Have you ever heard of a Fetiform Teratoma? I think that’s what the deformed lamb was. It’s extra cells that form a non living mass that can even have hair, bones and limbs. They’re usually so small you don’t notice them. Super weird looking things but pretty interesting. Haha
A tumor with random cells that can have elements of: hair, muscle, and. It's a germ cell tumor and can be malignant or benign. Can grow near sacrum near tailbone, ovary's, testes. It was the baby lambs evil twin...can grow off the blood supply of the lamb.
I was thinking hydatidiform mole.
Tell Rebecca WOMEN FARMERS ROCK. 🥇🏆❤️
I love being able to watch all of this! It can feel like you are going through your journey alone (well for me anyway) but when I sit down and watch all of this, it is motivating and inspiring all at once and the fact that we get to see all of the good and not so good, the successes and failures, it makes me feel not quite so hopeless when things are not going right. So much love and keep it coming!
As much as Rebecca charges you for scanning ... you might want to by your own ultrasound machine and scan for yourself. The machine would pay for itself pretty darn quick.
For sure & let's face it she is wrong ALOT. I guess if you haven't you don't mind wasting it.
OMG the whole world has moved on. Brilliant scans! Bottle fed lambs growing as I watch! Subscribers total ballooning! And spring is here! For each little disappointment as a farmer there is a whole load of joy! Congrats.
So true Susan! Thanks so much for all your support!
It's fun seeing women working together farming. I'm sure it has always been the case but it isn't seen enough. My grandmother homesteaded on her own in North Dakota in the early 1900s. I wish I had film of her efforts.
Greetings from the netherlands (holland) wonderful farm, you are doing a wonderful job. We wish you all the best. We have also sheep they called quessant from france.
Hey Johan! Thank you so much!!!
That conception rate is awesome!!!!
I really love your videos. We are just starting a teeny weeny tiny flock compared to yours. We are retired to 15 acres in Kentucky and hope to get up to 30 ewes. Thank you for the REAL view of sheep farming.
Thanks so much Fiona! I was so relieved to see the results. Last year's conceptions were dismal at best... So changing back to my original system and having it work was huge for me right now! A much needed win.
Kentucky people rock!!!
@fiona How is your flock looking now that it's been a year? I always get curious about other homesteads, sorry!
Sandi. I really like your vlog. It's very informative and encouraging. Please make a vlog about the meachine or equipment that you use on farm.
Thanks! I'll put that in some video idea notes!
Sandi! You have went up 150 subscribers in just 12 hours! I swear a month ago you were at 5 thousand subscribers.
Hey Myles, I know! Its so amazing!
Just over 3000 new subscribers the last 30 days according to socialblade, which is great! Glad to see people catching on to this wonderful channel :)
@@andyv3965 and 2 months later 20k subs?
@@Alucard45000 Yeah, 8000 new subscribers the last 30 days. Which is awesome!
SHUSH! HELLO?!?! 😂😂😂😂 that editing lol
LOL.
Nice scan. That was cool seeing the ration numbers! Just putting in my vote for a Brussels market video, when the time comes. :)
Thanks!
Sandi, just wondering, when you scan, some of the ewes are a little jumpy probably more so with ewe lambs. Have you ever thought about adding a short section of alleyway in front of the scanning box so there is always a ewe standing in front of the ewe that is getting scanned? I used to scan a lot of ewes and that is how we did it, but the alley system was designed that way. The ewes seemed to be calmer in the scanning area if they have one of their buddies standing in front of them.
Great idea!!
This iss what we do every time but only found out 2 years ago
You use ultrasound to scan for lambs?! Oh god, we do live in the dark ages around here.
Yeah us too lol but it is cool to see all this gear in action. So much of my time is spent on checking to see if we have ladies in labour and leaving with not today ringing in my head lol. Yet I'm sure as our flock grows we might have closer spacing with lambing but yeah it's however nature feels like round here lol
Same 🤣🤣
Your dog looks like he’s having so much fun 😍
She loves it... just wish she was trained! Have to do that!
Love your vlogs! I admire you and your hard work ethic. Can you do a vlog just focusing on lamb development and milestones after birth...or just show more cute baby lamb footage.
Great idea!!
CZcams is the best way I get Canadian content. Kansas girl. At least 5 channels that I watch and I wish I had more.
Hi Sandi I know your very busy but I would like you to take some time to congratulate yourself because holly sheep you are amazing 😍😍😊
lol, good one!
LOL! thank 'ewe'!!
yes, a newbie here. wow, the noise though glad your wearing ear protection. in fact, when I watch your next video I'm going to wear mine. Lol
HAHAHA! So true!
Congrats on the scan and holy those lambs look like they doubled in size. Great job
They are doing well!!
Could you speak about what you do with the lambs from here? I know nothing about sheep, so I am wondering all sorts of things, like: how long do you raise the lambs for; are they to be sold on at market; are any for meat; do you keep some to breed with; are any for wool; how long is a breeding sheep kept; how many lambs on average will a breeding sheep have over a lifetime. Thank you so much for these videos, you are inspiring.
