- We all have patiently awaited the return of 86 Eighty-Six Cour 2. Now Episode 12 is here and I couldn't be any happier. You can definitely say Anime of Fall 2021 has officially begun now. Lena has undergone a lot of growth as a character to be where she's currently at. The whole outfit change speaks for itself in terms of mourning. If we are talking about the Red Hair stripe... its used to show she's not one of the Alba. Also that Opening song from amazarashi is truly amazing. It fits the tone of the series perfectly! Thankfully the weekends seem to be blessed. Tomorrow Mushoku Tensei Season 2 will finally start! Anyways can't wait to watch 86 Episode 13 next weekend!

Tbh I don't like it, the blood red looks to fresh to fit in for me, I think I'd like it more if she used a darker red, or dyed more than just that part of her hair.

86 is such an amazing show with its symbolism and its characters.
I gave this show a fair amount of praise on the level of VIVY back in S1, but after seeing the vibes S2 is giving off. It truly is a GEM for 2021 anime. First off, they gave us the changes without changing the essence of the show that we all came to know in S1. The first half of the episode was just a big callback with satisfying development when you notice the changes. Then comes the reveal into a start of the world building aspect of the show along with new and already interesting characters. SUS Ernst, very important child that is a lot more knowledgeable than she seems, Chocolate girl for the new 86 leader. But the most hype thing of all that they are setting up, is when Shin goes back into the battlefield and everyone in the F.O.G. sees what a beast he is in the machine.
I heard author of the LN is heavily involved in the anime adaptation which is not always the case. You can clearly see the love thrown into this adaptation which is just awesome.

She said in an interview that she's mostly just approved designs and answered questions from the staff, which isn't all that different from what other authors do. I don't get why people think she's being more involved than that.

It is one of the highest rated visual novel on steam and VNDB along with steins gate, fate and etc. The vn is also the inspiration and reference for Hajime isayama's Attack on titan. It's quite a shame it isn't getting any hype outside japan. Although, I can't gurantee if the adaptation will be good but I think it's worth checking out.

I love your name 😂 and also I absolutely agree not many people are talking about this show it's so underhyped and underrated it's sad tbh.
Ever since Lena verbally smacked down Annette in episode 9, birthing the Bloody Reina persona (or, in the anime, Bloody Regina, which in itself is okay because Regina is more recognizable as "Queen" than Reina is, although it loses the wordplay, as Lena's name in Japanese is written as レナ, or Rena), she has been a cold-blooded savage who doesn't put up with anyone's crap. What I really like is how she's learned from her mistakes in how to handle the 86 and the Brisingamen Squadron, especially Cyclops, truly respects her
lena's growth is so fulfilling to see, and she's no longer alone either, her relationship with her friend seems to be stable, and even with her demotion and status she has gained a bit of an entourage. Incredible character.
There are a lot of things to love in this episode alone. It parallels the series’ 1st episode, showing how the world is still the same but that Lena has changed. It is also heavily implied that Shin and the others were saved by Rei before ending up in the Federacy. Lena’s red stripe not only showing how she doesn’t share the Republic’s philosophy, but the color red also represents the blood shed by the 86. I’m really excited to see how this will turn out.
Something i noticed is that Bloody Reina is kind of a play on words. There aren't any l sounds in Japanese so the closest we have is an r sound, so Rena. Also vladilena sounds like bloody lena and it has roughly the same katakana.
Also, Bloody Reina... Iirc, Reina also means queen, hence Bloodstained Queen.
86 is so good and I'm so mad it's still so underrated.
The BD sales also do not sell well which makes me kinda nervous for future adaptations. I hope 2nd cour will nailed it
U mean overrated? It’s like a 8.14 rating at my anime list. I feel like the characters kinda ruin it for me. The characters and their past look boring. Even though I kinda forced myself to watch season 1 I felt No sympathy to the characters that died

Also my prediction from the symbolism of how the skies are darkening in San Magnolia and other small details is that I think they'll get invaded by the legions.
And maybe Shin's squad comes back to the battlefield to see if Lena is still alive (because of the last scene in the OP)? IDK that'd be dope if they get to meet at the end of the season.

