"I'M NOT DONE YET!" Haaa!! Please understand how great this man was. A concert that was well over 2 hours., this was his ENCORE before he ended with Purple Rain! The man was a BEAST onstage. Perfect seats. I saw "The Kid" 8 times. This was concert number THREE. We made our way up front. Seeing him grow as a musical genius and an amazing humanitarian was a blessing. From New York in 1980, when he was just finding his way, all the way to my last concert. Musicology on.... April 21, 2004. :[ I bought tickets in 2011 and gave them to my daughter. She wanted me to come with her. I told her that she was about to see a true musical genius and she needed to take a friend that loved him as much as she did. Yup, I was crying and shaking when I gave her those tickets. "I've seen him 8 times. It's YOUR turn now." BIG HUG. MANY TEARS. I dropped her and her girlfriend off at the Coliseum in Charleston. Memories flooded me. Young, wild Prince in crappy costumes. Older, more sophisticated, incredible control over every aspect of his art. I could hear the roar of the crowd from the parking lot. I cried like a baby and DIDN'T KNOW WHY. I was happy for my daughter. But, something was wrong. I knew that I would never see him again. I pulled myself together when the crowd started spilling out of the building. I see my beautiful, 16-year-old daughter. (I had her when I was 40 years old) She's crying. HARD. So is her girlfriend! "What's WRONG?? ARE YOU TWO OK??" "Ohhh!! MOMMM!! He was wonderful!! We never wanted it to ENNNND!!" Thank you, Prince. Thank you. I love you and miss you so damned much.
That’s wild. Good memories eh? I saw this tour as well but was somewhere at the back.
I'm jealous
He was magical...his body went thru torture to give us those performances, as much as he demanded perfection, he lived so humbly...Regular seats were 12.50 back in the day
So jealous I wish I saw him once
@@stephaniepapaleo521 Interesting comment. Can you elaborate please? How did he live?
Prince was the only man that could walk into a room wearing lace, makeup and high heels and steal every woman in there. There will never be another Prince. RIP
I didn't even have a girlfriend and he stole her
@@shethingsd Exactly, like a purple bandit in the night, cleaning house. Leaving NO crumbs behind!.....Seriously, I haven't heard about another musician coming anywhere close to Prince's musical talents in my 47 yrs. Who else plays/played as many instruments as he......masterfully? Or played every insrum. on their own album at 19 yrs old?.......I'll wait........🤔😴
He did the slip n slide 😆
Or your man lol
Dam he fine as hell!❤❤❤
That entire band is his instrument.
They don’t make ‘em like they used to.
Both MJ and Prince were entertainers,
not singing in a studio w auto tune assisting.
Multiple talents from magnificent men.
Alot people should though
Prince did it HIS WAY. From the beginning to the end. Anything different and we probably wouldn't be having this discussion about how he was the GOAT.
I just can’t imagine anyone ever arriving on the music scene with his talent, excitement and production levels of performance. We had Little Richard, Elvis, James Brown, Bowie, Madonna and MJ but nobody comes close to Prince. All round genius. Since him who’s been at that level? The musical talent with singing n dancing? Nobody. We were so lucky to have witnessed him live. RIP legend.
Madonna has no talent
james brown is a HUGE influence on prince.(as is jimi hendrix) james brown set the bar for these kinds of performances. go check out some live footage of james. there would be no prince without james brown czcams.com/video/i4_atsdJDcQ/video.html
Happy Heavenly 66th Birthday Prince!💜💜
I had a completely shitty day today. Came home and got the alert that Purple Rain turned 40 today. Instantly put on let's go crazy and I was projected back to my 16-year-old self. A 56-year-old man dancing around the house, singing, screaming and crying all at the same time.
I feel so much better now.
Thank you for your music Mr Nelson.
Long live Prince!
Same way...I'm 43 and fell in love with him when I was 3 when Purple Rain movie came out. I could never afford his tickets. Now that he's gone I can. His passion for music and his deep cuts of music makes my heart hurt and smile at the same time.
I guess we should always celebrate his genius.
I was lucky enough to see him once. In 1985 had just turned 17 and I drove several of my friends to New Orleans and saw this tour in the Super Dome. It was a wild night!
I was mesmerized@@melissaw5215
One of the greatest musical geniuses who ever walked the face of the earth. Period.
Prince owned the whole stage, it was his play ground 😂. This generation misses authentic talents.
Absolutley!
I believe that.
