Hiya Neil 🌞, IMO your extensive knowledge of UK and its history from such varied aspects,as well as your singular marvellous experiences and skills in presentation puts you up there as the ideal person to advertise our Britain. The music alone in this video was so uplifting, that it was a great piece of oomph to the piece of informative history;& no vocal needed- stood out by itself. Have replayed it twice now, refreshing, orignal, way of presentation. Waving 😊😂❤Thankyou as ever J.I.M.K Mrs. Brisbane, Australia ❤ 🇦🇺 😀 🪃
How absolutely beautiful that you have done this , thanks Neil so enlightening for those who don’t know these incredible things about London and the underground , my father worked for the London Underground services and was very proud and insisted on showing me these places years ago , telling about how the London people used the underground as shelters during WW2, your story reminded me of him . He’s long gone now , London has an incredible history . Thanks again
I remember doing a project on London’s lost rivers and the occurrences of dangerous diseases of the day, and this video was mesmerising to me Neil, and beautifully produced. Thank you for reminding me of vital history of London and the disease patterns that happened.
Wow, beautiful music for this story. Like I've said before, and have gotten told off for saying it, London is beautiful. A mix of the old and modern. The history is there, and remembered, noted, and saved. That's a rare thing. Thank you for a fascinating story and beautiful music. Cheers!👋👋😁
More London history with old photos, YIPPEE, I love this!! History is never tiresome and should be treasured. Thanks Mr. Neil. You would have made a great teacher.
Stunning portrayal of the great London Underground Railway system that was built many decades ago. The ease of transit there is a thing that I miss greatly where I currently am. Thank you Neil Sean.
Great video ! When they built a housing estate, they enclosed the river in pipes under the gardens ,but whenever it rains hard the rain follows the path of the river that is in the pipes ! Thankyou for sharing Neil 👏👏👏😎💖
Decades ago we were taken to a small tomb in Upper Egypt , a shaft in the sandy stony desert. One man held a rope, and the other villager plus self and husband descended into a small room size tomb. The guide held his hand to his ear to let us know to listen. We heard the Nile, there , the noise of rushing water underground. Scary but wonderful. Londons lost rivers are fascinating, you stirred up long forgotten memories.
Well I never! That's a new one for me Neil. Thank you very much. I'm constantly amazed at how much geotech engineering has been going on in London for centuries now and, were it not for those wonderful ancient maps and records, their history would just have vanished into the mists of time! That was wonderful. 👏👏👏
I have been reading a series of mystery novels set in London during the regency period and the Fleet River was still there but mostly built over and it ran through a lot of basements in its path. You can imagine the stuff people threw into it. Food and industrial waste, including nasty chemicals, even a regular quantity of dead bodies which ended up on the banks of the Thames to be stripped of anything valuable by Mudlarks. Violent crime was rampant in those days. We think it’s bad today, and it is, but 200 years ago it was much worse.
Neil, you need to get all the things & people you know, in book form so the history can live on! I would definitely be interested in anything you would write. History needs to be told & remember, less we repeat it. I love history!! Thank-you for all your videos. I have been watching all of them for a long time. A fan across the big ole’ pond called the Atlantic & Royal fan too!
I swear, watching all these beautiful places and people really makes me want come spend months enjoying it all!!! Y’all are so truly blessed with the most gorgeous buildings and architecture!!! Absolutely love it!!!! I love my Texas, and America, but the best places in our state and country, is all the OLD towns, with deep deep roots and the mindset to keep the old and best and help restore it’s beauty!!! Much love from Texas to all UK🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
I wish I had known more of the history of London when I was there. I love watching your channel, it’s wonderful seeing sights and sounds that I can remember from my visit. Thank You Neil For all the great memories, all the new memories, and for sharing, what you and other true Londoner’s enjoy about the town. Big 👋 from KS, USA
The music was so lovely and reflected still water, dancing water and just flowing water. Good bits of little known history too. I loved it. Thank you so much ❤
I was a student at Imperial College 1985-8. I loved it being in London and dearly miss it. You say Neil that it has changed a lot though. I miss those times…..
This is touching, lost rivers is sad, old landscapes changed as is all over the world . I suppose its the same as bulding on all the fields that were around the small towns and villages everywhere to cope with the growig population over the centuries. Thank you Neil, a beautiful video.
Good morning Neil, Beautiful, This held me from the moment it opened Brought back memories of many hours fishing, On an early Sunday morning, Sun shining, birds singing so tranquil On the river banks of yorkshire Thank you , Your talent showing even more. Stay safe take care.
I have been fascinated by London’s hidden rivers since I first read about them in English crime fiction - the rivers and the ghost stations. Fun to hear about them again. I would love to take the tour.
Fascinating. I love history, especially hidden history. I love the idea that all around central London there are disused Tube stations. I believe there are many ghost stories attached to them. Wonderful. Neil, how about some ghost stories of London?
When I went to visit London late last summer, I wanted to see the history. The modern is fine, but the old history, you need it to understand the present as well as the future we are headed into.
Thanks for this wonderful history lesson on London's lost rivers . Good to know their names live on in other ways with the names of parks and streets .🐨🇦🇺🦘
I visited London many times growing up in Bristol, but knew nothing about the lost rivers. Thank you once again Neil for enlightening me! Hugs from B.C. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇬🇧🇬🇧
This was very interesting. Funnily enough, I learned about London’s underground rivers through Nicci French and one of their main characters, Frieda Klein. I had never heard of those rivers before. Thanks for your interesting content!
Thank you! What an interesting video. I never knew about London's lost rivers, and I wonder if there will ever come a time when some of the rivers will be uncovered and allowed to flow again?
Thank you Neil. The video was so worth watching. History I did not know. I also want to thank you for taking the time to do videos like these. They are like a nice cup of tea and a bicky on a cold wet day. They just pick you up and make you feel better.
This was very interesting. I have been reading a series of books by a man called Ben Aaronovitch called 'The Rivers of London' a fantasy series (not my usual stuff I have to say think Harry Potter for grown ups). It is a good read and the author includes lots of interesting (true) information about the lost rivers of London.
The history of London never fails to impress . This was just wonderful, Neil . Big wave 👋
