HOW TO INTRODUCE THE PRONG COLLAR!! NOT WHAT YOU THINK!!

  • In this video I demonstrate my favorite way of introducing the Prong Collar to my dog. This will be a very important tool in our training journey, so I make sure it is introduced in a way that creates motivation and trust! An appropriate age to introduce the collar is this way can greatly vary. Regardless, the bottom line should be POSITIVE ASSOCIATION with any training equipment being introduced! In my case, this pup was about 5-6 months old when I introduced the prong collar to him.
    I am training the prong collar to ACTIVATE the dog and actually be an ON switch. This means that when the dog feels pressure from the collar, they don't think "uh oh", but rather it propels them into the asked behavior with enthusiasm! THE DOG HAVING THE ABILITY TO WORK/ THINK THROUGH PRESSURE IS A VERY IMPORTANT PIECE TO A LARGER PUZZLE!!
    This method will produce a dog who works with more enthusiasm and reliability BECAUSE of the Prong Collar training!!
    DISCLAIMER: This training tool is my personal preference. I do NOT expect everybody to share the same opinion as me and that is totally fine! I have many trainer friends who are all positive and I respect them and their methods very much. Not everyone needs to use this collar to achieve training results!

    Apologies for the bad audio at times!! We will continue to improve our equipment to prevent this in the future!

    Fantastic how you introduce the 'prong' collar, positive association; food reward. And as you frequently emphasize, the dog is receiving mental exercise.

    • @AndyKrueger
      @AndyKrueger  Před rokem

      Often times the prong is implemented out of frustration or as a ‘last resort’. Then the dog is immediately punished for a behavior they don’t even know. One of the main reasons this tool is demonized.

    It's refreshing to have content like this, that doesn't require an hour of pandering caution's to the ignorant and theoretical monologues. This is all you need on this topic to start successfully.
    The only thing I think was missing was a quick comment to send pet owners in the right direction if they decide to use this method (as it's optimal), because you acknowledged them. Maybe either an alternative channel (potential cross pollination opportunity?), or mentioning an alternative solution without going into explanation, or a future video targeting the problem (wink wink nudge nudge, but I understand that might not be something you are interested in).

      I don’t love the word ‘fix’. It Implies there is a problem. No problem, dog needs to be taught and motivated how to walk more calmly. I’d develop high food drive and start from there. Reward every check in and everytime the dog is not pulling. This is step 1. Also the situations the dog is put in depending on their skills is everything! You’ve likely tried to progress to much too fast and set the dog up for failure. Scale back and build up to that 👍🏻

    Please upload a step by step video on how to do ring level training

      It wouldn’t be possible to teach complete ring training on CZcams, but I will continue to make videos and do the best I can 👍🏻
      Thanks for watching

    I swear when I put the prong collar on my dog he is less stressed. I don't have to force him to calm down. He walks calm and is less aggressive. He saw a cat today and for the first time wasn't trying to go after it without me choking him.

    How old must the dog be to introduce the prong collar??

    • @AndyKrueger
      @AndyKrueger  Před 2 lety

      No general number
      Whenever the dog is ready 🙏🏼
      Sometimes it could be 5-6 months old, sometimes closer to 9-12 months 👍🏻

    Is there a collar that injects a sedative to the dog's neck, that's all mine needs. But I do respect your style.

      @@AndyKrueger Great vos over here a Breeder wouldn't sell you one of their pups if you use these methods . I've owned Belgians for most of my life...the one thing that's special about a Belgian ...the more you interact the more they learn I've watched your training videos and thoroughly enjoy and find them very smart 👍...prong collars on a Mal it's not necessary as you know they're very smart and where you might use this without inflicting to much pain ..you know some idiot watching this will do serious harm...anyone out there using this method .. really shouldn't own a Belgian ...as clearly you don't understand the breed .

    How early would you introduce a prong or e-collar to your dog?

    • @AndyKrueger
      @AndyKrueger  Před rokem

      You cannot put a number on this. The prong is a FINISHING tool. So whenever the dog is ready and knows all commands thoroughly 👍🏻
