  • This is the first part of an epic Newschannel 8 Special that I had the privilege of producing that chronicles the history of Tampa Stadium. From the groundbreaking on November 4, 1967, early years of football in the 70's to the Bucs and their final season in the Ole Sombrero in 1997. It also includes highlights from Super Bowl XVII and XXV and the USFL Championship Game in 1984. The second half of the show is dedicated to the Tampa Bay Bandits, Tampa Bay Rowdies and the many incredible concerts and celebrations that happened in the Ole Sombrero! This show is hosted by Dick Crippen and the late Tom McEwen, two legendary sports journalist in Tampa Bay.

I moved to Tampa in '79! It was a great season to become a Buc fan! To think that they were only beat by 3 damned field goals from the superbowl!!!!! (Not that they had a chance at beating Pittsburgh)
