    That ref was too interactive trying to push the action and passing out kyungos like it's Halloween candy. I've been in fights where refs did this and it leads to a lot of injuries, rushed decisions and costly points. He needs to chill out.

    its actually pretty stupid to block with your
    forearms, simply because they can break if you get kicked hard.

  • @uberathlete
    @uberathlete Před 16 lety +1

    True, I know what you mean. We're of the same era in TKD and I'm sure it bothers you, as it does I, the way TKD is right now. Some of the things I saw during the Olympic matches were both shocking and disheartening. Sigh. Oh well times sure have changed.

    It was disappointing to me to see the Korean kid land two very clean punches that he got no credit for. The sport already places too much emphasis on kicking, and then not to credit two clean blows that are legal... it hurts the sport. I wonder if they know that.

    also dropping the hands enables you to block easier.. reemmber most kicks r to the body

    good fight

  • @jam2robe
    @jam2robe Před 17 lety

    because for one, and it depends actually, but why i dont bring my hands up to guard my face is because i wouldn't want my opponent kickin my elbows and vise versa. Secondly because those fast kickers in our Olympic style world will sneak a kick in before you can drop your hands to block it. and most of the time you can see a head shot coming so you can bring your hands up for it. Droping the hands i guess provides more waist coverage. Personally speaking, that's why i do it.

  • @Jacomus90
    @Jacomus90 Před 17 lety

    its not stupid. if you block with your forearms it will protect your body from getting hurt, and if you do break your arm, which is rare, it is better than breaking a rib or getting knocked out.

  • @uberathlete
    @uberathlete Před 16 lety

    Agreed. Keeping the hands up is basic. Putting hands down is arrogance. Having the hands down does not necessarily mean that it's faster in blocking the body, at least on the open side. With the hands up slightly midway up the chest it travels the same distance to block as when the hands are to the side of the body. Putting the hands up also function to maintain better balance during kicking motions and even non kicking motions.

    kyungos are given because TKD fighters are having bad sparring habits these days. Example, falling down too much, standing and not engaging in sparring, holding, pushing, and so on. I'm a TKD fighter myself and concerned how TKD competition is progressing. It's becoming just a kicking fight mostly using round house kicks. Very sad to say TKD is becoming an inefficient art of fighting.

    Before you guys start talking shit you don't know; I take TKD, World Taekwondo Federation is the video you're watching. We put our hands low durring tournaments because that way our reaction time is better and we can have a better awareness incase of headshots that might come from an obscure angle. In boxing, you have a fucked up view of your opponent, in TKD you can see everythng he does and his body language. Why have ur arm chambered to hit when your kicks are what count, anyway?

    TKD sucks for many reasons but the main ones are that the kicks have little power and if you get a TKD fighter on the ground he cant do shit cuase he cant kick you while your punching his teeth out. Muay Thai FTW :D

    you are talking MMA; we are talking about elite TKD competetion; go find the MMA sites. as far as useless; i have never lost a fight on the street with Olympic TKD and a little boxing, and sprawling. every clown on you tube hops in anonymity, and punks peoples styles; not even Matt Hughes, or Randy Couture are praising styles and they are wrestlers; fighter make fights.

    @TwistedWarp and i haven't misjudjed it either because i studied this shit martial art for 3 years then i decided to study Muay Thai which is WWAAYYYY better. and the only kick that has any power at all is the tornado kick depending on how fast you spin.
