Spirit of the Wind Princess - Original Composition - EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold

- A track I made, using ONLY instruments from East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra (EWQLSO). The idea was to put this legacy library through its paces, to determine if it can stack up to all the modern sample libraries that have been released since then.
Inspired by Joe Hisaishi and his work with Studio Ghibli.
Composed, programmed, and mixed by Jake Cadmus.

Made in Cockos REAPER 5. - Hudba
It warms my heart to see this done in Reaper. Great composition too! Very beautiful and epic! :-)
4 years later, still valid !
Man, three and a half years later and this still kicks ass. I can't make anything that sounds half as good with libraries that cost 3x as much.
Definitely my favorite piece of yours. I've listened to many many artists try to emulate a Ghibli style, and none even come close. This however? You could put it straight onto Joe Hisaishi's discography and you'd have Ghibli fans sprawling to look for the movie it belongs to.
Amazing work!
Well done, Jacob. As you have just proven, composition and orchestration are 100 times more important than the latest and greatest sample library. Hisaishi is a treasure, by the way. Hisaishi and Miyazaki go together like Spielburg and Williams.
Hey thanks! Yeah these old libraries still hold up well in the right hands; not saying that my hands are right, but close enough I guess, haha.
Jacob A. Cadmus - If your hands made this, they are definitely right.
@@JakeCadmus your are right... less about the samples..more about the musical craftmanships... the number of composer wanna be that buy every years the news strings library or newest samples do help these company devlopped new and better product...but for these guys they dont learn anything...they havent even learn to use the old library properly.
no amount of samples realism will make a composition sound good...this is the problem with most amateurs.
this is why we now have thousand of "composer" doing these epic track that all sound the same...using hanz zimner drums and other larger then life brass and strings sample.. in the hope it will sound epic... it just sound like shit.
good job here. iv enjoy it.
from M.J. montreal canada.
@@aeshaeshaesh Um, concur. This is excellent work.
I still come back to this track every month or two to see how an older sample library is able to stand the test of time in the hands of someone that constructs such a great composition with it. Love the music!
Just saw this. 2020 and still so good. Well done and kudus for making Reaper shine!
Yes. I like this. An original composition, and it's good.
Great!!
Astonished, amazed!!!
Love it, totally hear the Ghibli.
This just shows it's not the equipment but the user of it!
Really incredible! I love the piece.
Still coming back to listen! So great!!
just beautiful man!!!
wow... I'm speechless. This is amazing, and most of all.. convincing! Incredible work!!
Holy s* that was awesome! You inspired me to keep composing and improve my skills.
What a fantastic composition man, seriously. so much color, and the dynamics make the piece so moving!
This is amazing. I love the constant variations in color.
this is dope. thanks for sharing.
Amazing work ♡ ! Thank you for the trip ! and congratulations again ! I travelled really far and it was so good !
Very nice! Proof that Symphonic Orchestra is still very capable if used correctly. To me, this piece is reminiscent of a Zelda or Final Fantasy track.
Great! thanks for sharing
Beautifully done.
This is beyond brilliant. You are a genius!
Fantastic!
Very Cool! Sounds Great!!!
OMG so great structured song. Each melody has been arranged perfectly into such a beautiful melody.
Your piece is inspiring every single time i listen to it, which is probably every day for the last month since i discovered it. well done!
beautiful piece
Very beautiful piece :) i can close my eyes and actually picture myself in a medieval scene...amazing
Beautiful composition and i love EWQLSO...this instrument is so much natural.
Bravo!
The brass layering is phenomenal! You really nailed the positioning and the reverb too, something I have struggled with for years now.
This is gold.
It could go right into the movie, this is some amazing stuff!! Keep it up, I'm looking forward to checking more of your music!!:)
That's really excellent.
I am very impressed by this composition. I've been using EWQLSO Gold exclusively for the past few years, and I've started to give up the idea that it alone can provide a full orchestration sound, but your composition has inspired me to keep trying to mix and create. Thank you!
incredible Jacob
Congratulatios! Sounds great, very realistic and nice composition. Good Job!
Beautiful, it both sounds like a Joe Hisaishi score and original at the same time. Thank you for posting this, more original pieces PLEASE!!!
Wow this is beautiful! Just what I wanted to hear - I am looking for a composing suite and this sounds like just what I’m after. Thank you!
incredible work dude
Genius........
very beautiful - been having cold feet about purchasing this sample pack due to criticisms about lack of realism. Thanks for proving it's the composer's duty to bring out the beauty in the tools he has to work with. I will be comparing my work to this piece for future reference.
Wooowwww!!!!!!!! SOOOOOOOOO so wonderful. I like it! I love it. You have my Abo.
Very good work. Congrats.
This one prooves that the one behind the Computer is far more important than the Lib itself!
Great Work!
Man this is just stupid good. I just started dabbling with East West CC and feeling a bit overwhelmed, but this inspired me anew! Thanks!
I was planning to get a string library but i watch your vid. Inspired in my favorite composer. Now i bought SO thx you. You save me a lot of time searching for a good strings library ( now i have the full orchestra). Fantastic vid this should be in a movie.
How good has it turned out?
This is so beautiful. The change at 1:46 makes me want to cry.
Well done! I only just recently got my hands on Symphonic Orchestra and I can't believe what I've been missing out on. While the sound is certainly dated compared to Spitfire, Symphobia and more contemporary libraries, it's still very playable and usable. In fact, it's age makes it quick to load on your computer!
And besides! as you've shown, it's not about the tools. It's the music!
A wonderful track from an evergreen orchestra! :D
Great orchestration skills! The material deserves a longer treatment. Really enjoyable, well done! 👍
Great stuff - a perfect example of why this library is perfectly valid in 2019!
Beautiful track Jacob!As Always :)
wow 💙
Great work Jacob
I first heard it on NG and didn't get to save it. thank God I found it such a beautiful piece
With good sound editing skills and orchestration like this, EWQLSO can still make awesome tracks
Great samples! I can't imagine what 2019 samples are like.
Reaper, nice!
Impressive stuff! I have EW SO Platinum, but never managed to get this good sound. You inspired me to use it a bit more. =)
Hisaishi!!!!
Wow, usually people use this sound library for quick and fast passages because that's what it sounds best with. But I am impressed with your ability to get this sound library to work with slower passages.
wow! certainly another great piece of work. Looking forward for working relationships.
This is great! Somehow it sometimes stylistically reminds me of Nobuo Uematsu's music as well. Nice.
sounds like something straight out of hollow knight.
brilliant work
That harp! Final Fantasy is that you? Amazing dude!!
woooow, so sofisticated! I am beginner at using midi for compositions... maybe someday I get on your level! :D
Excellent demo. I have the EWQLSO and I'm actually thinking about the new Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra Core... But this good old SO is still a good piece of library...
2:09 till the end was epic

