Exposing Discovery Institute Part 5: Günter Bechly Again (Because He’s So Stupid)

- Remember when Gunter Bechly was tasked with the damage control regarding my devastating piece on Casey Luskin? The previous installment in this series dealt with the lies he told in there. But of course someone had to run the same damage control for my piece on Stephen Meyer, and guess who it was? Gunter again! So let's dive into his pathetic series of blog posts attempting to salvage Meyer's credibility and character assassinate yours truly, so that everyone can be perfectly aware of his ridiculous tactics. Isn't it fun to expose charlatans?

The end of the Bill Nye / Ken Ham debate sums up all these debates very well.
Bill Nye: If you can give me empirical evidence that god exists, I will change my view point and believe in god. Would you do the same?
Ken Ham: Nope, blind faith.
All of those Young Earth Creationists that are obsessed with this "Me and my Bible" mentality...
They all have **** apologetics.
I genuinely view them as terrible people. I genuinely think there isn't a good reason for religion to exist anymore.
The more I hear of creationists lies, the more I realize they argue like flat earthers.
Start with the conclusion, ignore any evidence against the conclusion, and claim victory.
There's a reason the venn diagram between the two is a smaller circle almost entirely inside another larger circle
Also known as 'pigeon chess'.
anti-covid vaxers also use very similar approach. My mom is one and she literally ignored 99% of evidence and just brings out sketchy random posts from unqualified people as definitive proof on how covid is not dangerous, covid vaccines are only harmful
The flat earthers learned from them after all. Or they would have if they could learn.
That's why Dave should make a "10 Challenges for Christians"

And on the eighth day, Professor dave evolved to debunk creationist nonsense
On the 9th day Professor edited the theory of evolution. Only thing that is evolving is the theory of evolution.
@@batboylivesDI drones spotted lmao
@@batboylivesScience is self-updating. The fact that the theory that describes evolution has been tweaked as new evidence is found is a strength. Funny how not a single piece of evidence has been found that casts evolution in doubt, and not a single piece of evidence has been found that supports the claim that an evil wizard created all life.
@@batboylives yeah that's how science works, new information can alter the conclusions made by a theory. unlike dogma.
This needs to be the top comment
Also, what's funny is that I'm a Catholic and I accept all of science. I believe in the bible and its stories, but I can admit that those beliefs are strictly irrational, and in an educational or scientific setting I set them aside. The idea that the DI not only insist on the vitality of a horse that's been beaten dead for generations, but try to force those beliefs upon others through schools or social media is ridiculous to me.
Edit: Grammar
"Don't forget the classic Hitler reference even though Christians seem to repeatedly forget that he was one of them."
Hitler also dabbled in quite a variety of pagan and cultic practices and believed a variety of wild things, it's hard to put an exact label on his religious beliefs but one thing is certain: even if he was faking the Christianity stuff (as many Christians say), he still was loudly promoting it because he knew it would help his movement.
Yep, hitler was a christian appealing to christianity in his raise to power. And the catholic church even dabbled with his organization in the midst of the holocaust, until they couldnt hide it anymore.

as a pretty disillusioned former christian i appreciate you taking the time to debunk people that use shallow arguments as a weapon to further their agendas. information is a weapon they’re not qualified to handle
I've never understood the fundamentalist Christian habit of denying evolution. I was raised very Catholic, and everything I heard growing up was that the church was fine with evolution and the Genesis narrative, because the Genesis narrative is symbolic, and if God made the world in 7 days, how long is a day for God?
I'm no longer religious either, but the idea that evolution and Christianity are fundamentally incompatible is just a false narrative
@@louisjov I think it would be important to note that, iirc, it was only in the like 1950s that the Catholic Church accepted evolution. And it took them like, 300 years to go "Hey, maybe trying to kill people like Galileo for disagreeing with what was in the bible by proposing heliocentrism was bad." And I would say that in this case, the qualifier Fundamentalist Christianity and Evolution are in fact, fundamentally incompatible.
@@louisjov It does seem to be a mainly US thing. I am religious, but at no point would I deny science and in my personal experiences with church and Sunday school, evolution (in fact any science) was never denied.
@@ResolverRose oh you're absolutely correct about the Catholics being late to the game on all that.
That being said, I give them credit for at least seeing the writing on the wall, and being like "yeah that's pretty overwhelming evidence"
You're correct in saying that hardcore bible fundamentalists make the reconciling of evolution and Christianity impossible, but when talking to people (especially Christians), we should always specify that it's only incompatible if you take the Bible word for word literally.
If we say other forms of Christianity are fundamentally incompatible (something I don't agree with), it just alienates actual Christians that are actually fine with the idea of evolution, and they start to only trust the pseudoscience coming from places like PragerU and the DI, which I'm sure I don't have to explain to you, quickly causes a whole host of other issues
@@paullange7052 that's good to hear, someone like you would probably be more effective in convincing other religious people that evolution is in fact actually true, since you share their faith.
Dave does a very thorough and factual debunk, but ultimately most people that disagree with him are simply not willing to listen to what he has to say, in part because of their perception of him, and in part because he often makes fun of Christianity as a whole