Hey Jane! I will try to cover this stuff... Likely if you go through my older videos, you'll find most of this info... but maybe doing one with all this info in one place makes a lot of sense! Thanks!
Hi Sandi it's Sunday we got snow again welcome happy spring 🤣
Hey Tony! So did we! So depressing! LOL
You do have a side gig! CZcams 😊
Indeed! My side gig seems to take up a lot of time! LOL
Congrats on the scan results and the 8500 subs....you'll be at 10k before you know it!
Thanks Keith!! For all your support!
Congrats on the scan results!
Thanks so much Andy!
Respect from India. I have a dream one day I will construct my own integrated farm. Now I am working as Assistant manager EHS in a MNC.
Learned that square in agriculture class. It was just one of those classes I thought would come in handy.
Wait you’re from Ontario?! So am I !!! I’m a horse farmer tho. I’m in the Guelph area but have lived on many farms throughout Ontario
We are about 1.5hrs west of Guelph!
Congratulations on your scanning!👍👌
Thanks Murray! A much needed win!
Love watching your videos. They are fun original and very educational. Personally I’m working on putting together a business plan for my own sheep farm. You rock keep it up 👍
The fact you are putting together a business plan makes me SOOO happy!!! Its so critical to have a plan. Good luck!!
Sandi Brock thank you. On a side note what are your thoughts on feeding lactating ewes crack corn vs hole corn. Is it true crack corn looses nutritional value? Personally I have fed mine crack corn good or bad?
I kinda wish I lived closer and you all offered a mentor program. I would love to come help and learn.
I am from Saudi Arabia I hope you all the success.........
Thank you!
This reminds me of “Little Bo-Peep” & “Mary Had a Little Lamb” from Nursery Rhymes (1983)
Did you find out what the pink thing was? Was it a deformed lamb??
Yes. Just a fetus that never developed.
Wondering if your sheep are ever outside? Not sure if it’s just for video purposes that you always show them in the barns. It looks like you have a very large farm.
They stay inside... We have a heavy coyote pressure just outside the barn walls...
Thanks for responding. Not sure how I came across your videos but so happy I did. They are very informative got me thinking about raising sheep. Something I know nothing about, however have raised other farm animals and have family with experience raising sheep. I will definitely continue to watch and hopefully learn. Thanks again.
Thanks for the feed calculations, never saw it in writing before, 95% pregs! Wow! I thought you had trips and quads from AI, I have about 40 girls and 18 newbies, but never have any more than doubles (don't really like bottle feeding except on one older ewe, my bottle baby just had her own baby, nice...), what do you attribute the trips and quads to? Really like to see the variety of the videos, what you do to get from point A to point B, thank you!
Thanks Jim... I would say genetics likely plays a big role, that mixed with good nutrition. But, you'll see that they aren't quite this prolific out of season. So although the last group that was bred in season had many multiples, this particular group bred in January had many more singles scanned... The April and July breeding groups will also likely have way less multiples.. so I think seasonality also plays a huge role.
These are not bred AI, they are bred with CIDRs to cycle them and then bred with rams.
I love sheep.
Just......very allergic to them......
Hello Sandi.. you were going to look for your records of average birth weights of your last lambing - prolific breeds :)
Yes! I did that! Thanks so much for reminding me... average birth weights ended up being 9.67lbs
@@SandiBrock woow! Thats amazing! It is outstanding for multiple births! Your birth rate was around 2.3 I believe.. that makes 10 kilograms per ewe.. excellent!
great video keep them coming maybe someday we can get lambs M. 👍👍👍👍👍
Great!
Is it hard to have your own grazing fields ? That would save so much work. And congratulations for successful lambing season.
We don't have grazing fields... and we have a heavy population of coyotes, so we choose to keep them indoors for their safety.
@@SandiBrock i see, good luck then and when you think of stopping vlogging ... just don't lol
I wish my heart to work with you on the farm .... I have experience in raising sheep from 15 years
hyyy give ur pho no plzzz regarding sheep
Can't wait to start my sheep farm ♥️
So awesome! Good luck!
Your doing such an awesome job love watching your videos...
95.7% great pregnancy success 👍
I love watching theese befor I go out lambing or herding or scanning the ewes, I don't know why.
Actually I do, it's because I 😍 LOVE your vidios
I want to see your Rams, and know a little about your pedigree for your flock. Also, we're you raised on a sheep farm, in 4-H or FFA?
Hey Tana! I will do a video on the rams.. thats a great idea! And maybe I should soon do an introduction to me and how I became a sheep farmer... But the quick answer, no. Born and raised on a dairy farm, got married, worked for my husband's family's broiler breeder farm, then the sheep... But maybe worth a video...
I wanted to asked you a question I had 9 pet lambs but sadly 3 died but that night when I went out to feed them they were happy drinking and they were full of life the day before and they just died then I was wondering if it ever happened to you and do you know what could of happened and I just started feeding them some nuts and small amount of hay
Hey Amy... I'm so sorry they died. And often its the things we don't see... Like, did they get enough colostrum those first hours of life... That I'm afraid is likely the biggest reason we lose lambs "for no reason". We think they are drinking, but we really don't know if they are getting enough... and that is quite frankly the foundation for a healthy lamb.
