Just got mine last week. I am a huge JRL fan. Smoothest clipper I have ever used. I use the slow speed for detailing. It allows me to get higher up in the fade and get dark spots without taking too much hair off. The thing about this clipper, that is so underrated is that the blades do not get hot. They definitely warm up a little bit. But they do not get hot like other brands. I have a style craft instinct clipper. That thing heats up like the sun after 5 min
How about Instinct with jrl blade? I have jrl clipper but i want to buy clipper same as Instinct to cut faster, but i want this onyx too.. So what you prefer for cut faster
@@akhmadkusairi6759 you could try it. I don’t know if it would have the same cooling effect because the motor in the instinct is much different. I personally think there is too much power in the instinct for how big it is. I would personally go with the Onyx. But that’s just my opinion.
On your instinct I had the 1st model they came out with. It ran 9800 rpms. But I have the newest version now. And it runs at 8800 rpms and that made the blade run way cooler. It never get hot anymore.
@@desmondmitchell5602 I wasn’t aware that they came out with another model of the instinct. I thought it was a brand new clipper. I love the way mine cuts. But literally after five minutes the thing is burning.
@@jasonmercurio1928 yeah did you get it when it 1st came out.. if you did return.. they didn't announce this problem or the motor speed change but I have a rpm app on my phone and I figured it out...
Broooo. I’ve been rocking with you for 3+ years. I literally owe you my career since I learned how to cut on your channel. It’s just crazy to see the quality in video back in the day to now. You do all your own editing?? Just props. The quality in subject matter is always on point but my salute to you my guy!
Got same 2020c since 202, without battery degradation and it charges quick.Still using it today and I have two clippers in case it goes out one day. Since it opens up to 3.5mm Im able to fade from blade to 1 to 2 then shear over comb pretty simple steps no over-engineering needed.
Just the stand, the color, and the extra hour of runtime is enough justification to buy imo. I mean some companies just change color way and add a $30-40 pricetag on the same exact machine.
I always use the slower sleep on my JRL i use it like a oster fast feed even brought the King Clipper mod for the JRL to Oster Still Blade and Cutting Blade just use it for Blending
This is honestly miles better than any stylecraft clipper, only reason why it makes noise with the dub guards is because it wasn’t made to use with the dub guards. The dub guards even rattle with my style craft instinct out of the box
This is the best clipper in the world right now imo. Super quiet, 5hour battery life, cuts super smooth, slightly more rpms, blade is great (basically faper blade), lever is my favorite click lever out of all of them (basically a free click lever hybrid). The guards work good i just dont use them cause they are not as secure as other guards
a lot of play before the clicks. is something rong about construction or is something like extra tool between the clicks for fading for more freedom to our moves? i ask because i take one onyx today and i notice that
@grgeorgiadis Its a hybrid. Its not a set click you can put the lever whereever you want. I always hated click levers because it takes away your freedom. If it were up to me id have all my clippers with a traditional lever but this is the next best thing so i dont mind it at all.
The sponginess is because the lever is made to be a combination of both floating and click. Kind of the same idea as with the faper blade. Best of both worlds.
I waited to get the gold 2020c since I heard there were issues with the original. I’ve had issues with certain types of hair but I don’t know if it’s the clipper or that faper style blade. I love the two speeds, it’s like have a Senior/Magic combo in one clipper.
The only problem is that you’re not reviewing the best clippers out XTRIMUSA clippers by XTRIMusa made in New York they have their own blades and guards and the Onyx jrls are amazing clipper and still nothing can beat my saber trimmers awesome review.
I got the gold JRL clippers a few months ago, with the gold taper blade and it’s a fantastic clipper. I will not be upgrading. I also have the rebel clipper an hour ago clip of as well. I put the gamma ceramic stagger blade onto the JRL clipper it made the clipper quieter cuts so much better than the blade that’s already on there. Please try it’s amazing specially for fading. So try the gold taper blade with the gamma ceramic stagger cutting blade together 👍
that lever is so badass. I hate these click levers now i have always preferred free levers because it allows you to be way more precise in what length you want to cut.
There’s 3 different types of levers. A spring click, a click, & a floating. The spring click is the tightest & the click is a lil looser so it’s like a floating but u still know where the clicks are. I know this cause my Rebel came with all 3
@@CZcamsBarberAcademy I’m not sure about the new JRL(since I nvr had one) but I’m not mistaken bout the click & spring click. Mof u don’t even have to take my word for it. Just view the contents of the Rebel or Instinct, you’ll see
I have the previous version. I changed to a fade blade because the taper blade was crappy. So far so good.Probably not going to get the updated version!!!
Do you recommend jrl onyx just for styling the beard at home with a fade on the sides do you recommend it? Because I'm debating between the wahl magic clip gold model... what does it mean?
I have the gold Jrl , but I did change the blade to a style craft faper blade . My top clipper on my station And I do use the slow mode for all my detail work
My #1 clipper is XTRIMusa I have one with the taper blade and other with the fade blade I have other clippers and I just keep going to the XTRIM clippers. I have thought about using the jrl but my next purchase will be the instinct X clipper I see the longevity. Great review I see jrl in a different light now.
I have the old jrl one with the taper blade the other with the fade blade they work great but on thick and dense hair it can be a challenge meaning trying to remove the faint line can be tough I will admit the blades were not zero gap other than that it’s great
Hi Eddie, I'd really like your opinion on this! I have the LoPro Influencers(faper), X-Ergo(faper), and JRL 2020(taper), as my daily drivers, but I have been becoming more and more interested in the Rebels over the past few months. Do you think it would be worth my time to check them out, or in your opinion would I just be wasting money with the other tools available(I trust you to give me your opinion without bias :))? I'm always on the hunt for something that will be more comfortable and improve the quality of my work, but I also know I'm addicted to buying clippers and my bankroll is low enough, haha.
Those are good clippers that you have, the new Rebel has a different motor and a updated cam follower. It’s really actually a very nice new Clipper. It’s definitely one of my favorite. It’s much more quiet than it has more runtime than the influencer edition.
@@CZcamsBarberAcademy Thanks Eddie! I'll go ahead and grab some then - especially knowing about the motor and cam follower - that was one of my big issues with ordering to begin with, and if that's fixed, my potential gripes should already be solved!. Appreciate your insight!
I only ever use the slower speed and sometimes the fast one but I always used the slower speed in school even now. I have mine since august of 2020 need the new onyx ones though. 😅

It’s my favorite to use the Jrl 2020c and yes slower speeds help with after the fade is done to detail.

The slower setting is good for thin light hair or thin in general. Its more forgiving
I like that it has play between the clicks. More options for your blending.
