A strange, but very acceptable way of gaining notoriety on Zelensky's part. I'm glad to have learned this. An interesting point, but not my biggest takeaway. I was shocked at the statsitc of 95% of Ukrainian people welcoming Jews into their homes when asked. Incredible. In general, they're a tough but generous people.

Yes, complex with respect to the Catholic bishop, etc. but also complex with respect to Zelensky himself. I am not sure making extensive use of social media is a good reflection on him but I am also put off by the tolerance of neo-nazis in the Ukrainian military and also by a few of his videos from his comedian days where he is dancing in stiletto heels or pretending to play piano with his private parts.

I am Jewish and three of my four grandparents emigrated as children from Ukraine in the years before WWI. When they left it was the Austrian province of Galicia. They talked very little about what it was like before emigrating. So I thank you for filling me in on a huge gap in my family history. I watched your whole Jewish History Lab History Lab which filled in a big gap in my knowing of Jewish history. So much thanks. And I believe you said your ancestors are from Galicia, too. If so, it is likely we are cousins.

      Please tell Putin.
He is believing he is 'chosen' to bring the Orthodox Catholic Church [not Roman] to greatness and Kiev is part of it. This was started by St. Vadimir in the 900's.
Putin's mother had him baptized secretly. They say he still has his baptism necklace.
So being chosen makes it much more serious than land grabbing.

I'm enthralled. Your lectures are way more interesting than anything on Netflix. I'm 1/2 jewish on my father's side, but hey, no one is perfect, right? My father's family name is "Schneerson" and we have information placing the family in Surazh, Russia, in 1899 when my grandfather, Iosif Solomonovich Schneerson, was born. My grandfather Iosif was shot during Stalin's purges in Dec 1937 by the NKVD, and my father lived as the orphaned child of an enemy of the state until 1955 when my grandfather was posthumously pardoned ("reabilitated") along with countless others. I was wondering where else I might be able to research my "Schneerson" family tree going back even further in time. I understand the significance of the "Schneerson" family name among those in the Hassidic community because of the life of Menachem Mendel Schneerson, so I've been meaning to research my connection to the Schneersons who lived in Russia/Ukraine around the area of modern Surazh in the Bryansk Oblast. If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated, but please bear in mind i cant read Hebrew (without google translate). This is the public information I was able to find about my family www.sakharov-center.ru/asfcd/martirolog/?t=page&id=17285

Schneerson or Schneersohn (there seem to be branches of the family with both spellings) basically means "Shneur's son". The bearers of this surname I am aware of are descendants of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, the founder of the Hassidic community named Chabad. Menachem Mendel Schneerson was his descendant and last successor. Of course, in theory, the same surname could have been created independently from another Shneur. But in practice, the name is rare outside the Chabad group, so I would suppose you probably are a descendant of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi.

In the Soviet - Polish war of 1920 he was impressed into the Russian army and after having escaped and making it back home to Bryansk, the Poles came to town and impressed him into the Polish army from which he also escaped. Being AWOL from two opposing armies he made it to the USA via Hamburg in the summer of 1921, at the age of 17.

Dr Abramson, thank you for the interesting lecture! President Zelenskyy and PM Shmyhal are both Jewish and are both very robust people and politicians along with one of the chief rabbis in Ukraine Moshe Reuven Azman all remain in Ukraine to serve their people and to fight off the enemy! I have studied the Holocaust in the past couple of years out of personal interest. It was a common theme that US and Israeli (Palestine at the time) Jews used to criticise the European Jews for not resisting, which was not always the case, for example the Byielski brothers. What we see now is the defiance and the determination of the 21st century Central European Jewry (geographically Ukraine is in Central Europe) leading the fierce fight of a nation for its survival. What more Jewish story than this one?! I am not religious, however started praying 🙏🏻 for Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine few times a day! Glory be to Ukraine and its heroic people and president. there is no other such popular politic, democratically elected and much loved since day one of him being elected as a president (which I suspect cuts into put ins ego even deeper)💙🇺🇦💛💙💙🙏🏻