The new opening really does give a glimpse of what to expect this season. I really do recommend that you read light novel because some stuff just hits heavy and I wonder how will they adapt it into future seasons.
I'm glad Shon the others are all alive and together, it'll be interesting to see what they will all be like in the Federation as they'll actually be members of a normal society!
much respect to lena. she was like the st magnolia all over as seen in her entire new look she has every color of the republic flag. she hates the system but she loves her country.determined to her core with no one to rely to. she has very ambitious "childish" ideals but knows how to utilize her position and politics and resorts to underhanded tactics when required. these are ingredients of a great revolutionist. She's not naive or entirely reckless she is making the most use of her being related to the general as well. she knows she will shoulder the country alone later and is probably gonna die but with 86 and Shin's message as her inspiration she did her best to prepare for it and did not give up even knowing her death would be inevitable. people ask how is she a major at 16 when she has what it takes like she was the only one who literally step up against the legion. god I admire her character and I'm very happy for it.

The thing that stuck the most to me after this episode is that Frederica is best girl.YOU CAN'T CHANGE MY MIND.

@@ChibiReviews first, you need to know that Volume 1 was written as a standalone book, as it was submitted for the Dengeki Bunko prize (and I believe it won). To qualify for that contest, the work must come to a conclusion - it can't be a "to be continued", which is why what is now known as volume 1 comes to a complete end (and why that epilogue is really applicable to the end of volume 3). 86 became a series afterward because it was that popular. Volume 2 basically resets the deck, most of it introducing us to the Giad Federation and its main characters (Ernst Zimmerman, Frederica Rosenfort, Grethe Wenzel, and others), as well as Shin's, Raiden's, Theo's, Anju's, and Kurena's journey to find a life away from the battlefield and their decisions to join the Giad military (not much of a spoiler - it's obvious from the OP). I honestly don't see us spending more than 4 or 5 episodes in Volume 2, because the real action that turns everything upside down happens at the beginning of volume 3.
One thing to note is only 2 or 3 of the 10 or so chapters between volumes 2 and 3 covered Lena's side of the story, so after this episode through to near the end of this season, almost everything additional we get from Lena, Brisingamen Squadron, and San Magnolia will mostly be anime original content. As it was, her scenes in this episode, while they were in volume 2, were very creatively painted by A-1 Pictures, but you won't hear me complain about that because it was done very well.

I am actually surprised that Lana is still taking to her old best friend again after what happened with them in season 1 but she still act like her old self again around her
Annette has actually become one of Lena's biggest supporters and allies behind the scenes. She's the one that's enabling Lena to coordinate with the other squadrons against the will of her superiors by continuing to modify her para-RAID. Lena using Shin to shame Annette into acting for once changed her - she now realizes there are things she can do to help, and she's not sitting on the sidelines pretending she's helpless anymore. And yes, the two made up, but (as this isn't in the LN, I'm only guessing) it appears as if they're keeping the antagonizing relationship in public for appearances as a cover for Annette's sake.
after watching thos first episode, i feel like season 1 is just the tip of the ice berg.

If you want to know how big the series secretly is, Chibi... literally all of Amazon & Barnes and Noble sold out on copies of Vol 3. Only copies being sold were off bootleg people with used copies for $94.74. Still can’t buy any copies till now.

Hey chibi , just to inform you , stick with the anime , you are 100 percent right . It’s THE WAY TO GO. The content covered in today’s episode , is covered in the prologue and around chapter 3 . The anime does not cover the 1st 2 chapters . It’s changing the order of events. Which is actually makes more sense in the anime , then in the light novel , the beginning of volume 2 was so confusing, I thought I had missed something or got the wrong volume .

