      FYI, from the Mopar service manual, these are the torque settings for reinstalling the multiair unit.
      Step 1: All to 10 N·m
      (89 in. lbs.).
       Step 2: All to 22 N·m (16 ft. lbs.).
       Step 3: All again to 22 N·m (16 ft. lbs.).
      Check the service manual doc I put together here : drive.google.com/file/d/1maU2UOBwCDsXzq_Ei-4lntsVsC-v_XC4/view?usp=drivesdk

    To bleed that system you need to use a syringe and put oil into the small hole with the ball bearing. I worked at fiat and we always had this issue when the cars sat for too long without being run.

  • @xNYCMarc
    @xNYCMarc Před 4 lety +2

    FYI: You don't need to "prime" the system to prevent a dry start. If there isn't enough oil in the Multi-air, the intake valves won't open and the engine obviously won't start until enough oil reaches the top for the intake valves to start opening.

    Nice little mod, makes sense to stiffen the springs and I can see why at higher revs the stiffer springs will help to follow the cam lobe more precisely with less 'bounce' and float.
    Just wondering if I have a similar setup on my Fiat Panda 0.9 Twinair turbo? Mines only a twin cylinder producing 85bhp stock, so even a slight gain would be of great benefit, I know it can be easily mapped to around 100bhp.
    Don't laugh lol these are big figures for my little Panda 4x4 875cc 💥😁😊⚠️

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524 Před 2 lety +2

      @@firstbloood1 You might find more info on tuning the twinair engine searching for Alfa Romeo Mito or the Fiat 500 twinair both use the twinair engine but I believe they share the 105bhp version basically the same engine but higher level of tune done via a remap of the ECU also possibly different intake manifold and turbo?
      There is a simple plug in device that alters the boost, I'll have a look for the video.
      czcams.com/video/6VmL9uwTxng/video.html
      The abarth engine shares the same technology, just more valves, more cylinders and of course a bigger turbo.
      Overall I'm fairly happy with the stock 85bhp but a little extra grunt would be helpful.
      I've heard 125 bhp is easily achievable.
      Not much info on tuning the Panda TA but have seen a few videos where they swap the engine for the bigger 1.4 t-jet abarth doing bigger turbo swaps etc
      czcams.com/video/03wn-REHQnA/video.html

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524 Před 2 lety +2

      @@firstbloood1 A good place to start would be the intake filter, there is probably a K&N panel filter that fits the stock housing? Or maybe an after market cold air intake.
      A solid metal boost pipe rather than the stock plastic one.
      Next thing I'd look at is a high flow catalytic converter, or even cat delete, the exhaust looks like a decent diameter for good none restrictive flow, centre box delete if yours has one, don't think mine has? Back box off something a bit sportier with better gas flow?
      I think the gains on an engine like this are going to be small improvements here and there which overall will provide a decent total gain.
      Manufacturers dub down the performance of these engines to meet emission laws, improve reliability and make the engines last longer. They do this by altering the map on the ECU, adjusting turbo boost etc
      When these tuning places remap the ECU, they just replace the stock map with a better map that opens up that restricted power.
      I'd like to try the 105bhp TA just to compare with mine, if there is much difference? I'm sure I read on one of the Fiat forums, it's just a different intake manifold and different turbo?
      Mine is currently all stock, would love a 'sport' button that opened up the power though, ECO mode just spoils the fun and seems to just make the throttle less responsive, Normal mode is where the fun starts but an extra Sport button would be cool for the overtake etc