@@orwellianyoutube8978 since you said that you are genuinely interested I will reply, but I will try to keep it brief. My original intent is to thank Dr Abramson for his devotion to us his students, and add to the promotion of mutual love and respect, not to RISK detracting from his youtube channel by filling this space with my religious views. To me, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are one. God is so infinitely unified that it is hard for us to understand. To single out one is to go against God’s nature. God has revealed so much about himself to us, but he didn’t reveal it all at once. Over time more and more was revealed to us in his holy word. To think that he has even come close to telling us everything about himself, I think is an overestimation of our understanding of him and our current ability to understand him. I look forward to a time when our relationship with Him will become more perfected than it is now in this mortal sphere. I truly believe that He has sooo much more that he wants to share with us after we become more able. I LOVE the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. If I understand correctly, all Jews are taught to do this as well. In this we can be brothers. God said He is one (echad) in Deuteronomy 6:4. I have been taught that this word can be translated as unity. It is the same word that is used in Genesis 2:24 when husband and wife are told to be one. God is perfect in this as He is in all other ways. I believe the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are so unified as to be spiritually a singularity. I believe that Jesus of Nazareth and all of the Holy prophets have tried to help us come to a better understanding of Almighty God and develop a closer relationship with him. By the way, many have claimed to be followers of Jesus, but have displayed that they were not really by their cruelty to others which includes unimaginable cruelty to Jewish people. As not all who are among the Jews are not true followers of God, not all who claim to be Christian are not actually followers of Jesus.
As I said, I LOVE the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with all my heart. I am under the impression that Jews are taught to do this as well. In this we are brothers (and sisters). I also believe that if we go forward with Faith in the God of Abraham, we will come to a closer relationship with him, and a better understanding of him, and be raised up to be with him. I hope to see you there (which means we are both there). May all the blessings that God has to offer be yours!

How do we know that God isn’t working through Putin just as much? Those who hold power, like Russia and Putin or any other formidable nation, only do so THROUGH God/logic (god and logic are the same thing, it would be illogical by definition to say otherwise) and because they have an understanding of/with God.
All you see as “evil” is an illusion. Nothing can possibly fight logic/god and succeed.
All things must be logically reasoned in order to be logical (real and existing) and stable. The sovereignty of a nation like Ukraine cannot be an exception to the rule. I don’t mean to sound insensitive to anyones suffering but most people do not understand what is truly going on, and that the chaos must burn itself off in order to get to a more perfect order.
All things are going to plan and people wouldn’t find it all nearly as traumatizing if they understood the simplest piece of logic in the world, that being that nothing is nothing (0=0) and that truth, as well as logos (consciousness) is eternal.
Know this so you can know everything and the purpose of everyone, not just zelensky and the people on “our side”…
Logic/god does not make mistakes, therefore nothing is wrong besides our view of reality.
LOGIC is an ABCDE pattern just like TORAH, ANGEL, DEMON, RIGHT & WRONG and many more, but interestingly that pattern of 5 non-repeating letters is also found in PUTIN, BIDEN and TRUMP
There is only ONE logic and one logos (consciousness aka the field of logical reasoning) at the end of the day and all fights are a fight with ourself. So, stop fighting, and stop fearing that you can or will be killed. Life does not die, just as white does not become black and light is never going to be darkness.
I hope this helps some people break away from some of their fear and nihilism. This is not a belief but the only way things can work according to Logic/God and both the logical proofs I’ve done as well as what the Hebrew scripture largely describes.
Order can be made and it’s better than chaos, so it is being made, it’s just a process that involves a lot of suffering, as that is inherent in living with chaos, and is the unavoidable cost of paradise (soundness and completeness of all existence and creation).

Too many people claim to want to serve God, like it’s just gonna win them Gods favor and free shit if they sign up….that is naive and the opposite of service to the divine…that is self service, and unfortunately most “believers” (be a knower fuck belief….know logic and then trust in it…never blindly believe without reason…the scripture even says “know” god not “believe” in god if you read it carefully) are in that boat.
Those who truly serve God are signing up for more than their naturally allotted share of suffering. The history of the Jewish people should make this clear.

Kind of a no brainer really...) is a construct not a creation of the construct like you, me and the rest of Logos (consciousness)....it is the construct of logic itself...You disagree? Good luck thinking up a rebuttal without using logic and logos...You lost the debate as soon as you started replying....
What Aristotle should have recognized, and theres a possibility he did and his work was just lost or destroyed (chaos, like all things, likes to be itself and preserve itself), is that the "unmoved mover", especially if youre proving it exists with logic, must be the construct of logic itself.
Boom argue with that you illogical demons, who want to make Gods unto yourselves but WILL NEVER BE GOD!