I think the answer is yes? It still stacks up against other libraries.. great piece thanks for sharing its awesome 👍🏽
Sounds great considering this is a very old library.,sample sounds as you know have improved big time. But this shows when you really know what you’re doing as you do , it doesn’t matter the age of the library. It actually has held up well.
jossss
Very well done, I absolutely love this! Btw, how do you start the composition process? Do you figure out a good chord progression first on which to build the song, or do you start with the melody?
I listen to this composition everyday, it's so good
Edit:
The brass sounds a little muffled though, was that done on purpose?
Once again great composition Jacob
Impressive! Like! Subscription!
Personally I use both EWQLSO and EWQL Hollywood. I think that Symphonic Strings are more usable than Hollywood Strings. But for Brasses, Woodwinds and a good part of Percussions The hollywood libraries are awesome.
Very nice please for a tutorial!
Wow!
That is the best EW SymphonicOrchestra composition I have ever come across! Legendary man!
May I ask what DAW you're using?
very well done ! I am trying to get back into orchestral scoring and was wondering what your opinion of Reaper is for this type of work. What CPU are you using (multi core/thread?) ? Do you write using notation software first and if so, is there an integration of a reliable notation method in Reaper ?
I am really looking for a program that let's me combine traditional scoring with MIDI CC editing. Thanks !
Thanks! I'm running a Windows machine with a 3rd gen (ivy bridge) i7. Reaper works just fine for orchestral scoring; though not as feature-heavy as the big dawgs (ie. Cubase, Performer, Logic, etc.), Reaper gets better with every update. They recently added notation built in, so no external software is needed anymore. I rarely use it though, because I perform most of the parts on a MIDI keyboard and edit afterwards in the piano roll.
Some Guy (maybe me): EWQL SO is no longer used because it sounds fake
Jacob Cadmus: *Hold my beer*
It kind of does sound fake. It's just the composition is top notch, which adds to illusion. IMO, of course.
*jaw dropped
So a little help is needed. I compose symphonic metal music on guitar pro. I have just gotten used to composing like this. My primary instrument is guitar so that's why all the orchestral parts I write are written first on guitar. I would need a plugin that converts the pale guitar pro midi sounds to rich and beautiful orchestral sounds in Cubase. I would not like to compose in Cubase just let the midi sounds run through the plugin. Are you guys able to suggest me a solution for this?
WOW!! Thats really incredible! How can I learn to arrange like that?
When working with this software do does it have to be imputed into sheet music form and then is it translated into sounds such as this display. I’m trying to get a music software that has high quality sound but I am fairy new when it comes to music software and production.
I really like this piece !! I also use EWQLSO but the Gold version. Do you think that with Platinum it is worth much better?
Jacod , that's awesome!) So it's gold or diamond version?
Amazing stuff! Do I need kontakt for eastwest libraries ? And Are all the instruments you're using from the Symphonic orchestra gold ?
Just, wow. I am a huge fan Joe Hisaishi and EWQLSO. Is there any possible way you would share the midi for this project (for a price)? Lovely arrangement and great midi programming.
have you try to upload this in spotify?
I sounds cool though. I'm looking forward to your next work
great song! Can you share your templet doc?I can pay for that, want to learn your Orca!
anyone compared the gold vs platinum vs diamond editions of EWQL instruments?
I think gold is good for background platinum for a orchestra only recording and diamond for badass soundtracks
24GB of ram and i still can't get this to work this well.
computer doesn't run out of ram. program just loads upto 8 gbs of samples than craps out on me.
Starts calmly then gets epic, too bad that this needs VSTs
This is such an awesome composition! What do you think of the whole composer cloud thing? Do think its worth trying?
Absolutely worth trying! If not for my hardware limitations, I would be using the Hollywood Orchestra via CC.
What theme did you use for reaper in this video? Awesome piece btw :)
Thanks! I used a modified version of the "Fusion" theme.
How does EWQL Symphonic Orchestra work? I mean, is this Software with it's own systems, programing and interface, or are these just fantastic samples that work with any composing program? If the latter, are there only certain programs that work with this?
You can use it as VST
Did you use a MIDI controller to record this?
