The heartbreakingly beautiful cello solo in this movement almost always overshadows the violin entrance. Ralph Evans' solo, for the first time in my listening experience, shines an equal light on the violin. It is absolutely magical.
The playing is very beautiful. But the cellist disobeyed Schumann's direction to tune his bottom string down a step, to B-flat. Schumann provided sufficient time for the cellist to effect the pitch change.
Works beautifully on edited recordings, but iffy when one string pulls the cello’s bridge so far that the rest of them go out of tune. I used to count eleven turns on the C fine tuner and half a turn for the G, but it also depends on the string gage. Actually, there are two opportunities to make the adjustments, neither of which is really functional. Great performance!

That is Schumann's fault
Come on… Too much trouble for such a short passage. Other strings could go out of tune in sensitive instruments.
