I will never forget this audition. He sung beautifully and my heart broke for Simon knowing his mother had just passed away.

I cry every time he sings this song. The words are so powerful. I never heard the original singer sing this. But he sings it amazingly.
I will always remember this audition. When I heard it sung by him I cried. I had lost my mom and felt so lost. But this audition helped me to let go of a lot pain. So thank you Josh for doing this audition.

The year is 2024 and the emotion is the same as when I saw it for the first time.

I remember where i was when i saw this for the first time ... i sobbed !! This vocal throws so much emotion its legendary ... ❤ needless to say i watch this regularly ... Bravo 👏👏👏❤️

To be fair it seemed fairly easy to make Cheryl cry, not because she was a faker but where she’s too soft hearted for her own good.
Simon though, even in the midst of his own personal tragedy, you somehow expect him to remain stoic at all times. There is a heart in there after all. Deep down but it’s there.

Nice touch at 4:54 where Cheryl glances at Simon and immediately realises he needs more time to compose himself, so she tactfully goes first to let him gather his thoughts.
Say what you want about her as a singer or even a judge, but Cheryl’s kindness and compassion can’t be faulted, she’s a nice woman. Poor Simon, we all like to call him ‘Mr Nasty’ but this audition proved he has a heart after all, he’s not as much of a cold and emotionless robot as you think.
