    I watched this every morning before school in 1995. I was 12.
    I really liked this show.
    It was powerful watching everyone die in season one finale.
    Then the show creators top that in season two by having max essentially fail, but goes back in time to redo it all again but properly this time, correcting his missteps.
    Both season's endings were, for the times, very thought provoking and original for being cartoons.
    I don't remember, maybe it was KSTW channel 11, but I watched Conan the Adventurer, Mighty Max, Sailor Moon, and other obscure cartoons before school in 95-98

    I loved this show (and the toys) so much that I would wake up at 5 or 6am on the weekend as a kid to watch it because that's the only time it was ever on.

    This was a pretty dark and well written show for something that was made to sell toys.

    I actually remember watching episodes of this every now and then back in the 90's, but never watched the entire series.
    I also remember finding this again few years ago and the massive mental whiplash I had by getting those memories brought back to the front at lightning speed.

    Are there any other shows like this that people can name of the top of their head that were popular and widely talked about by kids back in the day but no one remembers now (or has been completely forgotten)? To me Mighty Max is the best example from the mid-1990s, any others?

    Such a good show. I remember having that snake set when I was a kid. If you're looking for obscure, you should check out Streethawk. I feel like I'm the only person that remembers that show.

    Oh yeah, I DEFINITELY remember Mighty Max! I actually remembered seeing the commercials featuring the playsets on TV before the cartoon adaptation itself officially aired a year later, of course, I also watched the commercials that showed animations, and voices from the show of the playsets. I did in fact own one of these sets as a toddler in the early 90's, probably even before the TV series (though I don't remember which one it was, nor do I remember how much of the MM playsets I owned back then. I think it was either Temple Of Venom, or that blue skull one (I don't know what it's called), however, it might've been a different set entirely). I even remembered taking one of the sets with me to preschool, it was awesome! So it's even more awesome to find out that the same dudes who made the previous shows, DuckTales, TaleSpin, Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, and Xiaolin Showdown also created Mighty Max (1993), and out of all of them, I think this one was the best! Not only was it a great series based on a popular toyline from the UK, it was also a great series based on a popular toyline from the early 1990's that actually got a complete ending! Loveable, and complex characters, zany plotline, great humor, half of the Animaniacs crew playing the roles along with other big names, rockin' soundtrack, tension, and drama, and so many others! It's especially cool that several of the playsets appeared in the cartoon too! I don't know how much of this show I've watched back then, but I do remember certain scenes, and enjoying it quite a bit. It is a bit strange that Max doesn't have a last name, though it was probably due to it not being a necessity for the series, and Max's mom doesn't have a name herself especially since she does help her son out (at least she's one hot, archeologist milf, 'wolf whistles'), though her bondage with Max was still fun. I still think Rob Paulsen played Max overall really good even if he didn't do a decent job of hiding his old voice in a 12-year old boy, and would probably even consider it one of his best performances! Tim Curry as Skullmaster was spot on, he NAILED being an evil, evil antagonist! I'm so glad that Mighty Max didn't get butchered thanks to parent complaints so it could properly finish its story as I never got scared either despite being around 3, or 4 when watching the show for the first time! It is a shame that outside of a few episodes on VHS tapes, Mighty Max has never received any other physical media copies, nor is it available on any digital streaming services, but if I can ever find it, I will definitely check out this amazing, forgotten animated TV adaptation from an equally amazing, forgotten toyline as not only would I most likely rank it as my favorite 90's cartoon, I think I probably would even rank it as one of my favorite cartoons of all time! Love the recreation you made of the end of the opening with your silhouette making the same pose as Max on the logo with that epic end music! Another excellent Forgotten Television review, Archer! Keep up the amazing work! HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY, MIGHTY MAX!!!

    Yeah, I definitely remember Mighty Max! ...At least in terms of the toys, I think I've actually a handful of them back in the day (not sure how many, though, it was a really long time ago after all). I can't say I've ever seen much of the show the toys were based on, but after watching this episode of FTV, I'm definitely gonna try, and give it watch someday, and maybe even attempt to track down the toys in inevitable future!

    This is probably one of the best examples of a show that was popular and "talked-about" when it was on but is basically forgotten today. Is its relative obscurity part of IP rights issues? (Otherwise you'd think it would be marketed for a revival like other series).
    For that matter, I wonder if rights issues is preventing shows that evoke '90s nostalgia (like Schooled) from referencing Power Rangers and bringing the actors in for cameos, otherwise ratings for those shows would probably get a bounce.

    • @rangerreview1780
      @rangerreview1780  Před rokem

      Some shows just don't last the test of time. I don't think it's any rights issues. I wouldn't be surprised we would see a bad live action movie of this. Once every popular product has been thrown in the trash.