You have made me understand why my parents grandparents my great-grandparents who emigrated to Argentina and my parents immigrated too or immigrated to the United States from originally Ukraine and Russia but even the Ukrainian Jews that I'm related to fervently held on to their Russian identity. I recently discovered that my mother's grandfather Solomon Morosoff was from Kherson Ukraine. My father's side of the family might be Ukrainian also because we have German or Austrian last name, derived from Wechsler but it's spelled apparently in Ukrainian spelling, Weksler. My entire life I thought we were Russian Jews but we're probably Ukrainian, I guess. Now I think I should probably check the immigration records of Argentina of Jews coming from that part of the world and see what the statistics are at least that might be a good way to go but I have to look at every single maiden name and last name and see if I can find the actual city names to know where they were from and when they were from there because the borders changed.
When you explained though that Jewish people had the tendency to try to safeguard themselves by aligning themselves or assigning themselves the identity of the most powerful entity in the region it suddenly made sense why there was this ferocity of denial against Ukrainian identity. I also never understood why Polish Jews and Russian Jews didn't like each other. Now I guess it kind of makes sense because of all the wars and the water changing and it probably had to do more with politics than anything.

I was 6 years old when I was called a ‘k’ and a little Jew. I was threatened to go outside by myself after my family decided to leave in 78. I never had any chance to get into any college in Ukraine, while in the west I studied and graduated in different colleges. Most Jews converted and married Ukrainians and were called little ‘k’ by the families of their wife’s. Find one Jew who graduated best Ukrainian universities in medical schools, etc. unless they paid kickbacks, etc. Please stick to the subjects you know. Yes! Please, hier:
Symon Petliura and Józef Klemens Piłsudski (right), Vinnytsa, 1920. Source: Wikipedia. Public Domain. This year, 15 February marks the centenary of the Proskuriv pogrom. On this day in 1919, a detachment of the army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UPR) massacred around 1,500 Jews in this West-Central Ukrainian town. The unit’s commander Ivan Semesenko employed the common antisemitic canard of “Judeo-Bolshevism” as justification, accusing Jews of disloyalty to the UPR and sympathy for the Bolsheviks.
The massacre was perhaps the bloodiest of the Russian Civil War, and it was part of a much larger wave of antisemitic violence in Ukraine between 1917 and 1921: soldiers serving the Ukrainian People’s Republic, the “White” Russian Volunteer Army, independent warlords, bandits and, to a lesser extent, the Red Army murdered, raped, assaulted, mutilated and dispossessed tens of thousands of Jews.
The army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic was perhaps the worst perpetrator.

Thank you for making this complex subject more understandable. My father grew up in western ukraine and was a survivor of Stalin’s labor camps during the war. I believe he was in Novosibiersk. He told me most, if not all, his fellow laborers did not survive the camp. Despite this he had a great affection for Ukranians and Russians alike - which was difficult for me to understand because of his camp experience. But it was more of a love for the culture than the politics. Later in life he helped the Ukranian diplomats in New York find living quarters after they could no longer stay in the Russian diplomat residence after the Soviet fall. A lot of the history he explained to me was difficult to understand because he said he had Polish documents but lived in Belarus, white Russia, or Ukraine. It never made sense to me until I realized that the borders in that area were constantly shifting from the conflicts through the years. So while he was born in what was Poland at the time, the same territory was Ukraine at the time he spoke to me about it. He wanted me to visit Ukraine and his home town with him after it opened up in 1991 but we were never able to organize it before he passed in 1996. This is the greatest regret of my life. Anyway thank you for helping me with the history. I look forward to viewing the other videos you made on the subject.

Let us estimate that amongst the 3/4 of a million Jews in the Kingdom of Poland at the time, there were between 500 and 800 Jews employed in collecting taxes for Polish landlords, a horrible and loathsome job. This would mean that 98 to 99% of other Jewish men were employed doing something else (farmer, dairyman, kosher butcher, mercantile trade, cobbler, etc). Does the loathsome trade of the 2% justify the extinction of the rest? Does it justify the flaying of flesh off bones and the skin off the flesh of adults and infants alike? Throwing the masses of slaughtered people into unmarked graves? Perhaps if Chelminitzky had confined himself with executing the taxmen and their Polish landlord employers, one might point to the the Justice of throwing off the yoke on the enslaved Cossacks.

4:00 Quite interestingly, Jewish people in post-war People's Republic of Poland were quite active in those 'controversial' fields of study and activities which could and often were politically and socially sensitive, like history, journalism. It wouldn't be an exagerration to say that a significant portion of Polish intelligentsya who questioned the communist regime were of Jewish origin, Bronisław Geremek, Jacek Kuroń, Adam Michnik, to name a few. Also, within the regime's supportive circles, one could find a few notable figures of Jewish extraction who, as journalists were providing a 'softer' tone to the government's stern voice: the recently deceased Daniel Passent or Jerzy Urban, the notorious government's spokesman of the martial law period, nowadays editor-in-chief of NIE, a satirical-political weekly newspaper.
