Phantom 07 was one of the most highly anticipated lines to see after winning the drum title in 06. I remember recording that quad break in San Antonio, and playing it back in slow-mo on my camcorder during downtime on the rest of tour to learn it. Great video!

We basically toured with Phantom that entire summer and we were always walking into the show when they were getting into the book. I think in San Diego a week before finals we were walking by them on the way in and they were ramming the drum break and all of us were like “oh my god. That’s another level right there!”

I went to 07 finals at the Rose Bowl. Been a BD fan for life....but after being right in front of Phantom that night....then heading over to BD and watching them before they went in for finals.....I for sure thought Phantom had it in the bag. Was super shocked when BD took home drums that year....

So glad y'all finally reacted to Phantom 2010! One of my favorite lines ever!

Amazing how those 2007 phantom vids still hold up. I still bust out laughing at those egg beaters in the drum solo. Dudes are just ramming all over the place… throw in some egg beaters… Jesus. I feel like Rennick was trying to make us laugh with those beats. Simply nuts.

I remember watching 2010 Phantom in the lot in WV. Man, those quads were just incredible. I remember hearing that quad solo and just losing my mind as a kid.

Does anyone else hold their breath unintentionally for the entirety of this video everytime they watch it? Asking for everyone else.

Phantom 2006-2007 had the second version of Pearl's CarbonPly drums, undoubtedly the best sounding drums since.... ever, as far as I'm concerned. Also this was about the time both Evans and Remo came out with "smooth white" bass drum heads, which help create the full, dark, round bass tones.
I was there in the lot (marched Glassmen that year). I'll never forget it

Cool. Thanks for the info! Also, I freakin love the pearl carbon ply drums. Used em in 2010. -Mike

PR 2010 - Playing that clean IS the difficulty. We're seeing nowadays everybody's got chops. Doesn't matter if you've got the tricks if the ball doesn't go in the hoop.

One of my instructors in HS was in the Phantom snareline in 07. Pretty sure he went on to be the snare tech at SCV for a few years.

FYI Rennick has never done slips. All the graphics you see on the recent drums are decals over a wood finish

If there was ever a selling point for dynamic headphones, '07 Phantom Baseline is it. Sheesh!

Phantom 07 is my favorite Rennick book. I'd say the only other two contenders are Phantom 06 and Vanguard 16

Sorry to those below who are even thinking about BD while watching a Rennick book. No comparison--Johnson books are so stock and block comparatively. Also, '07 break is the best writing in DCI history. Period.
