- This episode we have new pond syndrome on the 5k indoor koi pool.
Also take a look at a water quality pen that measures pH, TDS, salt and redox.

Looking good...onwards and upwards 👍🏻
Yeah things are starting to settle now! Thanks 😊
Great job mate keep the video's coming
Great vid again, well done this year with the BEES.
Thanks, they've not been so productive for me with honey this year but I'm strangely not that bothered as I just feel at peace for having them about! I left them a lot of honey for themselves which they've gulped 😆
Nice update Keith. Loving this series with the indoor pond. The ugly stage of the water/new pond.
Just a thought, seeing the large amount of water and as you have more fish, would it be worth to add a bio/moving bed after your eazypod? Just worried that the eazypod might be good enough for the mechanical but not enough for the bio.
Hi 👋 monitoring it, nitrite is steadying now but if load is too much then yes I could add more bio be it moving bed or shower. Cheers
great job pal
🍻 cheers
Good work mate. I get the odd issue with flashing (scrapes all clear) and I think it may be the amount of bicarb I’m using to keep KH up, which as you say is making low levels of ammonia toxic to them etc. I have that chart too, but should probably be looking closer at it and all readings etc. 👍🏼
Hi, they're settled now so coming out the other end! I don't mind low kH of 1-3 if it's stable which it normally is, then my ponds only need a boost if at risk of crashing.
What is the modification you done for the fliw please?
Hi, Do you mean flow? I'm not understanding your question, sorry. I've altered the flow outlet again 😅 on my next video!
@KoiKicks at the beginning you mentioned cutting a slot so the flow goes up not down or did I hear wrong sorry?
@scrag68 I don't know 😆 I've watched the start again and can't see what you're referring to? I changed the return outlet to be at the surface with a horizontal 1" 1/2 pipe with slots in, so a short surface spray bar but don't think I've mentioned this??
What’s the main reason for the murky water? And how might you be able to prevent it because I def don’t want the water to be murky
It's simply the pond cycling, it's going through an ugly stage with growth on the pool etc I've got salt in the pond to support the koi in the cycle. The salt will kill off algae which is making the water murky, I'm also adding koi clay.
@@KoiKicks shouldn’t the uv kill the algae?
UVs don't kill algae, they make very fine algae clump so mechanical filtration can collect. In my case its not proper algae yet, its more of a biofilm like a surface slime, the salt I've added is knocking this back so effecting water clarity. Worth noting that water clarity is no measure of water quality, many obsess and chase gin clear water to the detriment to koi as koi would much prefer a murky green water.
so if I was to make basically your setup with a few changes such as no bottom drain, would it be this murky? @@KoiKicks
@jamthelion707 Not if you don't add salt to the pond, the biofilm would remain on the pool walls. I'm also adding pond clay which makes the water cloudy. Once the water matures it will clear up no issues.
