Incredible craftsmanship wow you are a treasure Mike!!
I have learnt so much watching your videos- I use nets for bubbling not fishing 😀 afixed to poles they produce huge clouds of bubbles and are excellent for windy days. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge with us all ❤

Thank you both for the video. It's that French hitching (a.k.a spiral hitching) you used as whipping at the swivel? (When Phil valiantly tried to get Mike to move his hands out of the way. 😅)

    Thanks for the video Mike.
I am from New Smyrna Beach and neighbors of a menorcan family. I have been making nets my whole life monofilament mullet nets mostly. I still use the eight panel pattern and sometimes add an extra panel. I noticed that most people have gone to the six panel designe for easier building. I think that puts way to much webbing in a net. That extra webbing slows the rate of sinking and causes the net to close faster. What is your opinion about this?
I like the way you tied the tucks in. That would not tangle as much as my current way. Time for a change thanks for the info. Now I have to watch more of your videos and see what other improvements I can make.

Hi David, Thanks for the note, I do not make panel nets, only hand made cast nets, tanks again and stay safe.

    Hi
I started a cast net a few days ago, my first ever attempt. Stupidly I chose 40lb braid before learning its not the best for a beginner to use, topping that I also chose a small mesh size , doh lol
I'm curious to know how long a 6' 6" net with a mesh size of ¾" would take a competent person to finish just the net, not including the lead line, horn, bridals etc

Bob, Dacron is not a good idea to learn with, I always suggest bonded nylon. I use 30 lb, test Cortland braided Dacron on my nets. Your question on how long it should take to make a 6'.6" 3/4" mesh net is a very difficult question to answer. give me a call at 904 217 7974 I can answer any question, I'm too slow with one finger.

Does the other end of Braile line go across the circle or straight up n down next to its finished polished beginning?

    • @mikeusina73

Darren, if you put 20 braille lines in a net you cut 10 lines that are twice as long as your net + an extra 18 in to attach to your lead line. The braille lines go through the swivel and straight down the net. If confused call me. 904 217 7974

Ok so how does it work I'm interested on using a casting net to catch fish never done it but looks way easier than a fishing rod how exactly does a net work I've seen ppl on CZcams throw it and it expands like a circle then they let it go a bit in the water but after that I'm lost I see them pulling fish out how the bottom where your led weight balls does it close when u pull oh what happens ?
