    So a couple of notes extra notes:
    If you aren't getting exp it's likely because your not tagging/hitting the leeches before they're eaten
    I recommend setting the cups aetheryte to return location in case you die
    For extra safety you can get a couple extra spells like acorn bomb which will put enemies asleep or at the higher levels mighty guard and some gear upgrades will let you survive a hit or two

      If you have the sleep spell, put the leech to sleep then pull the Clionid over to it, less chance of being hit. After it eats the leech run until you no longer have aggro, repeat.

    Literally started blue mage at lvl 1 today and did this to 80. Took around 6ish hours total.
    Thanks for the guide!

    @Albaer Před 5 měsíci +51

    An even safer method I found from a comment in another YT video is to use Sleep on the Leech, and then Sticky Tongue the Clionid into it. By the time the Clionid is unstunned and eats the Leech you've run far enough away to be completely safe. No chance of being auto-attacked by either. If there was a second Leech in my getaway path I used Swiftcast > Sleep on it while running so it doesn't have a chance to attack me while I'm still trying to get away from the Clionid.

      @njdss4 Před 3 měsíci +5

      Thank you so much for this alternate method! It is far easier and safer. Sleep being a Role spell you automatically learn at level 10 and Sticky Tongue being from a level 14 Toxic Toad in Central Thanalan makes this trivial to get set up, too! I set my Home Point to Ondo Cups in case I made a mistake and died for quick respawns (only died once) and blasted through 70 levels in less than two hours!

    • @ohthatwasneat
      @ohthatwasneat Před 2 měsíci +2

      So after trying the video and this strategy, this is by far the superior method when you're ultra low level. It's so much safer, giving you a chance to bail if you get aggro before you sticky tongue, and giving you a stun with sticky tongue to get distance with or without sprint.
      A few notes; Run down the hill immediately after sticky-tonguing to out-range the auto, you can also Swiftcast Sleep if you grab any additional mob's aggro. Food and earrings help, doing it three times I went from levels 18-33. Obviously it'll slow down, but good music/podcast and the can-do spirit can help. Make sure when you pull the Clionid, the leech is inbetween you and it when you're done. That way it will auto-eat. If it's to the side it'll miss it.
      Thanks for this suggestion. I thought I was just bad because the auto-attacks were doing 20x my hp. This is THE strategy.

    This is by far the most efficient and preferred leveling technique. Nevermind that I'd have to go back to old content to learn other spells from the ground up; I'd have the leveled gear and could last much longer grinding content by myself. Thank you so much for this tidbit!

    This method is great! I was level 44 from leveling killing mobs a few levels above me, took a while and was not very fun.
    After watching this on Monday, I leveled to 80 in a few hours total, doing it in a few chunks. I did it in crazy low gear, saving my poetics for a Cryptolurk once I hit max.

    One thing you should add to the Flying Sardine is Sleep. This combo is insanely useful in making sure you get consistent pulls. Cast Sleep on the Leech, Flying Sardine the Cilonid and watch them eat it. Repeat till 80. Slower, yes, but far more safe and consistent.

  • @HayTatsuko
    @HayTatsuko Před 5 měsíci +7

    If you're feeling particularly bold, you _can_ let a Clionid eat three leeches in short order -- but you'd best be running away while it's nominating the third one, or it WILL one-shot you if you're in melee range at the end of its meal. However, it's not really necessary, as there are plenty of Clionid/Leech groups that one can just rotate amongst.

    Some advice who are trying this. I tried this once, it did not work for a bit. However, what was not mentioned in the video, you will need to actually deal damage to the Leeches, not simply grabbing aggro.

      @TheNastyNamazu  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Yeah, unfortunately the best methods(stormblood and/or shadowbringers)usually involve fighting the highest level enemies you can relative to blue's max level or need spells you get from future expansion.
      Though if you were determined to try blue mage my older leveling video goes over how to level traditionally through arr and heavensward but be warned this will take significantly longer.

    The life of a Blue Mage can be a hard journey with no guidance to where you can learn by watching and copying your enemies moves to copy their ability from your Blue Mage Book. Took me so long and finally copied some powerful abilities like the 1000 Needles, to Bad Breath from Marlboro. Finally reaching ten copies abilities I can purchase previous copied abilities from like White Wind for crowd healing.

    If you are returning to BLU mage after completing all of the level 70 content and don't want to party find for the farm, you can fight these enemies solo with ram's voice, Eikonic spells, and strong single target combos like peripheral synthesis + mustard bomb

    I can't get this to work reliably. Sleep misses on the leeches like 90% of the time, you don't get XP if you just sardine the leech, you have to do damage. Even damage attacks miss the leech a lot of the time.

    • @Grayald
      @Grayald Před 25 dny

      What? I went from 1 to 70 in a couple of days of casual grinding doing this. All I did was sardine the leech, and then sardine the other thing and try to make them run close to each other. My attacks missed almost 100% of the time and I still got experience.

      You do have to actually attack the leeches for it to count as you aggroing them beyond that make sure your not in a party, and be careful your not accidentally pulling the leeches to far before being eaten otherwise they go deaggro and go invulnerable
