  • Terrifying power of Paper! Hi Everyone! Here’s the last video I’ll be doing on Lego Technic Saw’s!
This model users 22 powered up motors and 8 Smart hubs!
This users a thin glossy paper blade, I tried glueing normal sheets together but it wasn’t as durable.
I also tried a metal tin blade but I felt it had no place being on a plastic axle so I decided not to show it on video :)

Try adding an abrasive edge to the paper. Like, glue some sand to it on Rachel side around the cutting edge. That may help it cut the wood. That or get actual sand paper and try that. I'd like to see both ideas tested.

They make very thin diamond blades for cutting gemstones; try that with a water tank and pump system and a splash guard. As long as blade is immersed in the water the blade will cut through stone up up diamond hardness. The best part is that you just keep the stone just touching the blade, don't force it and be patient. You'll cut through all kinds of stone. :)

I wonder if the heat being generated from friction is why it cuts through synthetics so well.. like it's softening the material as you cut through it. If it's darkening the wood from the heat of the friction, it's probably also making the wood harder, and so that's why it seems to cut a little bit and then just stop being effective once the wood has gotten too hot. I'm curious if you were to keep it cool with a constant stream of water if it would do better.

Great video! Very impressive on a technical level. Just a thought, but having some sort of teeth *only at the edge* of the blade would probably help a lot. Attach a flywheel like a tire of some sort to the main drive axle. Then, when it powers up it will store energy in the tire, allowing for a more stable rpm when cutting through tough objects. It will have a much easier time that way and will be much more efficient as the flywheel will add extra tourney when needed.

Hey there I try to reply to everyone! 😀 ok question! Where would you place the flywheel? Straight off the motors and then do the gearing? Or possibly 1:5 gearing then a flywheel and then more gearing.
My reason for asking is the motors have a very low 270-300 rpm and I’m not sure it would store much energy straight off the motors?
If you get back to me can you just start a new message as I find it hard to find the replies since CZcams changed things😀

Can you try using like a real circle blade or something made of medal at least? Maybe a gear? Might sound plain but i want to see how much torque all those motors really have.

Very cool setup. Are you using any kind of lubricant for your messing gears? The hard vibration from the gears meshing can create additional friction that's wasting your energy. Graphite powder is cheap and easy to experiment with. Same goes for any driveshaft blocks/mounts that take the axial load.

You should add a weighted flywheel to the axel that spins the blade, it’d allow it to cut for longer periods consistently with the cost of a longer startup time.
