I’m National Guard and I can say it’s very possible to go to Ranger School. Every state has slots available and often don’t even have enough people that want to attend or are just not qualified. Each year they hold a RSRE Ranger selection readiness evaluation. It’s kinda like a 3 day smoker where they test you on all the events in RAP week. Ranger PT test, gear lay out, water test, obstacle course (multiple times) land nav day and night and 12 mile road March.
This was my experience for the Ranger selection every state could be different however. This is to see how you will fair in RAP week which is what gets a majority of the people. I was the only person who attended that passed every event and got to go within a few months. This was also during the pandemic so if you work hard it’s doable. They also told everyone else “as long as you don’t quit we will get you to Ranger School.”
Did you make it mate?
What state just wondering
I’m in the Wisconsin national guard currently in Ait as a 91c and want to go to ranger school even if I have to change my mos I will do it
As someone who’s been to ranger school from a conventional unit I can guarantee you that there are going to be pv2s to spc at ranger school. The highest bulk of the school is specialists and lts
I’ve been waiting for this video! I leave Sunday and was hoping you would make one before I goto processing
I went as lower enlisted NG. Look up the Warrior Training Center's RTAC (Pre-Ranger) course, or RTLI.
Love your vids man, they helped me out a lot. I got my desired MOS (68W) and I ship out in a few months. I'm pumped
i leave june 29th. 68W
Goodluck guys!
How’s it going so far?
I wanna be a 11b so bad its my dream now bro frfr
@@officialwop4467 how old are you?
Right after AIT 16 guys from my platoon went straight to Ranger School and I was one of them. That was back in 1987.
Depending on your unit you can go to PRC (Pre Ranger Course) ... and upon the completion of PRC you'll get a hard slot to Ranger School.
ehhh I’m only a private but unit told me that as long as I’m crushing it at PT they’ll send me...there’s plenty of privates that go to ranger school actually
I was told the same thing by an officer at meps told be to be top of class and basic and AIT and keep asking since I will be infantry and at fort Benning
@@daytongrosko5157 how’d it go
Thank you Matt I have been wondering what routes i can take
Option 40 contracts are hard to come by right now y'all, COVID has backed them up a bit. Just an fyi for anyone looking to enlist soon. My recruiter called me at like 9pm to tell me he got it with 68W because he was so excited. He was calling the west coast offices often to see if one opened up
A Aron who’s your recruiter? Sounds like you found a good one
I was an E-2 private at Ranger School, class 4-86. Just go in as 11B with a ranger contract. I went through RIP three months after hitting the 1st Ranger Battalion I had my slot for Ranger School. And remember, the tab does not make you a Ranger, serving in the 75th Ranger Regiment makes you a Ranger.
Im going 11x what should be the next step even if I become Charlie and not bravo?
Your damn right, I definitely wasn’t one but met s bunch of them dudes when I served. There’s tons of tabbed dudes but way less rangers. Delta, Green berets and seals get a lot of credit but those 75th boys do work 🤙
@@officialwop4467 Did you make it?
As an armor officer if you get assigned to an IBCT you will go to ranger after BOLC. ABCT and now SBCT will not go to ranger school from BOLC your unit will have to send you back which is unlikely until you come back for MCCC.
I am an MI officer at the 101st and got a slot. All I did was ask my unit. The easiest option is to go to a light infantry unit and ask.
Could you do more videos like this for airborne and sapper
I remember watching this last year before I joined. A year later I finish air assault school and now I’m doing my packets for ranger and airborne. Moral of the story you never know
Did you have it in your contract? I ship to basic June 20th but don’t have option 40. My MOS is 11b and I’m about to get a promotion to E-3 before I ship, how likely can I volunteer and get ranger school or RASP?
