    We left Pacific Rim National Park and started north. On the way we stopped at one free recreation site, Nahmint Lake, then headed through Port Alberni and further north. At the time we had high hopes for Naka Creek but we were still blown away! Most of the camp sites are right next to the water with amazing views of wildlife and giant fishing and cruise boats through the channel. This is one free recreation site not to miss!

    Very cool Jay! I want to go camp at Naka Creek..what a great spot! And the whales and porpoises!...what a treat that must have been!

      It was a complete surprise! Tina and I were setting something up at camp then we heard the "pshhhh" sounds, turned, and there they were! The porpoises were crazy and another great surprise so close to shore too. It's definitely worth it! My only wish is I had a kayak so I could get closer to the action.

    Nice video. That slug probably had death defying slime on it lol.

      I'm never going to touch one that's for sure. I saw a guy eat them on the TV show alone and he said you have to boil them multiple times to get the slime off. Funny.

      Hope you're doing well as well. Like most of America there's not much going on where I live but the entire state is in lockdown so can't go too far. Hopefully restrictions will loosen soon. The news that Texas is opening up state parks got me all excited but I'll have to manage my expectations. Believe it or not, this wasn't the only whale sighting on this trip!

    Wow!...uh, as a senior citizen, I liked those "natural" handrails! I don't need these things now, but it's nice to know it's there!

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  Před 4 lety +1

      I love when the creation of the trail looks natural like that and appreciate the effort it must have taken to find a segment then piece it together with the right part of the trail. Having grabbed long logs from a ditch by a trail then dragging them up a hill because we thought they would do the job, I really understand their work.

    You haven't been to Canada unless you've had 'Tim Hortons'! Good donuts, but I think a bit over-rated... All my life here in NW Washington and still haven't been to V Island! But I have had 'Tim Hortons'! Hurlgoat Hiker is living on V Island now, if you happen to know who he is. SOBO PCT 2017, if I remember right. Has CZcams channel. Later guys, Ed

      @JayWandersOut  Před 4 lety

      Yep, I saw his PCT videos. You're right, Tim Hortons was great but about average. I still love the classic Boston creme most. We tried the maple custard donut but it was so so.

    What is the name of the camera you use? The camera that you hold up over your head? It’s really cool pictures you take with it!

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  Před 4 lety

      Is that the spinning thing over my head and what looks like a camera sticking up out of my backpacks? It's the Insta 360 One X, a 360 camera sitting on top of a 4 ft selfie stick. It basically records everything in all directions then later you can use a phone or PC to frame it and point it towards where you wish. It makes filming a lot easier all right but editing takes a lot longer.

    Loved it. Thx for showing awesome spots I haven’t been to. I was going to ask if a trailer could make it to those spots but I saw a trailer near the end of the video so yes?? And are those first come first serve spots or reservable?

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  Před 4 lety

      Naka Creek is wide open so you would make it easily with a trailet although a little slower down those roads. Nahmint Lake would be super tight. Some of the turns to get there are tight and the road around is pretty tight as well with small parking spots. I bet you could do it in something not too big though. Unfortunately they are all first come so for the sweet spots like Naka Creek it's best to go late morning, about when people leave. Nahmint Lake was deserted when we got there probably because it's harder to get to and slightly off season.

      Jay Wanders Out yes. September is a great time to travel but as a teacher it’s not really an option.

    Wash State Slug Recipe Book by Frank Howard , Deviled Slug Canapes or Slug ' N 'Beer Batter what better ways to supplement your diet with free food . If you gotten a one day fishing license you could have had a 5 star meal with the mussels , sea urchins , sea anemones , star fish and banana slug , yes all edible . Just one I haven't tried how about you ?

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  Před 4 lety

      Ha, yep. I didn't even try to understand how fishing licenses would work there so didnt' even try. We saw some guys on a boat at Naka Creek make multiple runs and come back with a bunch of fish each time. Pretty sweet. The salmon were running at the time thus the orcas swimming around, so the locals told us.