Thank you again, Prof Dave. These idiots will never stop lying because that is what they NEED to do in order to maintain their place in their cult.
and to earn some quatloos
I just found you, and when I saw “Discovery Institute,” I thought of my friend, the late Phil Johnson, who, I think, founded it? Not sure, but he was involved. Phil was a law professor at Berkeley, and a vociferous Christian. His goal was to create enough doubt and turmoil in actual science to “drive a wedge” that Jeebus could then slip through. He told me once that you can’t believe in (his version of) the Christian worldview and assent to the evolutionary record at the same time. It had to be one or the other. So, he and his institute went to work making shit up and calling it “Intelligent Design.” He also wanted to come up with other theories about HIV AIDS. Phil was a very kind soul, and very deluded. That’s easy to do when you surround yourself with evangelicals, because their entire psychological makeup depends on delusion.
The problem with evangelical Christians is their complete rejection of scholasticism and intellectuality in the faith.
Basically they *choose* to be idiots.
And any evangelical that doesn't choose to reject the MULTIPLE MELINIA OF CHRISTIAN SCHOLARSHIP just ends up reading some books and becomes a more traditional Protestant (Like me).
@kjmav10135
I hope the "very kind soul" part was a joke... Because one cannot have a "very kind soul" while actively and knowingly deceiving and deluding hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people. That is objectively incompatible with a "kind soul", and I would almost argue is patently evil.
Idk why but there's something addicting about these debunking videos. Keep up the good work Prof. Dave!!

Since when have Christians fundamentalists ever have a problem with lying? To them it comes as natural as breathing. And like another comment says it's all appearances

Hossjer et al. (2021) in Theoretical Biology on the "waiting-time problem" mentioned at 58:16 now has a disclaimer pinned to it that states: "The Journal of Theoretical Biology and its co-Chief Editors do not endorse in any way the ideology of nor reasoning behind the concept of intelligent design. Since the publication of the paper it has now become evident that the authors are connected to a creationist group (although their addresses are given on the paper as departments in bona fide universities). We were unaware of this fact while the paper was being reviewed. Moreover, the keywords ‘‘intelligent design” were added by the authors after the review process during the proofing stage and we were unaware of this action by the authors. We have removed these from the online version of this paper. We believe that intelligent design is not in any way a suitable topic for the Journal of Theoretical Biology."

My take on Bechley is that he's not stupid: he's just a blatant liar. Or, as you could say of most creationists: his stupidity is a choice. He wants to believe his nonsense is true, regardless of whether it holds up (which it obviously doesn't). That's got to be a stressful way to live.
He knows pretty much where and why he lies. This is why Bechly sometimes at least tries to be careful in how to formulate sentences, especially to put the dumb audience in a complete false sense of security. The people are sinister by intent.
They let their sentences very vague sometimes so that old and young earth creationists can both identify with their authoritative circus performance.
Quotemines to say the opposite of the texts by cutting very carefully out the essential part is direct proof of the mean spirited nature. IT is like I would quotemine the bible with "...there is no God" as I would claim the bible would support atheism by cutting out "the fool says..." in front of the quotation.