Heh... one step at a time. For now, I'm perfectly happy building my Airborne packet so I can finally not be one of about 3 legs in my entire unit. After that... still haven't decided what I want to do. I know that USASOC has been trying to get me to reclass to 18X for the last couple weeks, but let's be honest... they're looking for new PSYOP peeps right now, and even if I was an E-3 with the PT score they're after, I really can't see myself messing with people's heads like that. Ranger school does sound like something I'd do at some point in my career, though
Do you have a video about, how to go to Sapper school?
I want to be in the special forces when I grow up but I made up my mind.
Happy Hump Wednesday Matt!
Plenty of PFC/SPC that go to ranger school especially in regiment.
I know this video is about Ranger School, but do you (or anyone) have any tips to get better at swimming fast. I am shipping off to Navy boot camp in March. I can swim just fine, but I am worried about the PST for becoming a Dive Med Tech. It is a 500 yard swim in 12:30. I can swim just fine but I am definitely not a speed swimmer. And I am from a place where pools are not open and its already getting cold. Any advice?
Leaving for Benning may 24th. 17 years old. Hooah!!
Awesome bro!! Congratulations!!
EVERYONE THAT IS SHIPPING OUT TO BENNING ON OCTOBER 1ST DROP YOUR SNAP CHAT WE HAVE A GROUP CHAT 💪🏻
I can't get an option 40 couse Im Australian. Will have to go 11B and volunteer but have been told it's definitely not guaranteed
Im in the National Guard and was offered Ranger school after AIT
This is off topic but what happends if during family day/ graduation if no one shows up?
I believe that army won’t invest money in NG/Reserves that have an absolute need for the training.
82ND Airborne is guaranteed to go to ranger school it is practically mandatory to have a ranger tab if you are combat MOS here
That’s just objectively not true. If that were true that unit would pretty much not exist.
The only unit that absolutely requires combat MOS personnel to obtain their tabs is the 75th where you cannot be in a leadership position without it. I currently work with a guy who was a PSG in 82nd, not tabbed, not a JM. At the end of the day they have to fill those slots and don’t have the luxury of only choosing tabbed guys.
I plan on becoming a MP in the army, when I get out of high school, to help me become a Civilian Police Officer.
Isaac Davis what about 37F??
@@isidorebranham5327 Nope. MP it is.
Isaac Davis do You Champ!! Both go to MP school.
Why not just become a civilian cop? It'll save you time and get you straight to your goal...
@@bushmaster3967 Also seems to be more preference for 11B's in Civilian Police Departments than there is for 31B's since they won't have to effectively train out the inevitable "bad habits" one would pick up as an MP.
Civilian Law Enforcement is worlds apart from Military Law Enforcement.
Same basic principles to a certain extent, but just enough of a gap to make it a hassle.
Just go be a Civi Cop...
Why is it looked down upon for infantry officers who don’t go attend and pass Ranger School? What if they fail, or just didn’t attend but are an infantry officer, how will that impact their time serving?
If you dont have the tab hit the slab
Is it possible for 25B’s to join 75th ranger regiment? If so, what entails on the job (if you can tell without confidentiality)? Are you put into combat more often? Just curious.
Do a video on how getting rid of the shark attack may benefit/hurt the training process
My new goal.
Since you mentioned going into the 75th upon Enlistment, would it be possible to go to OCS with RASP 2 in the contract? Or is it one of those things where as an Officer, I would have to wait until much later, like being Captain for 18A?
Can’t get rasp 2 or really anything guaranteed in an OCS contract.
Will reserves be able to live in the barracks?
Your chances to attend ranger school increases while being in the guard if you're in a combat unit (vs not being in a combat unit) as an officer.
Any thoughts or tips for working with parents who aren't supportive of you joining the military? I've been interested in the military for as long as I can remember, and its absolutely what I want to do, but it feels really hard to try and commit when everyone disagrees and thinks I would be a fool to join. I need to work on my physical health in order to get in as I've struggled with my weight for a few years now, but my parents basically refuse to help me in any way because they know I just wanna workout/eat better so I can join.
Well how many immediate family members do you have?
