  • This video will teach you how to simplify down the golf swing by having a centred pivot. I progress up the body and focus on 3 keys to perfect your pivot and get you into an amazing top of the backswing position.
    A centred pivot in the backswing allows your body to be in the correct position to make you have an effortless downswing. When amateurs shift or sway in the backswing they are creating far too much work for themselves to do in the downswing.
    In this video I progress up the body and focus on 3 keys to perfect your pivot and get you into an amazing top of the backswing position.
    The 3 keys in the video is focusing on the pressure and weight in your feet. How the pelvis works and rotates in the backswing. Finally i go into something that isn't talked about enough and that is thoracic extension. All 3 of these will make getting into a centred pivot easy. This will allow you to effortlessly shift into your lead side in the downswing which will allow you to generate that ball then ground contact.

    I started doing the 60/40 on the lead leg 2 years ago. Works like a charm.
    Combine that with my 2 favorite swing drills that has done wonders for my ball striking:
    The split hand grip drill. This drill is great for back swing and down swing feels. Also swing path feels.
    The swing fast and stop hard drill. The best impact and post impact drill out there.
    You have to work at these drills and keep working at them. No secret there. What you put in is what you get out.

      Interesting parallel - also 68 and that’s been my problem, for the 2.7 years I’ve tried to play. I hit on part of this by random chance playing this week - the keeping weight on the left during backswing - but didn’t realize what was actually happening so didn’t capture it into a habit. I expect your third point is part of the rest of the solution, and will see what I can do with that next range session. Thanks!

      @@Gilesgillgolf well, a quick mat and range session in the garage was positive. I worked on the thoracic extension a bit - I think I was keeping my head down at address to keep my sight line above the bifocal line, and when I turned, it took my head to the trail side. That may be a challenge that might not be easily solved without a distance monofocal lens. However I was able with a little straining to keep the left eye on the ball and not involve the bifocal line (if I cross that, I’m hitting the ball on faith alone!). That and staying conscious of the left leg weight made it easier to scuff the mat in front on practice swings. I tape my club face to see contact, and I put a microfiber washcloth on the mat about an inch behind the ball and step on it to seat into the mat (if I don’t, the wind moves the cloth). Out of 15-20 balls, only one hit in the washcloth enough to pull it any, and one other caught the edge and wrinkled it a bit. So my % fat shots was down. I had several (5-7) shots on the blade edge or just first groove, but the rest were about right. It’s promising. Thanks for the video and explanation!

Let your lower body lead by 3-6 inches forward of where it was at address! Then turn. Of course the forward and turn are happening simultaneously at full speed but you need to slow it down at first. • @Gilesgillgolf

    Thank you. The hard part seems to be is on the backswing, the lead hip comes back towards the ball quite a bit, so how do we get it back open on the downswing so quickly? Do we put pressure on the lead toes, ball or heel of the lead foot?

    • @Gilesgillgolf
      @Gilesgillgolf  Před rokem

      Pressure goes to the ball of the lead foot in backswing, then you push into the lead foot as you finish the backswing and start the transition. After that you push out of the ground and get the rotation part from there

Not gonna lie, felt a little weird but after doing it wrong for so long, of course it's going to feel weird. The biggest change was your thoracic extension tip at 5:56.