I mean he did literally play basketball on it 😅
No doubt
@IM THE BEST Nope.Talent is a gift. So if you're truly talented, you are gifted.
I watched this concert a huge number of times. Been a fan since he only wore thigh highs and a trenchcoat. I remember radio banning his music until after midnight because they were so afraid of it. Rest well, sir and thank you.
There will never be another Prince
It's not "Old School" It is REAL MUSIC. Real instruments & Real vocals!
Naazir, Peace God 👑☥I didn't know you were a Prince fan
Good hair, no cell phones, live was live.......
Real talent....🎤🎸🎼🎺🥁🎹🎷
I know that’s right!!
Right
I was amazed watching this as a 13yo kid back then. I’m still amazed watching this in 2024.
🕯️ *The candle that burns twice as bright.. Burns half as long. Thank God I was here to witness his brightness. His light will immortally shine and lead the way for other artists to follow.* 🕯️
Prince was definitely a star! Above all stars!
Imagine doing all that every night on tour. This man's energy levels were divine.
Soooooo DIVINE 💋💋💋
At the same time and in retrospect, it makes me sad to see this because all that extra strain on his body was what caused him so much pain later in life and, ultimately, what killed him. He was an amazing performer, that's for sure.
@@mellowyellow415 Never thought of it that way, but sounds like a reasonable analysis. It may have also went that way for MJ and perhaps for more dancing performers on pain subscriptions.
Sadly Prince said he almost had a nervous breakdown doing this tour....so much at once the movie, tour and he was still dealing with Vanity leaving even though he had many women.... 💜💜💜💜💜
One of the reasons why he would swap out band members so much. And to think he would still do jam sessions after all the crowd went home!!
This band was TIGHT. Funky as hell. Prince will always be the GOAT, no one can convince me otherwise. I miss you, PRN 🥺☔☔☔☔☔ the music has defined me. I wouldn't be who I am today without this legend. 🎵🎵🎶🎶🎧🎸🎸🥁🥁
The one and only .... there will never be anyone ever close to the musical genius of Prince that is the only guarantee you will have in this lifetime
What an amazing performer. Simply the best to do it. He sang. He danced. He played. He performed. The level of creativity he has is astounding.
Instruments, played instruments, taught himself
I once read that Warner Brothers used to take their other artists to Prince concerts to show them what a great concert should look like.
Glen McClure If the artist need to learn then yes, Prince was the man to see.
XD
I believe it! This is true showmanship!
@ijcn0jir3nvjn3fjcifn hahahahaha
@@kyleramone9825 prince said James brown was one of his mentor.
I do hope before he passed Prince knew how much he was loved . Such a talent .
I am hoping so too. 💕
If I was to DANCE to this song for the entire 13 minutes--I'd have to be hospitalized afterwards! Leg spins, jumps, Holy-Ghost stomps--all in high-heeled boots, even! Hell, my feet are hurting just watching this legendary man move around. And he's singing, playing the piano, and leading the performance?! A mere mortal wouldn't dare do all that--but a PRINCE can do it!
😂😄😅😆
His moves were awesome, he had such energy. I could watch him all night.
I know right! I wasn’t till I developed chronic osteoarthritis and sciatica that I understood what he went through
Yes he was one and only!
That's why he was on pain pills, bless his heart, his feet & legs were wore down. Love Prince Forever💜☪️💜
Prince was the only person who could wear high heels, satin and lace and be the sexiest person in the whole building. The world lost a brilliant treasure when he passed away
he only wore the high heels cos he hated being so short
Freaks come out at night singer was a kool cat also who could pull off styles and still wyle the ladies
And take your woman with your permission
You haven't seen me in heels and lace
Totally 👍
The Purple Rain tour was one of the best concerts I ever saw. I caught three of Prince's live shows and watching this brings back so many memories. He would always play for nearly three hours. Amazing..I miss him every day.
