Kimberly Madume try imagining you have tiny bit of tissue in between your lips and you are pushing it out very quickly with your tongue and to get a hire sound tighten you lips a bit.Hope this helped !
Paul Kim to play higher notes it's good to focus on getter a good and fast air stream. that is the most important part. slightly closing the hole between your lips should help with getting faster air. and playing a lot and getting comfortable with your instrument will help too
How do you know what size mouthpiece to get? Music is one of my hobbies. Last year I bought a trumpet at an antique store (I'm restoring it). The mouthpiece it came with is too small(slightly smaller than the one in this video). I'm now restoring the Trumpet for my cousin. I found out, I can't play a brass instrument because, a small old scar on the center of my lip prevents me from "buzzing" correctly. So, I got & now play a Bb Clarinet & I want my 13-year-old Cousin to have the trumpet.
You have a great voice. Thanks for the tip. I have been buzzing with my mouthpiece with no goal in mind. Now with your advice I have a better idea what to shoot for 😁
I have one question. For years I have played the trumpet with incorrect mouthpiece placement so that my lips were not tight. I have been able to do most things a player should be able to do. I cannot manage to get a good tone out of the trumpet if I do it the correct way. Do you have any advice that would be helpful?
How to build endurance? I've started learning the trumpet late in life. It's been slowing going, but I'm making progress. Since the embouchure is very muscular, would it be better to practice for shorter periods of time, but practice a couple of times a day? Maybe adding five minutes to each session, just like you would add five lbs when you're doing strength training with barbells as my endurance improves?
David D'Arcy Hello! I've been playing trumpet for a couples of years now and what I've found that works best is to just practice when you have free time. The more the better, but as you go along you'll feel your embouchure and jaw may start to feel tired, when you get to that point, that is when you want to try to push for 5 extra minutes. Remember, as you go along, you can practice too much, and that'll cause your lip to swell for a day or two and you might not sound as clear. So make sure you give yourself a couple hours rest before you pick up the horn again. If you're just starting, or have started recently, you may want to just try to get your sessions to about 15-20 minutes, that may be pushing it, but it'll be a little bit of a push but if you can't do that quite yet, just go as long as until you feel tired, then add 5 minutes. As you go along and you feel your muscles starting to build and you get tired not as quickly, start to add 5 or 10 minutes to your practice sessions and you'll be good to go. Trumpet is a great hobby and could even do you good in some career paths, you may not go along as you may like, but don't give up, it's worth it 😊👍
Lin Try firming up the corners of your lips and blowing faster air, not necessarily more, if you're still having some trouble some players raise their eyebrows for higher notes, I myself don't have much successful with this, but it could just be me
I thought I had bad embouchure because people would say that having your trumpet too low was a bad thing and so I thought that mine was too low but then I noticed that we hold the trumpet at around the same height
i'd rather do the pencil exercise or the Cat Anderson whisper g for building chops and endurance. Basing your sound from your brain to your mouthpiece seems to give a very manufactured sound, the vibration should come from the amplification of the horn not from the mouthpiece alone.
Sir...plz tell me.. I will Preparing for Army Musician Trails....Now I like Bugle Instrument....Plz Tell me Sir....how many Days it's learning for me....plz ..sir...
I'm beginning to think that the trumpet and all brass instruments are some form of black arts, that you have to sacrifice your soul to Satan in order to master them.
I'm going to have my first ever concert tomorrow!!!!!!!! And my sister will help record it so it will be on my channel tomorrow night!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!
Fred Bloggs Really any combination of notes make a different pitched siren. Those two specifically make those two sounds and the notes near them I would say too, even though they might make slightly different sounds I group them together. The higher you go, the more it sounds like a high pitched bee and the lower your notes the more it sounds like a slow moving fan or maybe even a bus/truck in a way, it's hard to describe (for me at least). Just remember that the basic embouchure rules apply while just using the mouthpiece as well
Fred Bloggs Yup, you have the Dah, Dee, Doo, Taa, Tee, Too, Daat, Taat, and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more. 😊
I play the trumpet in Middle School Band. I like playing it but, I was problems playing it. I don't know if it's my trumpet, (my trumpet is old and has more spit than it should) or I'm not playing it right. I blowing air, but nothing.
Buzzing is the complete opposite of what you should do to improve your sound. You said trumpet playing was very "muscular" and "physical." I believe that this statement is false. Trumpet playing is 95% mental and 5% physical. You should never buzz because this can completely decimate your sound. The buzzing of the lips is not the way that a person produces sound on the instrument. The air molecules that are already inside the trumpet must be energized by the standing wave, as it is called. This standing wave vibrates the molecules and it produces the sound on the instrument. My lesson teacher told me that there is a lot of controversy in the trumpet world on how to create a sound. This is very true. Most people think that buzzing the lips is the actual way of producing sound. This is statement is completely false. There is even video proof of a man playing the Haydn concerto with a "lip camera" that is on the inside of the instrument. This shows the man playing, and while he is playing his lips are not vibrating. The air stream is passing through the man's lips and his lips are not touching at all. The video that I just described completely disproves the theory of the "buzz" being the way to produce a sound. Anyway, I am commenting on this because I have seen beginner trumpet players' sounds being destroyed because of weeks of buzzing the mouthpiece. I also know of advanced players who have done this and their sound has been totally annihilated because of buzzing. My lesson teacher told me the story of a girl he knew who buzzed and was very precise on the physical aspects of the trumpet. This destroyed her sound and she was never able to get it back. These are only my thoughts on the subject of how to make sound and how the trumpet works. You may not believe this philosophy, but I am just sharing my thoughts on how I think the trumpet works. Have a wonderful day.
I think your lesson teacher was right. Except sound happen when the player's lips come in contact with the standing waves in the instrument. These waves are generated when acoustic energy is sent back by the instrument's bell.
You shouldn't be buzzing it makes your tone sound bad it should just be warm air quickly moving through the mouthpiece. Buzzing hurts your lips in the long run.
try blowing in your mouthpiece without buzzing and slowly move your trumpet onto the mouthpiece while still blowing, keep your corners just dont buzz, you make better tone then when you buzz. the trumpet will vibrate for you, you dont have to vibrate it.
If your into this go talk to a professor of high brass like i did, he should be cool stuff that didn't involve you buzzing, you blow and then the trumpet buzzes.
Oh I wish I could show you, its super cool. I thought the same thing until I had a lesson with a professor of high brass, he showed me crazy things you can do with a trumpet and its amazing.
For everyone saying they sound like trash, just focus and take your time.