Hi Sandy
Sorry , but I have a question:
What is your income number per month for your business? I have a farm with 90 ewes and I’m losing money after 2 years of working in such business! I buy the feed and I have a worker in the farm ! Does it worth for you please?
Great question...
So, our biggest cost savings each year is our growing our own feed... and really is the reason we expanded the flock to 450+ from 150 ewes in 2013. Even switching over a couple years ago on the lamb finishing side from a fully prepared pellet to our now corn/supplement ration has again reduced a huge cost. Is there anyway you can integrate a pasture system to your farm? That could ease up on labour, and most definitely help with feed costs...
As for losing money... We've lost enough over the first 3 years for sure. I knew nothing about sheep, market prices were awful, health issues with the purchased stock... the list seemed endless. But as I worked on developing systems and working with my vet and feed guy, we've turned it around and finally in the black (after 7 years). We are fortunate to also run a large grain farm that most definitely subsidized the sheep those first few years.
@@SandiBrock Thank you so much
I love your videos your making me jealous my lambing season doesn’t start until February 🥺🥺
Thanks!!
Thank you too for your videos
Yay, the last lambs (for now)! You certainly look more rested too. Maybe you have answered this before, I haven’t looked yet, but when do you wean the lambs and does the timing differ between those with moms and the bottle babies?
Great question Dianne! The bottle babies I wean much earlier (around 35 days), and the lambs with moms I wean at 8 weeks of age...
Sandi Brock Thanks! Interesting that there’s such a difference in timing. Now I want to know more, like how it affects their growth rate, meat quality, fat ratio/distribution, etc. I am not necessarily expecting you to answer, the information is probably out there I just need to look for it.
I love sheep
I really admire you. You're really hard-working women in Turkey I wish I watch with pleasure if you industrious like you goodbye
I agree! North America FTW!!!!!!!!
wait.. what?
Why dont the scanner have an no back gate in her crate ??
I thought that now that lambing is finished you would enjoy the New Zealand TV program Country Calendar including Esp 4 2019 a Ram sheep stud - this TV program has been on our TV in NZ now for over 40 years and covers all types of farming in NZ including milking sheep and what we crossed to make it work for the NZ conditions czcams.com/users/results?search_query=Country+Calandar+2019+sheep
Thanks Christa! I'll give that a look!
I love your videos! I live in Toronto! Do you have visits to your farm for volunteering?
Cool! (go Raptors! LOL) . We live about 2.5 hours west of TO.
Hello Sandi! Thanks for the great job, pls do you milk your ewe to get the milk you feed to new lamb?
I will milk the ewe only if she is engorged and I'm trying to get the lamb to suckle. Otherwise, I use powdered colostrum that I can mix quickly. Time is always the issue when I'm lambing so many at once.
Thanks, this will be helpful
lovely. lets see your dog! what is his story?
She's is many videos... She is a border collie, Australian Shepherd and Blue Heeler cross.
These vlogs are so interesting! Just wondering how was Rebecca actually scanning the ewes? Does the probe go inside or how does it work?
She actually places it just under the ewe kind of in front of the udder (externally). Much like an ultrasound used on a pregnant woman's stomach.
@@SandiBrock ohhh interesting! I'm a vet tech from new Zealand and I have only done cattle pregnancy scanning. Awesome that it can be done this way in sheep, much less invasive!
How would you feel about taking on an overseas student for work experience during lambing next year?
Hey Ella! I get asked this question a lot! Someday, this is a possibility, but currently we have no where for anyone to stay...
@@SandiBrock thank you for the reply, that's a bit disappointing as I currently work part time on a goat farm and would love the opportunity to work with sheep instead.
I'll definitely keep in mind!!!
Sandi you didn't mention your scanning percentage
Its in there... right after the scan part I have it written.
OK
You’re a super woman and yes my heroine, you go gal good job 👏
Awe! Thanks Elly!
More and more
Great videos keep it up
Thanks so much Lyle!
Hello dear
Looks great
Thanks!
I love lambs.
What do you do with the dead ones? Just curious
compost
This might sound bad but what about lamb skins...
Will that be your creep ration and the same ration when you move the lambs to the other barn ?
Great question! No, I transition this 18% fully prepared pellet to the 14% corn/supplement ration slowly by hand until they have shown no potential for gorging (learned that the hard way) and then they are on the feeders where they can eat free choice.
Did using cidr increase number of baby
No. Cidrs do not affect the number of lambs, however the PMSG added after I pull CIDRS can potentially affect number of lambs. But, this group doesn't appear to be a crazy number of multiples like the group I just lambed.
do you butcher a lamb or 3 for your own eating, or ship everyone,, in other words do you eat your own product? i think many would like to see the diferent cuts and what you can make from others, i worked in that area in my 20's
We do get some processed for ourselves and some family members, but not too often... But good idea for a video!
@@SandiBrock THANKS

Do you house your sheep all year round? 🇬🇧
I do... we have a heavy population of coyotes just outside the facility which makes me leery of pasturing them... I think perhaps in the future, we will look at integrated it in after lots of educating myself in outdoor management!

Those sheep are good girls cute sheep