He gave us every bit of himself..the spilts, the hours of dancing, the jumping off of pianos, all non stop in heels. Prince was NOT a drug addict. He didn't take pain medicine to get high he took it to survive free of pain and to fulfill contracts he made to please us. I will forever miss him but he deserves his rest. RIP with Angels Wings
I had a double hip replacement in my 40s. I did crazy workouts/did splits most of my life but not like him. I’ve been watching Prince vids recently. That’s a lot of wear and tear on his body. Wonder how long he had it? Don’t know much about his religion or if it’s true that he couldn’t have surgery bc of his religion. I remember asking my neighbor who are JW. It sounded like yes or something that sounded like yes you can have some procedure or alternative. I didn’t want to keep asking him or think I’m going to start some altercation. They’re nice people. Knew them over 25yrs
@caroldaronch1974 he did have hip replacement from my understanding but problems persisted. He also had problems with his hands. I always wondered how he played the guitar so well bc he was a small man, but his hands were big for his size. The heels I think created the problems. You will see in his later videos he no longer wore the heels. Part of me also believes he was tired. He had given everything to us on stage. He was a Jehovah Witness and very religious. I read that his wife Mayte was told of the problems with the baby before delivery and the Dr wanted to do different things and Prince rejected everything bc he felt God wld take care of it. They cldnt change the deformities so I don't know what the idea was. He got 3 different women pregnant but they all had problems with miscarriages. That tells me the issue was more than likely with Prince and it seems he had a hard time excepting that. He really wanted kids but it wasn't to be. The things he carried privately were probably incredibly heavy. I really believe he was ready to go even though it wasn't his choice to leave here.
@@caroldaronch1974neighbor lying if they r jws. They always try to save face by saying there's an alternative. Truth be told..as a friend of an Ex Elder...You cannot if it may require blood transfusion. Most dr.s won't do the surgery if you refuse to have the blood on hand incase. I've seen many die in pain bcuz there WERE NO alternatives. They throw "alternatives " put there as if it's always one. Most if the time there is none. Sometimes even geniuses get played by religion if they are in emotional pain 😢❤❤❤..........He was a great man and very cool in person. I miss him.
What great commentary! YES!
You are right there are people that only take pain meds for pain. I’m one of them. I had undiagnosed head injury for 16 years that caused unrelenting headaches at all times. I was on pain meds that were given to cancer patients and getting fentanyl shots. The only time I had relief was when I slept. Doctors thought I just wanted to get more drugs. I didn’t. I just wanted to stop hurting. Finally I found the right neurologist that knew what was wrong. I’m off pain meds completely now. There is that 1% that really need the pain medication. Don’t judge someone until you’ve walked in their shoes
I was there! I was 14 I'm 47 now. I still remember this. It was a great concert
I was there, too! I was 16, first concert ever. Obviously, that show spoiled me for life.
c6ft2006 Had the pleasure of seeing him in 2010, and he did not stop for a good three hours. He bounced and sang and played and danced right through and damn, did he look good doing it. Looked as good stepping off the stage as he did coming on it. I'm so glad I saw him live.
c6ft2006 I'm so Jealous :(
I was there too! I was at 5 of the 7 shows. Not telling my age lol! All the times I've seen these videos I never knew they were at the Capital Center!
Wow, 5 out of 7?!! That's incredible!
Prince was on something different.
👍🏽💯
Bottom line. Plain and simple.
James Brown, Michael Jackson and Prince groovin' in heaven.
That band is FONKYYYYY
Now that was CHURCH!
My wife and I saw him live in Scotland, Diamonds & Pearls tour, 1992 Glasgow. Awful support acts (Shakespeare's Sister, anyone?) but as soon as he hit the stage, everything changed ........... at one point, the band were in full on jam mode, Prince went off, in between numbers, to change but he knew the cameras were still on him, him being 'changed' outfits by gorgeous women backstage all the while 'winking' at the camera, knowing it was going out on the huge screens out the front. He appeared back onstage up the top (the stage was three high) next to the drummer, did a somersault, bounced off a kiddie trampoline, somersaulting, again down onto the next level where the horn section were, landed doing the splits and the mike stand just coming up to his mouth (a la Purple Rain) and just carried on, as if nothing was happening. I was gobsmacked, never seen anything like it ever!
Wow! Love it! 💜💜
Gobsmacked I love the lingo as much as the story lol
I saw him twice in the 90s, his energy and precision is just insane lol😳😂😂😂
And you never will!! The GOAT!
what a ff'in great memory u have there! one for the books ;-)
This should be required viewing for all up and coming stars. He wrote the book on how to be a star.
I was at this show. The first of six times seeing him. No one else will ever come close to his genius.
So lucky...
Best musician Evah...
No one - Ever, I agree!
Lucky you, what a performance to see live!!
You are absolutely right... A genius
Wow! Wish i had been at this show. I was at one in the 80's and caught a guitar pick he threw out in the audience. You are absolutely correct...no one will come close to his genius. Well said!!