    I like your Abarth hood. Did it come with the scoop on the left and the vent on the right, or were those holes you cut in the stock hood, and placed scoop & vent in the holes? Are there any extra-louvers you'd cut into the hood to vent heat/air? Do you pull-off to the side of the road & shut it off, if it starts POURING-DOWN-RAIN, as if you were caught in a cloud-burst? Would you have a "scoop-cover" & a "vent-cover," in case you carefully wanted to drive-through the cloud-burst? In some mid-western states, it pours so heavy for so long, if you were on the Interstate, you'd want a Semi-truck to drive in front of you, but you Not "drafting." I know the POINT of your vid was to "show us How," but what might a tuner-shop charge me for the same thing, if I'm "all-thumbs" when wrenching? The head gasket with the kit was not copper. Would there be an "advantage" to a copper head gasket? Thanks for answering my questions. You could list ALL your bolt-on/other parts, benefiting your "parts-guys", and to search-out your vids. I "think" I need 350-400HP, because the new Civic-R has 300 without power-adders. I Know 300'd take bigger injectors--would I need a cam-change, bigger turbo, more compression--Nitrous ? [ because while the Honda R has "300", you'd want to BEAT an R.] I have an AUTO. Probably have to "mod" that, also

    Hello my Friend.
    We are not interested in how it works inside there, but given that this engine has a serious design flaw, namely, it does not start after a long stop (more than 2 weeks) despite the operable kinematics of the control of valves by the Multiair module due to oil leakage from the module and the formation of air pockets in it. This disadvantage is exacerbated by the traditionally high oil consumption in this engine and the user can actually miss the critical moment of adding oil to the engine. In my case, this happened, the oil level dropped, when braking or tilting the car through the suction pipe, air got into the oil system (Multiair module hydraulics sistem) from the crankcase and the engine stopped. After topping up the oil, attempts to start the engine were unsuccessful. At the same time, compression and spark in all cylinders disappeared in the engine. The last oil 5W40 change was - 8000 km. back. The filt Multiair module er turned out to be clean, the mileage of the car is 960,000 km., the condition of the engine is good.
    Questions:
    1. How can I bleed the Multiair module and remove air from it?
    2. What is the luMultiair module brication scheme.
    3. Why is there a small ball valve on the , from Multiair module he top under the filler neck? what is its function? Some experts in Utah advise pouring 240-280 ml through it into the Multiair module oil and then try to start the engine againe. I tried topping up, but nothing came of it, because the hole (1 mm) is very small.
    Senserly yours.

      This brace is from 500 madness! Its a chassis brace for the car to eliminate flex of the frame. You will feel a difference if you drive your car hard!

    How will this affect California smog testing (CARB)?

    • @keithwittman4741
      @keithwittman4741 Před 4 lety

      Since no one has answered, I will inform you that they should not affect smog at all. Springs are only putting a small extra stress on the engine,to be able to close the valves at the higher rpms. Stopping the high rpm "floating",enables the engine to keep production of power. Whereas it dynoed a drop in power at high rpm,due to softer springs.

    Does these 500 has an ECU remap ;Also I think these upgrade will not give any advantages because of the way that MultiAir Unit works. Cheers from Greece #MtD

      @Nick Name i wouldnt either.fiat designed the multiair system for 10 years,im sure the stock springs are designed like they are on purpose.

    Nice job for the video but I think You forgot something very important. U remove the valve cover and u not going to replace the valve cover gasket! I'll bet you soon u will have oil everywhere and maybe cousing you more problem maybe lead you to blow piston

      We thought the same thing but surprisingly enough, the gasket was in great shape and we still don’t have any leaks and we’ve taken the valve cover off twice.

      Yes but no matter what u should always replace it or at least make ur own gasket might not see it now but eventually it will

    What was the code u got and did it go Away?

    • @tbr.performance
      @tbr.performance  Před 5 lety +4

      Francis Rego
      It was a cylinder 3 misfire because of the multi-air system not working correctly for the initial start up. It had to purge the air out of the system for it to work properly. Nothing crazy. We cleared the code and it never came back.

    • @BrodeyDoverosx
      @BrodeyDoverosx Před 5 lety +1

      VALLEY CREW you can purge the air by pushing the little button under the oil cap, and performing the start up procedure you were doing. Just drop some oil over the button while doing it and booom!
