross, like a bridge or underpass. It's a bit of a bug don't think they're on purpose.

  • @captainmat111
    @captainmat111 Před 27 dny

    The reason the cars are using the bus lines is because the access points to the bus terminal and train station are very limited. You could add a roundabout and a road leading to the main road from the ramp to the highway.