“Ian got no money but honey I’m rich on personality “💯
Prince is representative of what every artists WISHES to be. He is a genius! His stage presence was electric⚡️I believe what’s even more inspiring about him, is how he lets himself lose control without losing focus. He wanted the audience to feel his passion, his love for performing. Witty, charming, bold, sexy and talented! That’s the one and only, the artist formerly know as Prince. Who is loved by so many including me❤️❤️❤️☔️💜💜💜🤍🤍🤍

Put Little Richard, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and Santana into a blender, add about 10 sticks of dynamite, and out comes Prince.
Have to remove Jimi Hendrix from this equation, Prince as good as he was, will never be in the same class as Hendrix!
@@tiehign4187 Not true...
@@chaideelove1819 Being that Prince himself has made the same comparison in quite a few interviews, then it is true. Having an opinion is fine, being completely ignorant isn't! I can see from your videos that you can barely put a sentence of words together and suggest that due to your very limited intelligent and education that before posting further comments on CZcams you should research them first, being this is how children educate themselves nowadays you should be able to manage it? Not only was he a brilliant performer, he had a hell of a band, too.
He sure did. His band was so tight. All in their prime, top of their game. This performance is joyous from the first to the last note. It’s so great to have him on film like this. I am enjoying people’s memories of him, too. He is just mesmerizing. Always was. I’m the same age as Prince. His music brings me right back to some truly great times. I saw him later in his career on the Musicology tour. It was, and he was epic. I remember like it was yesterday. And his presence on stage was very elegant. Beautiful artist.
He ain't done yet!
Prince paid tribute to James Brown on this one. Coming up on 40 years. Those of us that were teens during this time were fortunate to witness one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Thank you, Prince. Rest in POWER!

Performer, singer, author, musician…ALL IN ONE: PRINCE.
I am just seeing this video and I am very happy. I was in attendance at this very performance and ironically I met Prince the night before at the Hyatt Capitol Hill where he was staying. I worked as a bellman and took his tour luggage to his and the band rooms. The band was very friendly especially Wendy when I delivered their luggage. Prince was in his suit by himself when I got there and we spoke briefly as I put his belonging away. But he had a mysterious aura with him I remember. He was a very good brother and I miss his greatness!!
God has his back. God bless him

Everybody who meet Prince mentions that mystery about him, thats cool.
My wife and I saw Prince perform at the United Center about 7 years ago. We spent $200 a piece for tickets. After the 3 hour jam session I felt like we got over on Prince. The most electrifying entertainer of the 20th Century
He had it ALL! More talent than in 1000 people put together and he was just warming up. ❤❤❤❤

Prince has not gotten enough respect when it comes to him being a Great Bandleader. But it is something that True Prince Fans and friends already know. He was A "Great Maestro". Every band member in all of his groups were extensions of his musical soul. He also got the best out of those musicians. They often surprised themselves. But Prince had a way of motivating, Encouraging, and challenging other musicians. He knew their strengths and weaknesses better than they did.
CorrectVision3 I agree, the late Maurice white , did accomplish alot founder of EW&F prince and Maurice white mind me.of each other, only thing Maurice was not flashy, but great leader, composer, arranger, musician , producer, he did not dance like prince, and not wild like him, but they have alot in common both.artist was musical geniuses, in the 70's EWF, and prince i discover prince 1978 fell in love with him.

It's called Cocaine. One of his best friends..the legendary Stevie Nicks..was also on it and they both shared the same dealers. Hell..many of the biggest stars from that ear were on it too. Donya Oshana Cuz today's "musicians" are just for show and cash, they have no talent.
I think the current generation relies too much on technology and it comes across as inauthentic and soulless. There's nothing like musicians playing real instruments, it's cathartic.
It depends what type of music you listen to from this generation.
Joyful Amoeba there is no music like this with such a powerful stage presence today. I listen to all different types of music and go to a lot of live shows. If it was around I'd be listening to it. It's just not to this level.
This gives me chills everytime I watch it. Prince was an absolute genius. Only Prince could get away with wearing that outfit too. ❤
Mmm mmmm, lord yasssss, and in high heels! Have mercy on us mortals, Purple Majesty!!! 🤩

Not only did he get away with it, he owned it!!
Sly from the family stone got away with it too..Lol🤩🤩🤩
And so did Jimmy Hendrix💜💜💜

Breathtaking performance…
My God he was blessed. And I saw him live twice.
