Very laid back, thank you for this video, I'm not getting into ROM hacking but I was pretty interested in the whole process and the techniques that the developers of favourite games used. You've opened a lot more windows for me to educate myself with this. Keep at it man, hope you're well.
You’re welcome! I’m so happy I was able to inspire you. It’s genuinely one of my favorite topics to cover on this channel. I am well, and I hope you are well too. There will definitely be some more of these videos in the future. Thank you for your kind words :) !
Oh i didn't know you also studied music. I know its been a minute since you've touched gba roms, but maybe you can talk about how gba music was made/played on gba hardware? Im sure that looking at garbled sprites would drive anyone crazy after a while, lol.
That's a great idea! In my next video, I was going to combine the two and talk about how video works on the GBA. But I will definitely go back to music for sure. Thank you for suggesting that and watching the videos! I'm glad you enjoy them.
@@aura-audio Oh i like ur style. You break down comp sci into a digestible format. You also talk about gba code which is often ignored as NES code seems to be more dominant. I remember agonizingly looking at the code in yugioh gx duel academy in order to change the dialogue and it was daunting but I did it.
Thank you! Yeah the NES video is machine code that is more or less how a Gameboy looks software wise as well. I’d love to do more source code videos with sound. Source code is a lot less daunting.
Oh I see. I thought you were referring to the video I might have linked in this video. Nvm lol. But yeah, I don’t know much Assembly. I’ve been using the TONC C libraries which are great.
I've been using tile molester a lot and simply could not get use to it, then I switched to yy chr and I started getting use to that more, I was actually able to change the looks and colors of an actual sprite in a game, I changed the starpost in sonic advance 1 and 3 without any issues
That's amazing!! I'm glad you found a good program to use because I've been looking for some for a while. I'll definitely have to do a video on this. Thanks for pointing that out 🙏🏻!
Yea that can be tricky. There are also tile maps which help things get pieces together. So many topics to explore 🙌🏻! I did check out yy chr, and I like it better than TM. It has an interesting tile editor too.

I'm still trying to make progress on rayman advance but I at least found a sprite I've been looking for so that brings a smile to my face.
That's awesome! Does yy chr automatically account for compressed sprites too?
@@aura-audio I think I know what you mean by compressed sprites now, not a single one in the game properly lines up

Ever heard of rom hacking tools
I have. I'm hoping to show more of them on this channel, such as CrystalTile2 or no$gba.
