Spirit of the Wind Princess - Original Composition - EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold

  • A track I made, using ONLY instruments from East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra (EWQLSO). The idea was to put this legacy library through its paces, to determine if it can stack up to all the modern sample libraries that have been released since then.
    Inspired by Joe Hisaishi and his work with Studio Ghibli.
    Composed, programmed, and mixed by Jake Cadmus.

    Made in Cockos REAPER 5.

    @Suggo Před 2 lety +5

    Definitely my favorite piece of yours. I've listened to many many artists try to emulate a Ghibli style, and none even come close. This however? You could put it straight onto Joe Hisaishi's discography and you'd have Ghibli fans sprawling to look for the movie it belongs to.
    Amazing work!

    @GharunLacyMusic Před 7 lety +80

    Well done, Jacob. As you have just proven, composition and orchestration are 100 times more important than the latest and greatest sample library. Hisaishi is a treasure, by the way. Hisaishi and Miyazaki go together like Spielburg and Williams.

      @@JakeCadmus your are right... less about the samples..more about the musical craftmanships... the number of composer wanna be that buy every years the news strings library or newest samples do help these company devlopped new and better product...but for these guys they dont learn anything...they havent even learn to use the old library properly.
      no amount of samples realism will make a composition sound good...this is the problem with most amateurs.
      this is why we now have thousand of "composer" doing these epic track that all sound the same...using hanz zimner drums and other larger then life brass and strings sample.. in the hope it will sound epic... it just sound like shit.
      good job here. iv enjoy it.

While the sound is certainly dated compared to Spitfire, Symphobia and more contemporary libraries, it's still very playable and usable. In fact, it's age makes it quick to load on your computer!

    very well done ! I am trying to get back into orchestral scoring and was wondering what your opinion of Reaper is for this type of work. What CPU are you using (multi core/thread?) ? Do you write using notation software first and if so, is there an integration of a reliable notation method in Reaper ?
    I am really looking for a program that let's me combine traditional scoring with MIDI CC editing. Thanks !

    • @JakeCadmus
      @JakeCadmus  Před 7 lety +2

      Thanks! I'm running a Windows machine with a 3rd gen (ivy bridge) i7. Reaper works just fine for orchestral scoring; though not as feature-heavy as the big dawgs (ie. Cubase, Performer, Logic, etc.), Reaper gets better with every update. They recently added notation built in, so no external software is needed anymore. I rarely use it though, because I perform most of the parts on a MIDI keyboard and edit afterwards in the piano roll.

My primary instrument is guitar so that's why all the orchestral parts I write are written first on guitar. I would need a plugin that converts the pale guitar pro midi sounds to rich and beautiful orchestral sounds in Cubase. I would not like to compose in Cubase just let the midi sounds run through the plugin. Are you guys able to suggest me a solution for this?