Prolific/sublime.
And didn’t play his guitar on this. WOW
.. the chemistry... the alchemy.. you can see the influence of "the godfather of Soul", James Brown, on Prince ..& MJ 🩷
For this video to be thirty three years old and in such great quality that you can hear him flipping the microphone stand around, I watch in complete amazement. I miss you my man, thank you for your the memories.
Tim Scott And he still looked just as GOOD as he did 33 years ago!! He was so beautiful! The man did not age at all! 💜
Yep...pretty amazing how the quality is that good. wink wink

Probably one of the greatest performaces of all time.
Absolutely
You mean the gay performance..! The i guess you are right
He ain't no Ziggy Stardust - Enough said!
@@HaharuRecords He had more women than you had hot dinners. Closet case.
@@tiehign4187 Yeah youre right. He's a BILLION TIMES BETTER than ziggy.
No artist living today can perform like this
But before Prince was Little Richard. There are quite a few lyrics/music that LR did. Not just this one. Especially when he falls and looks dead. But I love how Prince did it too. RIP to both icons 🙏❤️
@@caroldaronch1974
thank you
Would be leaving on a stretcher even TRYING to.
Wow.....just pure Wow!! That was amazing. This man is a GOAT really that's not even good enough for what i just witness.. Rest in Heaven Prince
I start watching these Prince videos, then I look up and hours have gone by. I get totally captivated.
Jay Rod me too. I'm stuck for rest of day now thst I can cast to my tv. Love it
@@shirleylewis4164> forget to eat, forget to sleep....then its something that holds on to you...
Same!
Same here 🤗
I start reading emails news etc then Click onto Prince ... never ever get tired of watching this beautiful purple genius .
Prince was in a class by himself.💯💯
No, I'm pretty sure there are quite a lot of midgets still alive!
He was very special though!😁
Number 1. Just like Bowie
He had to be in peak physical condition to “explode” like that. I’ve. Never come close to seeing anyone dance and perform with that much passion and no n-stop energy. He probably had a work/ out gym in his house…. INCREDIBLE 🕺
JAMES BROWN
The sexiest, most talented being ever to grace us with his presence. The Eternal Prince!!
Genius in his prime ..26 years old..legend
I stand by my earlier statement and I will add this to it. There are 9 musicians on stage besides Prince. 2 organists, 1 saxophone player, 3 percussionsists/drummers and 3 guitarists. That's a huge band. All to create the sound he wanted. Name an artist today that carries that many on stage with them today. Now throw in this fact as well. 3 of those 9 are women. So far ahead of his time.
This man was EVERYTHING.
As many have said, he IS music. But…he IS sex. He IS energy. He IS playfulness. He IS depth. He IS angst. He IS beauty. He IS funk, and fashion and fun. He IS pleasure, and pain. He sings “most people in this world are born dead, but I was born alive.” So apropos. I hope he found his way back home. ❤
PERFECT Assessment.
Yeah,he was born alive other's death? What an arrogance..Well, guess who are still living, right, the one's who was born death!
@@Hoax6 You are an stupid person, right?
@@Hoax6 It was meant metaphorically. My guess. He was speaking of the soul of humans.
" “most people in this world are born dead, but I was born alive.” So apropos."
Apropos indeed. He needed his narcissism to give him the confidence to achieve what he did with his music and performance.
This performance is outstanding. I see the influence of James Brown and MJ here, but Prince certainly makes it his own.
Nothing like him anymore. And...that crowd had no clue what they where gazing upon. WAKE UP
FIRE!!!!! PURE GENIUS!!! SHOWMANSHIP!!!! MUSICIANSHIP!!!! Sadly lacking in the music of today....
Puts a lot of todays so called "artists" to shame.... watch and learn...WATCH AND LEARN!!!
been in love with this beautiful man since i was 13,, his passing devastated me,, im still in shock to this day,, i love,, adore and miss him like family,,i grew up to his music,, i am so hurt by this and sad i never got to see him live
becky martin I'm also crushed ...no one in Gods creation has ever affected me like him. Dear beautiful Prince, I will always love u....forever...please don't let the music stop...and thank u 4 it all. When he looks in the camera..omg..those eyes...makes me wet still...Prince 4ever.
The filming of this performance is far superior to the full length Syracuse show which is often foggy in parts. There must be a reel of this entire show in the vault. One can only hope it'll eventually see the light of day.