Mom, dad, blood related brothers/sister. Everyone got 1 vote. So if yes- votes are more or equal to no-vote, you can join without worrying. Otherwise, I really hope that you leave the military alone. The military will abandon you just like many homeless people. My dad thinks its the biggest mistake in my life, I agree with him. My mom agrees but does not support. I say yes, mom says yes, so Im good to go. At one point in the military, I think you will think that you are making the biggest mistake of your life. I think you are right. Cheers.
It’s your life buddy. Gotta eventually start making decisions for your self. If you wanna join the army, join the army. A lot of parents don’t support initially, but they are damn proud when you graduate and become a solider.
Join only if you come in as an Officer. Enlisting might seem badass and cool but it’s not worth the bullshit enlisted soldiers do, plus you literally make chump change.
At 18 they’re opinion doesn’t matter and you can make the decision yourself. Think about what you want to do in life and see how the military can help
I beg to go they didn’t send me my pt score was I was in great shape 😢
I’m going to OCS as a reservist would I get my AIT orders at OCS or are they include in the paperwork and my contract that I get from MEPS?
Your unit cuts your orders for bolc otherwise you’ll commission and then go home until they send you
Thanks for the info Joseph!
My recruiter just got me an option 40 contract with my 25U MOS and my ship date is mid October. I haven’t been preparing physically much bc I thought I’d get my ship date like late November or December. Let’s hope I make it.
What was your ASVAB score and what were your deciding factors? I'm scoring high eighties on my practice attempts at the ASVAB but I don't want to take it until I know for certain I'll have the score. My recruiter just kept talking about how hard getting an option 40 was going to be and it made me cautious.
Caleb Edwards my asvab score was an 80. I’ll think you’ll be fine. Anything above a 70 qualifies you for special forces. My deciding factors at the time were honestly just getting something in the 25 series. When he told me he got me an option 40 I got excited but I had to think bc if I don’t make it through rasp then I’ll get stuck with the 25U he gave me. So I told him I didn’t want that contract anymore, now I just want an 18x bc might as well go all out. And yes option 40s are hard to come by and he was a little upset I didn’t take it bc of that. If you want to leave now then just go for it and down the line you can ask for Rasp. But if you want it on your contract guaranteed and need time to prepare, just tell your recruiter you can wait. Be persistent. No matter how long the wait is if you want it you can wait and it gives you time to prepare, at least in my case.
Andy Thanks for the reply brother. I'm deciding between holding out for an Option 40 or going off now and shooting for TACP. Good luck with that 18x!
@@Sus_blues but if you fail 18x u get sent needs of the army so u might end up a janitor
1:39 If it is "required" why not make it part of the officer program?
I'm in ROTC is ranger school an option for me?
How difficult is it to go to Airborne School in army reserves?
Not hard just push it
Are those your patches on the wall or what are they
hope to join ranger coz am die hard
Is it a similar process for officers to get into airborne school and air assault school? How can an officer/officer candidate increase their chances of getting into these other schools?
Airborne school-branch infantry and you’re guaranteed to go to airborne and ranger (as long as you pass the rpa at the end of ibolc). Branch armor and get assigned to an ibct in an airborne unit and you’ll go to both.
Air assault-get assigned to the 101st and you’ll go.
Really just depends on your unit. If they’re airborne you’ll go to airborne regardless of your branch
RSLC, Jungle, Mountain, Sapper!!! Three tabs right there!!
I don't think the RSLC "Recon" tab is authorized for wear on the uniform. Kind of like the "Sniper" one. Whereas the Jungle one is only authorized when serving in the Pacific... Upon passing the school in Hawaii, that is. Kind of like how the Arctic one is only authorized (After passing the school) when serving inside the borders of Alaska. Whereas the Mountain one is a lot like the Airborne one, where it's only if you're currently serving in a Mountain Command.
No, it isn’t authorized but the skill identifier on your record will be and the training will give the tools needed to advance far beyond others.
Anthony Sforza look at them as prerequisites to victory when attending other schools.