@@rickchakraborty2087 I think the anime is giving Asato to “fix” things he/she(?) didn’t realize were misses at the time. For instance, (hopefully) telling more of Lena’s side of the story in these 12 episodes. (It was blown off at the time as “this series is called ‘86’, not ‘Lena’”, the reason for the heavy Shin focus at the expense of Lena for volumes 2 and 3. That idea never really sat well with the LN readers.)
Watched it finally and I was kind of surprised Shin and the crew were alive. I thought they died last season. Lena developed finally and her strand of red hair looks good on her. Anyway am I the only one who is missing the 1st cour ending by Mizuki ?
Avid was definitely a masterpiece of a song, let's see what ending they have in store for us this season.

When I saw the red stripe in her hair in the first episode I gasped, I love the detail in this series. Its easily walking into my top 5.

I'd say less uprising or Federation attacks more San Magnolia is about to be HOSED by the legion and the 86 are going to survive, too many hints like the first episode that hinted to the race inequality. When Lena said she was the only one providing good kill numbers against the Legion, the laid back and lazy attitude of her superiors, the fact that their artillery is massively undermanned and in poor condition.
Seems to me the author is hinting again just this time that San Magnolia relied too heavily on using the 86 as a fodder shield that they neglected any other kind of defenses or advancement compared to the Federation and thanks to Black Sheep, the Legion probably KNOW that.

I saw her dying that lock of hair red (on the left hand side, behind her ear no less) as a kind of loss of innocence or being bloodstained, in a sense.

The anime definitely added a lot of great stuff, but it also omitted quite a bit. For example, the first few pages on the novel already make you understand the situation of the Colorata (a term that didn't even appear in the anime) a lot better than the entire first cour of the anime. It mainly comes from the difference in format between the anime and a novel. While the anime is more casual and easier to digest for an average viewer, the LN delves way deeper into the complex details of historical, psychological and philosophical aspects of the story. Personally I really recommend experiencing both, since you'd get different things from them. Obviously it'll depend on everyone's preferences, but I absolutely love how thoroughly the novel explores all of it's themes, while the anime, leaves some things out. I understand why that is, so it's not exactly a flaw, but it makes the novel well worth reading, especially if you're interested in knowing more, or there are some things you find unclear, after watching the anime.
make me wonder why some MAL reviewer who have even read the light novel calls it "teenage war fantasy". maybe i just havent watched much war anime or tv show. but its still a pretty solid story
Yes, I think so too, anime change and adds different things for the average viewer to enjoy, while the novels are digging deeper in worldbuilding, racism, or even characters,...
in my honest opinion 86 should be in the top 3 for AOTY with ease. everything about this show is done to perfection. some people will argue against that purely bc of it being mecha. but A-1 pictures has always done a stellar job with their mecha animation in general. The show lacks nothing, visuals, sound, story, and now world building in s2. this is everything I want in an anime seriously. its perfect

@@NARUHOTEL When I think of Shin and Leda. I always come up with the bloodborne connection in a way, except less messed up. Leda, "Bloody queen of Magnolia" and the Hunter, Shin "The Reaper". Not in a tragic way, but the parallels of the two.
the fact the general want to kill them and another one want to used them a soldier since they all fought Legion before the president decide to make them his family and let them live a normal life and it seem Federica need a family to so he probably did it since he lost his family and her to I guess and want them feel like a family and we see the new squad of Lena' being a badass and not give a fuck about what the other said and she probably the only reason why Legion haven't reach their town in the first place

the singer of this opening also did one of the my hero academia openings
12:26 of season 1 ep 11 (not the recap ep), the little girl empress from this episode is shown breifly when shin's brother's AI consciousness is shouting about protecting the princess. So I'm guessing the 5 of them are most likely in some virtual reality prison or something. With the end of s1 with Shin being decapitated and the black machine hinting at that being Shin, this seems to make the most sense.
That wasn't Shin's brother. That was... another sheperd.
Need to check it out after I finish 1st season
