He is so utterly convincing, so totally believable, I actually thought he had become an alcoholic and was filming his scenes drunk.
Forget Shakespearean actors, forget Oscar winners, this guy is unmatched in his ability to act, not just drunk, but alcoholic drunk with seething resentment and bitterness.
John F. Dunsworth ( who played Jim Lahey in Trailer Park Boys) is the greatest drunk actor of all time.
I do wonder if they say to him "Look, Steve, the next few days you are gonna be playing Phil as a piss head, so feel free to come in a bit wasted for your scenes". He is just so convincing.