Anthony Sforza I would also take a closer look at the description and compare it to descriptions of the tabbed schools.
Quick dumb civilian question:
Can a civ take the ranger course and become an honorary ranger? You know passing the course, but not being enlisted in the military?
No
What? No lol. It costs the Army money to send someone to Ranger School, not even going to mention the *huge* liabilities that letting civilians in could cause.
Even if it were a possibility (it isn't) the only way you'll be a Ranger is to serve in one of the Ranger Battalions within the 75th Ranger Regiment.
Ranger Qualified =/= Army Ranger.
Passing through Ranger School gets you the Tab, passing through RASP gets you the Scroll.
If you are national guard you HAVE to pass pre ranger before you go to the real ranger school
Is opinion 40 still available?
What is the timeline for this?
Does anyone know when basic should go back to normal
A Buddy of Mine after the election most likely
Sir can I get an advice to you coz I'm so confused is it true that someone in us army can't retired if he don't paid all the taxes,my friend is 50 years old currently deployed in Kabul afganistan, his asking me to help him to get out in his situation to pay all his taxes so they will allow him to get back in USA
That sounds like a scam to me. If they're requesting money, it's a scam 100%. The Army automatically withholds a percentage of your pay to cover Taxes (both federal and state). While deployed overseas any income earned is excluded from income tax, and any bonuses are also excluded.
Do some research on Military Taxes (specifically for Active Duty Army Service Members), learn about what is taxed, how much, etc. Many states waive income tax, and the Military generally only taxes base pay.
Also, they're not going to hold a Soldier hostage on a Combat Deployment if there is tax issues. Especially since the US Military is effectively reducing its footprint in Afghanistan as a whole.
If he fucked something up, he'd be brought back to the United States after his deployment to figure it out.
Everyone goes for Ranger, Airborne, Pathfinder and Air Assault!!! That’s why always reject people!!
Is it a solid idea to enlist as infantry and then eventually try for Ranger School later on?
Holden Bishop If what u want is within infantry then yes it’s a solid idea I want to do special forces but I’m goin in as infantry 11x first then imma try out once I’ve got a taste of the infantry life
@@paladindanse3522 I think that's what I'm planning to do also
What are the odds of getting sniper school as 11B in the national guard?
Kendog 31 keep getting expert and see what happens!!!
Isidore Branham cool man that's the goal!
@Jimmy Bisson Not true. My NG BN has an entire section of B4-qualified guys.
Try out for scouts platoon and get into the sniper section. They’ll send u to sniper school soon enough.
Do u have to shave your head for ranger school?
Can’t do it cuz I can’t pop my ears:/
I always thought officers never went into combat?
Depending on the MOS you choose. There's infantry that are officers. Essentially they don't want someone who is non-combat trained, trying out for the rangers. The odds of being chosen that way, is EXTREMELY rare.
How often do you hear of Marines going through Ranger school?
A lot of recon units send people there in order to get promoted to higher ranks in those units but the regular marine might be able to go after they re up. I heard people who had marines in their class saw all those marines drop out
There's a few Ranger School documentaries on CZcams. In two of them that I saw the guy that graduated top of the class were both Marines, I'm guessing they were in Recon. The current Commandant of the Marine Corps is also a graduate of Ranger School. A lot of infantry generals in the Marines were also Ranger School graduates. Robert Mueller, Special Counsel for the Department of Justice, is also a Marine and Ranger School graduate. There's also a documentary on the Best Ranger Competition and the winner was a Marine. It's definitely possible to go as a Marine but you probably have to be in MARSOC (Marine Raiders), Recon, or be an infantry officer.
So I can participate in RASP after AIT?
I think you need to go to airborne school before you can go to rasp
I don't know what I wanna do in the miltary... ik I don't wanna be stuck behind a desk, I wanna see combat but I don't want to see too much combat lol... like war. Id rather do covert operations. Idk what branch to apply for what I want
