This is the last of my travel diaries showcasing my recent trip to Harar, Ethiopia. Check out my blog to see more photos! I had such a great time, and have learnt so much about the Harari culture (especially weddings). I can't wait to return again next year.

A lot of people think our culture is like a lot similar to Indians culture and I mean I'm not offended it's just people think I'm Indian and I'm from India but no, I'm from Ethiopia. But, I went to America. And a lot of people just think I'm India and then look at me weird or ask me questions and I'm like "Um, no I think you confused yourself and think I'm somebody else.." and there like "Oh, I thought you were Indian. Sorry." I just get really offended from that and I just think of those people who think I'm from India. I know a lot of English and some Ethiopian Language. But, I'm not from DireDawa or Harar. I'm from Addis Ababa. A lot of people think it’s so beautiful there but, in the winter they should go there because it's so cold. And there are a lot of Chinese people there. But, I'm glad you started a CZcams channel. :)

I have learnt a lot I went to Ethiopia addis Ababa last summer and it was very different compared to somaliland it's become very diverse,tall buildings beautiful hotels I just love Africa I remember leaving I was sooo upset this year all my friends have gone and they don't want to come back to London 😂😂 I don't blame them Africa is soo homely one thing I loved is the adhaan everyone would stop what they where doing to pray sooo relaxing thank you for sharing your experience with USA ❤️

Beautiful. Ethiopian culture is so beautiful. I hope I don't offend, but I notice Ethiopian culture is similar to Indian culture. Ethiopians and Indians look a alike to me and share a lot of the same customs. I often wonder if you all have some relation. Great vlog. I'm African American and I love to see authentic African culture especially since my original culture was taken from me.

@Dublue585. Dravidians are actually the descendants of the aboriginal or ancient Arabian peoples (Yemenites), not Cushitic/Horn African peoples but we did look very similar to them phenotypically back in antiquity but we also have our differences

interesting clips. wish you have posted more...by the way, the story about gey-nedeba being red. i thought the reason was totally different from one you provided in this very clip. I was born and grew up in Harar. The story I got, as i grew up is this: there were Quran-gay students who had to go outside of the wall city in order to gather bamboo stick (used for writing in the old days. One day, while doing so, they were kidnapped and killed by Sutatach ( I believe a term referring to the somalis who dwelt outside of the wall city). Gey Usoach began to paint their gey-nedeba with kay-hafer in order to commemorate the death of the children. By the way, I also came across a story to do with Sutatach who entered the city when it opens in the morning (6 am) and did not leave at 6pm (when the city 's gates usually closed). The Sutatach who stayed behind did commit some atrocit while people slept and left the city after the fact. One of the five gates, which Sutatach used to enter and leave was named after them, Sutat-Beri. Hope our gey histoians will clarify more on the very phenomenon related to gey-nedeba.
Hmmm, really. That sounds interesting. I just took my knowledge of the gey-nadaba from my grandmother in Harar. So much history in Harar, I hope we can preserve it somehow.

Dira is Somali Cultural dress, not Oromo or Harari Dira. Somali Woman will wear Expensive Dira for a wedding and will cost you $1000 or more.
Diriya is not exclusive to Somali nor did it come from Somali. It is very deep in Oromo culture and has been also Indian and Middle Eastern culture as well. And they've been known to wear similar garments for possibly centuries longer.
